major storms were looming on both ends (NY and FL). Local car service picked us up at 4:30am and we were at JFK airport at 5:00am. Our driver was awesome and helpful. It was the most mellow I’ve ever seen JFK, which is usually a zoo. And I’ve flown out on early flights plenty of times before. So it wasn’t just the time. We zoomed through security, our 7am flight left on time. I had friendly seat mates and flight attendants and a nice off-duty pilot who was sitting right behind me and helped me get my heavy carryon into and out of the overhead. We were in Orlando airport at 9:40am. Orlando airport was equally mellow as JFK and MCO is also usually a zoo. We called an Uber, it came in less than 5 minutes, the driver was a really nice guy from the UK and we talked during the whole drive. We were at the house at 11am. All was well. No squatters had broken in during the last 6 months when the houses has been empty. Well, unoccupied is more accurate than empty. There is a lot of stuff in the house.
And then it started pouring in NYC around noon and we had severe thunderstorms and a tornado watch in FL during the late afternoon. And we dodged all that bad weather. It was the polar opposite of our July trip when our flight got cancelled and we got stranded at the airport for 19 hours and they moved us from a cancelled flight out of JFK to a late flight out of Westchester and we landed at MCO at 3am and had to wait until 5am for ground transportation. The July trip was like being on The Amazing Race with everything going wrong. This trip was comparatively very Zen. I’m taking it as a good sign from the universe.
