General Hospital Update for Tuesday, 13-Oct-2009

The revolving door of Port Charles.

In recent years, there have been so many character and story line “false starts” that when the newest crop of Port Charlsians arrived, I guess part of me was determined not to get attached. The Cooper-Logan and whole Iraq war veteran story line was scrapped before it ever really started. Not to mention Logan-Scotty storyline that if you blinked, you would have missed. Gone are the student nurses, Layla and Nadine. They never reached fan favorite status, and the Nadine/Nicholas pairing never really caught on. Kate Howard, who at first was on the canvas daily, has suddenly disappeared along with Diane. Poor Max was hit by a car a month ago, and he was not been seen or heard from since. Does Sonny not wonder where his number one body guard is. No hospital visit, no flowers, no cards?

We were suddenly supposed to embrace an army of new faces. Ethan, Johnny, Claudia, Olivia, Dante and a SORAS Michael, Morgan, Molly and Kristina. At first, I was determined not to get emotionally invested. However, over the last few months, the performances have been so wonderfully complicated and the emotions so palpable, that yes, I have been happily sucked into the lives of these new characters. I love Dante (and not just because he’s Canadian!), but because the presence of his character opens up a myriad of possible story lines. Brandon Barash consistently delivers day after day. For those of you who follow me on twitter, you’ll also know that yes, he does read fan tweets!

But onto the day’s business…..

Olivia calls Jax to the waterfront mistakenly believing that he will share in her relief that Dante has been taken off the Corinthos investigation. We begin to see for the first time, the depths of Jax’s hatred for Sonny and his own self-interested desire for Sonny to go down at all costs. Once alone Jax arranges a meeting with the Governor to intervene for his own selfish ends.

Engaged in a private moment, Jason and Sam are interrupted by Molly. Molly pushes them to be open and discuss their relationship. Once alone, Sam and Jason do begin to open up to each other but are cut short by a visit from Alexis. Alexis begins to throw stones from her glass house and criticizes Sam’s choice in men. Alexis requests that she leave the parenting of Kristina and Molly to their mother.

Kristina calls Keifer on the creepy pink phone and they arrange a meet. Keifer takes this as a green light and books a room for the night. When Kristina informs him of the waiting period for her birth control pills, he presses her to trust him. He wants to have sex tonight.

Luke and Ethan walk into Tracy’s “Twilight Zone” Casino. Bustling with paying gamers, Luke is introduced to ‘Link’ and Ethan meets ‘Evan’. This bizarre and discombobulated scene allows Luke to plant one on Tracy in an effort to win back her good graces.

After driving Carly to the hospital Johnny and Coleman stay at her side to try their hands at being a Doula. These scenes provide some mid-week comic relief. Jax finally arrives and they are informed that Carly may have to undergo a c-section as early as that evening.

Claudia continues her pursuit of Corinthos sperm and keeps the pressure on Dante to sleep with her. Dante manages to temporarily escape her clutches as he packs to move out of Sonny’s house. Sonny pays Dante a visit and counsels him on the perils of Mob life when it’s mixed with marriage and children. Sonny reveals the private details of Claudia’s “maybe” pregnancy and the resolve that if she is not currently pregnant, there will be no more Corinthos offspring.

The noose tightens on Claudia when Jason tells her that Ian Devlin kept voice recordings of all his business dealing, including the one where Claudia ordered the hit on Sonny.
