✊ In my experience, Americans have been notoriously bad at boycotts and one-day strikes. So I have my doubts about whether enough people will participate to be effective.
✊ I do not think it is fair for companies who are refusing to abandon their DEI programs to be lumped in with companies who are complying with the MAGA regime’s anti-DEI edict. Costco is one example of a company that has good labor practices and is maintaining their DEI practices (see my post slightly below). In fact, I think customers/the public should be loudly supporting and rewarding the companies who refuse to comply.
✊ That said, I can and will easily avoid shopping on Friday. Instead, I will swim at my YMCA here in Brooklyn, which has a very diverse staff and membership and is celebrating Black History Month. Then I will go drink some margaritas and eat some food in my favorite family-owned Mexican restaurant where the customers are usually 90% from our hardworking Mexican immigrant community.
✊ Although I have my doubts about how effective this one-day boycott will be, I am happy to see some leadership step up and try to spark some grassroots action. We need more leaders to step up and start leading the resistance to this disgusting hateful fascist regime. We need to start building that resistance now because Americans are notoriously bad at voting in midterms.
