my mom’s idea to spell it differently not something I did myself to be different. It may be the British spelling because the British playwright Caryl Churchill spells it that way. Coincidentally, Churchill’s middle name is Lesley which is the way my mom spelled my sister’s name rather than the more common Leslie. I’m absolutely positive that Mom never even heard of Caryl Churchill, who has written some very good plays. Mom did love all things British though. So yeah, I’m Caryl not Carol. Not Carly (which I get called a lot) and not Caryn. Caryl.
