Sometime in the early 80s, we were having dinner with a cousin and my brother and I obliquely mentioned it. Mom was like OMG don't talk about it!

Cousin D said, oh Alex, everyone knows and NO ONE CARES. They were your parents, they raised you, with love, together, no need to be embarrassed by it!

Yeah, so I think she ultimately got to the point where it was just OK, as times changed.
