Our story begins with our heroine facing our hero, backdrop – a glittering, snow-covered courtyard complete with flickering candles. “I didn’t think you would be here - I never miss a party.” Luke and Laura spend some quality time staring at each other. Meanwhile, inside the mansion (castle?) everyone is enjoying the engagement extravaganza. Gia introduces Nik to some of her “friends” (didn’t know she had any) and they act all giggly and brain dead. We have the chance for Bobbie and Tony(?) to get together and do the mutual admiration thing. Also, ample opportunity for Elton and Kristina to do a tango before he puts his foot in his mouth – twice. Stefan makes an announcement: he’s leaving the show… whoops, wrong announcement. He welcomes Kristina formally to the Cassadine clan and then drops the bomb that henceforth and forthwith; Prince Nikolas Stavros Dimetrivich Cassadine will take over all the holdings of the vast Cassadine Empire – yowza. Nik looks stunned, but hey, maybe with all that moolah the guy can get a decent haircut! Gia notes Nikolas’ unease and isn’t sure what the big deal is….
Monica and Alan stop bickering over Skye and Rae and their Christmas plans to digest that little bombshell. Well, says Alan, this is good news for GH. How crass – Alan, but you know, you’re right! Good thing that Nik has a soft spot for GH, they could sure use a nice cash infusion to buy some new sets! Anyway, they continue to snipe at each other until Alan delivers what he thinks is the best compromise, he’ll set his ex-mistress and bastard child up in a nice hotel room and spend Christmas Eve with them, then return home (to his legal, yet oh-so dysfunctional) family for Christmas Day. Blow it out your…. Well, that’s what Monica was thinking – yes?
Stefan realizes that Laura missed his big announcement and heads outside to tell her of his decision. As he asks Luke to excuse them, Luke reminds Laura that she owes him a dance then heads to the bar. Inside, he tells Roy to give him a call on his cell in 10 minutes. Roy, the faithful sidekick that he is (yawn) says sure, no prob. Stefan explains to Laura that Nik is the future of the family and that he’s been preparing him for this role his whole life. Laura reminds him that Nikolas just fell in love for the first time (I guess Katherine didn’t count), just met his natural father and lost him and needs time to JUST BE. No time for that, states Count Vlad, there are too many things to be done and Nikolas understands his duty. Laura’s not pleased.
Skye is kicking herself (again) over Jax. This girl’s got it so bad for him. I almost feel sorry for her, almost but not quite. A.J. tells her “I told you so” and reiterates that Jax is not to be trusted, even if he is interested in helping get Sonny out of ELQ. Skye tells him to concentrate on finding Janine and off he goes. Skye has an AA moment when she’s contemplating having a drink, but manages to push aside the impulse (you go girl!). Later, Jax waltzes in and Skye tries to hide her tears.
Luke heads out back for his promised dance and he and Laura get after it! Very romantic, lots of good lingering looks and BINGO!! some semi-serious kissing is going on – yeah baby! The music ends, but the two stay locked together until... The cell phone rings. Roy is busting Luke’s chops about what an obviously cheesy deal this is. Trying to pull Laura into another exciting adventure (a la’ Gloria Monty?) Luke dangles some obscure information while Roy is laughing in the background. Laura has a speculative look on her face. You can tell she’s not sure whether to believe this shtick or not.
Inside the mansion, Gia’s looking for her betrothed. Finds him in the library looking at old snapshots (well, kinda). She asks why this money thing is weirding him out and he pulls out the books, points to the bottom line and says “this is why” – Gia’s eyes bug out, I’m surprised she didn’t have to use her finger to keep track of the zeroes and commas, trust me, it’s a load of $$.
Over at Jax's, paranoia in the shape of Carly comes busting in. She thinks Jax is using her to get back at Sonny. Why, says Jax, because Skye says so? Watch out for her, and if you want out of our deal, just say so. If not, I’ll expect the revised budget numbers on my desk in the a.m. And by the way, stop barging into my home, “then get an office” says Carly. Point well taken says Jax.
