At the bar in Atlantic City…
Elizabeth is playing hard-ass motorcycle chick trying to convince the guy from the Thunderbirds to fess up where Luke is. He isn’t buying it and thinks she is with Lucky and trying to scam him. Lucky says there IS a scam and it’s by this woman. Elizabeth and Lucky start their scam (sorry, but the dude is right!) trying to convince him that Elizabeth is Luke’s wife who cheated on him and robbed him. Luke ran off and is upset because of said wife. Lucky is upset as Luke’s son (at least that part is true) because this woman only married Luke for the money and then took off with another man. Elizabeth claims she is going to get her man back and needs their help in finding him. Some chick Trixie gets involved, who seemed to know Luke pretty well, but she doesn’t buy that Elizabeth is Luke’s wife either. She says Elizabeth doesn’t seem like the type to be put on a pedestal like Luke’s wife. But, when Trixie asks her name and Elizabeth smartly replies, “Laura,” that’s the selling point there and suddenly she seems to buy all the crap Elizabeth and Lucky are spewing. She tells “Laura” that Luke is headed south, to Perkinsville.
At Kelly’s…
Courtney rushes in and frantically gets to work. She’s late and apologizes to Bobbie. She tries to make up for her tardiness by grabbing everyone’s dirty plates quickly. Bobbie is concerned and wonders why Courtney seems shaken up. She admits the stalker came after her last night, but tells Bobbie she doesn’t want to get into it. As she grabs a bunch of dishes and heads into the kitchen, the jarred young lady spills them all and ‘smash,’ they break. Bobbie comes running and tries to reassure Courtney that the stalker will be taken care of and tells Courtney that it’s perfectly acceptable to be acting a little crazy. Courtney laments how her life has gone in the last year and wonders how she got there. Bobbie says she is being hard on herself and she should realize working in the strip club was something she did for the man she loves. Finally, Courtney admits she’s shaken up because she just kissed another man! Bobbie makes excuses for Courtney kissing another man and when Courtney says she needs to admit the whole thing to AJ, Bobbie quickly nips that in the bud. “Never relieve your own conscience at the expense of someone you love,” Bobbie advises, surely speaking from YEARS of experience. Courtney admits she would never leave AJ and is not even sure why she kissed this other man, that she has no feelings for him, only thinks of him as a friend. Bobbie says to make sure that she lets this other man know her feelings of friendship and then steer clear of him. Courtney reasserts her commitment to AJ and vows to take Bobbie’s advice. When she comes out of the kitchen, Coleman is sitting at the counter wearing shades. He is there to show her the bruises he got courtesy of Jason, “her boyfriend” as he calls him. She tells him to leave her alone and leave Jason alone. Courtney tells him if he presses charges against Jason, she will press charges against him for blackmailing her into stripping. Before leaving, he tells her she is pathetic. She yells after him to leave Jason alone!
At the hospital…
Ned tells Alexis that most proposals come with declarations of love, so does she love him? “Have you fallen in love with me again?” he asks. Boosting his ego incredibly, Alexis tells him it isn’t that simple. Ned is none-too-thrilled with that response and doesn’t seem happy to be used by her for political reasons. He starts to leave, but Alexis asks him to stay so they can discuss it. Ned is angry and says he refuses to marry someone else who doesn’t love him; he’s gone down that road before. He will not get married for a political façade! Alexis tries to tell Ned why she proposed to him but, in typical Alexis fashion, she can’t seem to form the right words and Ned doesn’t want to stick around to hear it. He storms out. Alexis is alone and frustrated. She turns on the television and remarkably, finds a show with Ned on! It is like Masterpiece Theater and he is telling the story of the heroine Alexis and the consequences of the rebuff to her proposal. Then we launch into full dream/fantasy sequence. Alexis is a street urchin, carrying her baby daughter and begging for food. Who should she come across but Sir Ned Ashton with his lovely wife? He ignores her at first but then recognizes her and introduces her to his new wife. The wife recalls who Alexis is- the woman who proposed but could not declare her affections to him!. The poor, foolish woman. Ned offers a shilling. As he walks off with his wife, Ned whispers that poor Alexis’ whole life could have been different had she only been able to say, “I love you.” Fantasy sequence ends with Alexis sad, sunken down in her bed. She pulls out a legal pad and starts penning a speech about how her being “anti-marriage” is the farthest thing from the truth. (Uh huh). Which gets her thinking. We see flashbacks of her leaving Ned at the altar, running out of the wedding, with Ned admiring her in bed, of them dancing in the moonlight, of them eating chocolate-covered strawberries, of them dancing again and him telling her she was like home and he’d been feeling homesick.
In another part of the hospital, Gia comes off the elevator and runs into her hubby-to-be, looking sad and ponderous. He is incredibly distracted because of his mom’s health. Seems she is still catatonic. The doctors want Nikolas to authorize drug therapy, but he is holding off approving it, since Lucky is convinced that isn’t the way to go. Nikolas isn’t sure that protecting Luke is the way to go, either, but Lucky is insistent on protecting him, so he is going to stand by Lucky for now. Nikolas vows to concentrate on helping Alexis win and wait on a decision about Laura until after the election is over. He’s such a good son, Gia purrs.
Meanwhile, Monica walks into Jax’s room at his beckoning and finds him dressed in his wheelchair and packing his things. He needs her to sign his release; he says he needs to find her. Silly Monica assumes he is talking about his wife and tries to assure him that Skye will be back soon. But, of course, Jax is talking about Brenda. Poor Brenda is missing and ill and could be in danger!
At Sonny’s penthouse…
Jason and Brenda have just announced they are married. Carly thinks it is an “incredible idea” and that it solves everything. Sonny is speechless. Finally he says, “Congratulations!” Sonny and Carly invite them in to celebrate with some champagne. Carly suggests they send out wedding announcements or, better yet, she wants to have a party there to celebrate. Sonny toasts the newlyweds. “To love, loyalty and friendship.” Brenda drinks up her glass before her husband can grab it away from her. Brenda takes off, kissing her hubby good-bye on the cheek on her way out. Her doting husband grimaces and wipes off the kiss with his jacket. With Brenda gone, Carly wants all the details. The men usher Carly out of the room so Sonny can get all the details. Sonny understands why Jason did this and is grateful. Jason says it seemed like the right thing to do. Sonny thinks it is going too far, though, and is surprised to find out that it was Brenda’s idea. Sonny tells Jason about his encounter with Brenda at the hospital the day before and how she almost reeled him in. He stopped himself from going anywhere with Brenda because she already ruined his life once and because he loves Carly. Jason promises to take care of Brenda and even seems to understand her thinking: that she doesn’t want Jax at her bedside watching her die. Sonny thinks it will not turn out well if Jason is the one at her bedside, that she is hard on people who love her and torturous to those who don’t love her. He asks Jason if he will be able to handle this for the long haul. Jason assures Sonny that he can handle it. Sonny offers Jason the ability to call Sonny and lash out at him when he feels the need to lash out at Brenda in the future. Sonny gets a phone call and Carly comes out of hiding. Carly blames herself for Jason’s actions, but Jason tries to let her know that it was his doing. Carly wonders how Elizabeth will feel about the marriage, but Jason says him and Elizabeth are over before they even started. Then, the astute Mrs. Corinthos asks, what about Courtney? Jason says Courtney is married, but Carly tells Jason how much Courtney likes him, how she lights up when she talks about him. He doesn’t say he isn’t interested in her (!); he just reminds Carly that Courtney is married. Carly has visions of Brenda dying and Jason ending up with Courtney.
Back at the hospital…
Brenda shows up to visit Jax; she is thrilled to find him out of bed with a walker. He seems to be over the idea of running off to find her, even before she arrives. She gives him her good news - she eloped with Jason. Jax is shocked! He also doesn’t understand, she despises Jason. Brenda tries to explain how she got closer to Jason when he was helping hide her and they got closer again, like when they grew up together. Jax doesn’t buy it, but Brenda continues trying to explain. Jax suggests she get an annulment. Brenda is adamant; she will stay married to Jason and they will go abroad. Jax refuses to let her die with Jason, that never mind his “commitments” to Skye, he wants to be with her while she dies. Brenda tells him their future together is over, that she can make her own decisions and huffs out.
Gia, who is apparently riding up and down on the hospital’s elevators looking for people to talk to, runs into a ticked-off Ned. She wants to talk about the wedding. He is peeved and says there will be no wedding. Then he tells her how Alexis proposed and he turned her down. Gia can’t believe how he humiliated her! Ned sets Gia straight about humiliation, telling her what it was like to be left at the altar by your bride and to be proposed to by the some woman because she is looking for the “perfect campaign accessory.” Gia tells Ned that Alexis loves him and is probably just afraid of getting hurt. She does a pretty good job of explaining Alexis’ reasoning, actually, suggesting that she feels vulnerable and only suggested marrying him in that context because she doesn’t want to get turned down. Ned isn’t convinced. Later, Gia walks into Alexis’ room and finds her crying. When Gia asks if she is all right, Alexis admits, “I just proposed to a man I really do love!”
Back at Sonny’s penthouse…
With Jason gone, Carly gets set planning the Brenda-Jason nuptials party. Sonny thinks the party is a bad idea, but Carly hopes it will get Jason’s mind off of being married to a woman he hates. As Sonny and Carly fall into their typical bickering/flirting game, it hits Carly that Jason and Brenda could end up like them…hating each other at first and then falling madly in love (ooh, I hope, I hope, I hope!!). Sonny says, “No way. Not the same thing.” Just as Carly is about to jump Sonny right then and there, his phone rings. It’s Jax; he needs to see him immediately.
Back at Kelly’s…
When Jason shows up later, Courtney takes a short break so they can talk He starts first, but she cuts him off and tells him how great he is and how grateful she has been to him, but she is married and acted impulsively so they can’t make anything of their kiss. Then she sees his wedding ring and wonders why he is wearing one. He admits he got married last night. Courtney can’t believe Jason is married to Brenda! It doesn’t seem to make sense to her.
Back at Jax’s hospital room…
Sonny arrives. (Why would a powerful mobster show up at his archenemy’s hospital room at his demand?). Jax congratulates Sonny on getting what he’s always wanted: devoted wife in his bed and a devoted mistress across the hall. Sonny says it took him no time to switch the blame and then informs him that Brenda got married because of him. Carly is listening outside the door.
At the Quartermaine house…
Everyone is thrilled when Brenda walks into the living room because they were worried when she didn’t come home last night. She tells them the great news, that she is married. They are surprised and asked who is the lucky guy? When she tells them Jason, they are stunned, not even aware that Brenda and Jason were on speaking terms. Edward says they all thought her heart was invested elsewhere. He wants all the details. Brenda makes it sound romantic and magical and says “love makes you do crazy things,” when really we see the flashback of her asking Jason to marry her and him lovingly responding, “No way in Hell.”
