that was a hallmark of my childhood - random things my mother thought were "just asking for trouble" so they were not allowed.
My mom did the same! Though to be fair, my older sister managed to get into a LOT of trouble. That worked both for and against me; "for" me because I could do things that were mildly "bad" and Mom didn't much care because "You know what your sister did at your age?"* and "against" because my sister pretty much opened Mom's eyes to the kinds of trouble you could get in doing seemingly innocuous things.
* no, I did NOT know what my sister did at my age. My folks weren't about to give me a blueprint for being a wild child <g>. And TBH, Mom herself didn't know about all the things Sis did in her wild child phase. She probably found out about 70% of them, she heard later from Sis about maybe another 20% of my sister's misspent youth and then there was the 10% or so Sis vowed to NEVER tell Mom (or anybody) about.
