the dinner rotation (aside from, well, not having mac and cheese for dinner): I have several mac and cheese recipes I love and used with some frequency. Altice's mom's recipe was my go-to, but I had a stovetop recipe that uses goat cheese (love me some goat cheese) and my sister's recipe, which has added onions. The thing I like about this recipe is how the seasoning gives it an extra kick. No whining about bland mac and cheese when you make this version!
I was only going to bring mashed potatoes and an appetizer (bacon wrapped cocktail weenies with brown sugar glaze) to our friends Christmas open house/dinner. But now I am adding this mac and cheese to the list!
Yay! Something I plan on making for Dad and me later this week...OK, probably just me...is bacon wrapped water chestnuts (
) I haven't had these in AGES. They always remind me of Mom; shortly after someone gave me the recipe, I started making them for New Year's Eve and other celebrations, and Mom absolutely loved them. There are SO many holiday dishes* Mom made that I simply don't have the time (or frankly, the patience) to make this year...I want *something* that's sort of traditional.
* such as spiced fruit salad, "Aunt Peg's" 5 bean casserole and almond puff
Thank you and I hope you and your dad (Wahoo Daddy as Esther always called him) have a very merry Christmas! 🎄
I love "Wahoo Daddy" (and still miss Esther). Happy ALL the holidays to you, my dear!
