General Hospital Update for Wednesday, 21-Oct-2009

As we fast approach sweeps week, Claudia’s end looms near. How will she go out, as a lion or as a lam? The walls are closing in, but who will get to her first?
*Sonny and Claudia take an unscheduled trip to Puerto Rico to show the other families who has the real power in the Zacchara/Corinthos organization. Claudia plays the dutiful mob wife vowing to stay at Sonny’s side and provide a united front of power against Anthony. Sonny seems to finally accept that perhaps Claudia is the perfect match for him, although I suspect some of that endorsement is in part due to the fact that Claudia was sporting a barely-there bikini. I assume the purpose of these scenes were to show us Sonny’s ruthless and powerful side, but they left me wondering…what exactly is Sonny’s business that requires all this chest beating in the tropics? In the 20 something years I’ve been watching General Hospital, I’ve never quite been able to figure that out. Anywhoo, Claudia finally gets dressed and they head over to the casino to meet with “smarmy nameless casino owner”. Sonny, once again, stands up for Claudia; not just his wife but an equal partner in the Z-C organization. Claudia has finally been acknowledged as the mob power player she has craved, but will this cause her ultimate demise?
*Jason and Sam have Spinelli transfer all of Devlin’s files to the conference room so they can see if he left hidden evidence in closed patient charts. Ok, at first I assumed that when Spinelli was doing this, it must have been because the files were now archived on a mainframe somewhere, but no. When Jason and Sam arrive at the conference room, they find Robin and Patrick scouring large 3 ring binders. Man, the storage facility at GH must be enormous if they keep all inactive patient files in those huge blue binders. Not to mention, wouldn’t the records person who was tasked with pulling all these files from a dead Doctor be the slightest bit suspicious as to why they were pulled and then delivered to an empty conference room??? Moving on… the super-sleuths dig in and try to find Devlin’s connection to Claudia. Robin, who could use a refresher course on the meaning of covert, then decides to spill the beans to Alexis by telling her that they are searching Devlin’s old files.
*Dante meets Ronnie in an alley to deliver some paperwork that he lifted from Sonny’s desk. Ronnie and Dante differ on whether Sonny should be taken “dead or alive”. Ronnie questions Dante’s growing loyalty to Sonny. But seriously, who could ever take Ronnie seriously in that suit with the blue silk hanky in the pocket. That man is just a walking cliché. I’m just waiting for him to break out with a “batta boom batta bing” at any moment. While in the alley, Dante spots a tag on the wall. It rings familiar to him and he enlists Spinelli’s cyberskills to track down additional info. In a rare moment Spinelli comes up dry, but Dante does realize that it’s through Spinelli and his computer prowess that Sonny is moving his money in and out of the country. Again I ask…MONEY FROM WHAT??
Other happenings:
*Carly hates green vegetables…yeah, we get it already. I mean I know it’s difficult to find material for Carly when she’s pregnant and can’t be off interfering in Jason’s life or throwing herself at Sonny in the back of a limo, but enough about her daily menu, we get it.
*Michael has a flashback of Jerry at his bedside.
*Max and Diane finally resurface. They argue in the halls of GH over sausage and quiche. Man I’ve missed them!
