This past weekend, Mr. Kris and his best friend (who lives above us) went camping. Jack and I were out and about on Saturday, but on Sunday we stayed in and worked on cleaning his room. There was some bad weather coming through and honestly we had no reason to go out in it. Same for Monday. Around 2pm Monday, I saw through the window that Mr. Kris was home and was piling up bags to carry inside. So I went out into the building foyer to open the front door, and found it propped open. I also found a pile of groceries, including a pack of water and a gallon of milk, just sitting next to the stairs, right in the middle of the landing.
I thought the door had been propped open by someone carrying things in from the parking lot. Mr. Kris came up and I asked if any of it was his (and had really hoped it was, we were low on milk, LOL) but he said no. We went inside and didn't think anything of it.
Until around 7pm, when Mr. Kris went to take the trash out. And all the groceries were still sitting there.
So I started knocking on neighbor's doors, and the woman in 2D answered and said they had been there since Sunday. She said that she thought she heard someone bring them in, and when she took her dog out they were all piled against the door of 2B. Since they were moved away from the door, they clearly weren't for there. The other neighbor also didn't know anything about it, but did say the items were there for at least 24 hours.
The bags were from Food Lion, but there wasn't a single identifying mark on the bags - no name or address. I assume they were delivered by Instacart or something like that. I took a picture and posted it on our community page but didn't get a single comment.
So I took it upon myself to get a trash bag and throw away the perishables - and there were a LOT. This had to be at least $100 of groceries. There was a family sized package of chicken wings, a whole chuck roast, andouille sausage, breakfast sausage, turkey burgers, bacon, sour cream, cheese, butter, eggs (EGGS!!!!!), and what was originally frozen broccoli. All in the trash. There were also two large containers of blueberries and the most beautiful strawberries I've ever seen. They were sitting on top of the breakfast sausage so I was debating whether to throw them away. There were also instant potatoes, baking potatoes, baby potatoes (this person liked potatoes!), broth, macaroni, and a gigantic tub of iced tea mix. I took the milk inside to dump down the sink before tossing it in the dumpster, and then came out to finish throwing stuff away.
And the strawberries, blueberries, and bottles of water were gone. The woman in 2D, who let everything sit there for well over 24 hours and did diddly squat, jumped on it and took those items as soon as I went to dump the milk. Now, I didn't really need the water or the fruit but it would have been nice if she'd walked out and said "hey I know you're actually doing something about this instead of just letting raw meat rot in our hallway, but do you mind if I take x,y,z?" It just annoyed me. Hope she enjoys her salmonella strawberries.
I took the rest of the stuff inside, my thought was if someone on the community group recognized the order I could at least give them the nonperishable items. But with no replies I guess I now have some extra groceries. One thing in it was a can of Slap Ya Mama Cajun seasoning, which I was actually thinking about buying just last week at the store. I used it last night, it's pretty good.
Sorry for whoever ordered that and didn't get it, I hope you got a full refund!!!!
