the gross and horrifying scene near the beginning of Ep 1 was more drawn out in the book, as was the ship crew's captivity. I'm fine with that. I left the room for that scene that I won't even talk about. It was thankfully quite short.
There was a whole thing in the book about John taking a hot bath for the first time, and then loving it so much he had to have one all the time. They whittled that down to him bathing in a hot spring (I wondered....did he know that one was safe? Did someone tell him that offscreen? You don't just jump into a hot spring lol, they can actually kill you)
I read the book 40 years ago, however, so my memory is fuzzy.
