Although it's finally spring in Port Charles, it was still a sad day today, as Michael learned his fate--and it wasn't pretty. The proverbial lightbulb clicked on over Tracy's head and sorry to say that Shirley, the terminal cancer patient who has grown close to Liz recently is starting to slip away!
Let's start off easy so we can get to the really sad stuff. Tracy and Helena have yet another confrontation and Tracy finally shows why she's one of the few females with brains in Port Charles.
She goes over to GH and runs into the other female in this town with brains: Epiphany. Tracy demands that Epiphany hook her up with the Lab Assistant who ran Liz's paternity tests, and Epiphany tells her it's not gonna happen!
After Epiphany lets Tracy shoot herself in the foot, after she spouts that she's a Quartermaine, yada, yada, Epiphany tells her that no, she's not going to see him, because HE DIED!!! Hellooooo????
Turns out that this Lab Asst (Lawrence Bailey was his name) just loooved to swim laps before work--and last week, he slipped getting out of the pool and hit his head, killing him instantly!
The lightbulb goes on over Tracy's head and she figures out that Helena had him killed so he wouldn't spill the beans on her scheme! I smell a new story line coming on...
On to more death: Shirley, the terminal cancer patient, to be exact. Michael Learned has done a great job with this character and we've grown to love Shirley and her jewelry.
Liz has also grown close to her and is visiting her new friend in the hospital; telling her that she thinks there's now a chance that she and Lucky can get back together. (Poor, misguided Liz...) I do think that Shirley is starting to fade out and it's going to hit Liz like a ton of bricks when it happens...
OK, now for the REALLY sad part. Judge Carroll is ready to pass sentance on Michael, and everyone, from Dante on down, thinks that it's going to be a suspended one.
Everyone's in the courtroom, but Morgan, Mollie and Christina are waiting outside to suprise him.
Johnny makes a victim impact statement, and even says that Michael is a hero for protecting Carly and his sister that night and Sonny is the one who is responsible.
Judge Carroll speaks after that. He pronounces Michael guilty of Involuntary Manslaughter and says the sentance is 5 to 20 years--but he's going to be lenient, in lieu of the circumstances.
Then he drops the bomb: sentencing Michael to 5 years in Pentonville, with the chance for Parole in 2!!
He adds that in lieu of the rotten guidance he's received from the adults in his life, he hopes he never comes home once he's released.
Both Dante and Sonny beg Judge Carroll to reconsider, but his mind is made up. Sonny even offers himself in Michael's place, but Michael is taken into custody.
Morgan is crushed when he sees Michael outside of the courtroom and learns that he's going to prison!! Carly is devastated and Jax, Olivia and Johnny are just sitting there in shock.
I know that the sparks are going to fly on Monday. Stay tuned!
