communication (email, text, voicemail) sound very legit. Very smart people are getting fooled. I almost got scammed out of $20,000 recently by a scammer posing as my bank (Chase). In my case, it was a phone call. Luckily, I shut that call down and went to my bank branch where the manager and other staff know me and I trust them. There they could verify that nothing the scammer told me was true. I can’t even remember the details. The scammer just caught me in a particularly distracted vulnerable moment. It was a very traumatic close call.
Be careful. Some of these scammers have learned how to look very legit. Always check independently with the company involved, not through any number the scammer has provided. They have learned to use legit telephone numbers in their scams.
