a great option. Meanwhile, Pepsi’s CEO encourages struggling Gen Zers to make meals out of chips and pretzels.

First, chips, pretzels and most of Kellogg’s cereals are not healthy food. Second, none of them are cheap food anymore as boxes/bags have gotten smaller and smaller at the same time that prices have gotten higher and higher.

These Big Food executives might as well be saying: “Let them eat cake”.

Many people have started buying store brands instead of big national brands like Pepsi and Kellogg’s. I buy Diet Coke when — and only when — it is on sale. When I was in FL, 2- liter bottles of Diet Coke were almost $4 each at Publix! There was no sale. I bought Publix Diet Cola. It was fine. I think stores like Trader Joe’s have destigmatized store brands and people are buying them in traditional style grocery stores too now.

I know that there are variables that make food prices fluctuate. For example, weather affects crops so it impacts the price of avocados. But how is it that Cheerios and TJ’s Joe’s Ohs have such a huge price difference? They certainly come from the same crops and may even be the exact same thing. Plenty of factories make the exact same product for multiple companies/brands. Personally, I think Big Food wants to hang on to the pandemic era excuses for outrageous food prices. Newsflash to Pepsi and Kellogg’s CEOs: Once you lose those customers to store brands, many are never coming back to Doritos and Pepsi.

Many people are struggling with food insecurity. It is, to say the least, not helpful to tell them to eat chips and cereal for dinner.
