I generally balk at paying to shop somewhere, and even though I *do* have a pretty decent amount of space, I generally don't like to buy things in bulk, so the only time I've ever had a Costco membership was when we got a free year's membership through work 15 years ago or so. They didn't have gas back then...many family members swear the 25 cents off every gallon of gas pays their membership fee but I've driven past the lone Costco in our area and seen the gas lines stretch 8-9 cars deep at each pump and thought "no thanks".
