one of Mom's very Southern relatives and saw people doing just this. His family is more "ignore the body as much as possible". To the best of my knowledge, Mom never took any pictures of herself with the deceased but I do recall her being very, uh, handsy with the bodies, patting faces, kissing cold cheeks and foreheads, etc.
