because I don't really have a genre I love* but also, I read to escape the world, not wallow in its various miseries. There's very few "deep" books out there that don't tackle subjects I have no interest in reading about. Sadly, I'm not big on the romance genre either. Romance novels would probably be the best chance for light-hearted escapism.
* The closest I come to having a genre would be books about quirky small towns and the quirky people that inhabit them. Those usually make me smile, and any trouble those quirky small towns have are usually not all that serious and are easily dealt with once the quirky townspeople band together and tackle the not too serious problem.
