General Hospital Update for Monday, 18-Dec-2000

DEC. 18th. is THE BIG DAY for the lovely, serene Alexis to wed Ned. Neither She nor he is as nervous as Elton ,the wedding director. This adds a touch of comedy to this upcoming serious moment of celebration. Ned and Alexis are "READY TO UNITE AS ONE". All members of the wedding party are dressed in lovely, pastel gowns, and a sober AJ beams as the time shortens for this beautiful, solemn, yet, JOYFUL occasion.Prior to this momentous event, Lila gives Alexis a half a 6 pence to wear in her shoe. It is a typical, warm , humorous Alexis who drops it, recovers it,and tries to walk with it in her shoe, etc. Carly lends her the diamond earrings that she wore in her wedding to Sonny, Stefan gives her an exqusite, antique handkerchief with her GREAT GRANDMOTHER"S initials(something old), and a lovely Emily and an adorable Brooklyn give her a blue garter.SOME Girls who have married can surely identify with these golden mementos. In the meantime, Luke says MERRY CHRISTMAS to LULU and Laura, and especially, to Felicia as he departs PORT CHARLES. He appears to be somewhat sad when he sees Scott and Serena at Laura's to decorate her Christmas tree.A moment that was touching was when LILA said to the bride-to-be "LOVE YOUR HUSBAND EVEN WHEN HE INFURIATES YOU". Her long, happy marriage to Edward yields some sage advice.Edward says to NEd "YOU ARE MARRYING A STRONG WOMAN AS I DID"."These strong women will keep things fun."
When the malicious HELENA walks in, All the guests look disgusted ,and, NO ONE appreciates this cold, manipulative , evil, uninvited guest being there. Finally, with a late nuptial to come, a precious Brooklyn strews rose petals, to Ned's delight. Emily, and a beaming Carly proceed,and finally, the beautiful bride enters. FREEZE! All at once, poor Alexis stops in her track in the aisle where she hears the wedding waltz "in slow motion." As if that were not enough, she sees Edward with a banner that says DIVORCE, NED has a big BALL AND CHAIN, AJ is drinking away, and Monica and Alan look as if they stepped out of THE STEPFORD WIVES as a robotic husband and wife.
