Therefore, I have been trying Trader Joe’s frozen pizzas. 😳 My favorite one so far is TJ’s Parlano pizza. It’s either $5.49 or $5.99. I forget which one because all of their frozen pizzas are in that price range.

Both TJ's and Aldi have some darn good frozen pizza. Do I love any of them as much as I love a pie from one of our local non-chain pizzerias? No. But still, they're pretty tasty.

When we do get a “real” pizza from the mom and pop shop down the street, we get a plain pie and add our own toppings. If we ordered a pie with two toppings, it would be $33 or more, depending on the toppings.

I'd never thought to get a plain cheese pizza and add toppings--that's brilliant! Two Sundays ago, I was going to treat myself to a pizza from one of the better places around here but then of course we had Snowmageddon. So instead I bought a couple pre-made crusts and made my own pizza. That Sunday, I made a simple pepperoni pizza with lots and lots of cheese (I actually ran out of traditional pizza cheese and had to finish off the pie with cheddar cheese but it was actually pretty good). Last night, I browned up some beef, added taco seasoning and made a taco pizza with refried beans, the beef, a hefty drizzle of taco sauce, cheddar cheese and then lettuce, tomato and sour cream when it came out of the oven. It was also pretty good. I would try a different crust though; I bought Mama Mary's original pre-made crusts and thought they were too bland and "dough-y" tasting.

I keep seeing articles about restaurants complaining about “disturbing customer behavior” which includes not coming as frequently, not coming at all, ordering fewer things or cheaper things. They suggest all kinds of possible reasons but never say it’s because their prices are too high. I think restaurants got spoiled by the way we treated them during the pandemic because we wanted them to survive. That couldn’t go on forever. Their customers are struggling too.

Yes, yes, YES! Add to that restaurants not paying their help enough and then expecting customers to tip generously and now you're paying even more for that overpriced meal. Or maybe it's not overpriced--maybe it's just the cost of ingredients going up--but it's still more than many people want to, or can afford to, pay.

ETA that I would not pay $18 for 4 cookies.

In the last couple years, I've taken to stopping in once a month or so at a local coffeehouse/bakery in town and getting a single chocolate chip cookie. They're also "large"--about the size of Crumbl cookies--and only slightly less expensive but the quality is soooo much better than Crumbl. I like Crumbl cookies (I like almost all cookies <g>) but I think they taste a little...cheap. Which is ironic considering how much they cost.
