I don't have a big preference but I will try to get the dishes in the dishwasher first.

If no dishwasher, I'd rather just wash the dish right away because doing the dishes for one meal (plate, cup, maybe a bowl) feels more manageable than a big sink of them. And doing them right away means there's less chance of food to cake onto them. By the time that happens, you need to soak the dishes before washing.
