General Hospital Update for Friday, 7-Jan-2000

I. The Quartermaine party

Sonny sends Johnny down to get the car. Hanna is hiding by Jason’s apartment.

Carly is in the living room organizing things. AJ comes in and compliments her on her appearance. Carly makes nice and tells AJ she understands how important the party is to him. Edward comes in, compliments Carly on her appearance, and tells AJ that his job is on the line tonight. If he doesn’t get the European guest to sign the contract, he is out as CEO. Carly purrs that everything will go according to plan (and whose plan might that be???).

The Jaxtons are preparing to leave for the party, but pause to discuss Operation Gertrude. Ned thinks that Allan should be the next candidate in the “Marry Gertrude” sweepstakes. The other three point out that Allan is married. Ned explains that Allan and Monica are due for their next divorce. Ned is confident that Allan will cooperate.

AJ & Carly are still in the living room. AJ tells her not to try to sneak out with Michael during the party. Carly tells him she knows exactly what to do. Allan and Monica enter. Allan is nice to Carly; Monica takes jabs at her. Allan tells Monica to be nice and they begin to argue. Carly goes to check on Michael. AJ tries to get Allan and Monica to stop fighting. He stresses that his job is on the line tonight. The make nice and leave.

Sonny leaves for the party. Hannah comes out of hiding and tries to let herself into the penthouse with the key Sonny gave her. Wisely, Sonny has changes the locks. She leaves.

Allan talks to Amanda about Carly’s work at the charity guild. Monica has a hard time controlling her desire to insult Carly. Edward reminds AJ and marrying Carly was the best thing he’s ever done.

AJ welcomes the European guests. Edward welcomes Gertrude. Gertrude spies Allan; Monica is sullen. The Jaxtons arrive. Ned points out that Gertrude and Allan are flirting. Monica tells Allan that the hospital has paged them and drags him away.

Jax chats with Johan, the German guest, who is an old business friend. AJ pipes up “Jax is a member of our board." The guy says, “I know” and continues chatting with Jax and Alexis. Ned talks with the Rene, the French guest; Chloe translates for them. Edward drags AJ off and wants to know where Carly is. Johan says that he misses doing business with Ned. Edward jumps in and says that Ned I still involved with ELQ – he is a board member and acts as a consultant. Ned suggests that AJ give the guys a tour of the caviar and the Jaxtons go into the living room. AJ asks if they’ve had a change to look over his proposals. They respond by saying, “oh, look, there’s caviar” and walk away.

The Jaxtons tell Allan they have a proposal for him. Allan says he’s not interested. Ned tells his it affects AJ. [Interestingly enough, the Jaxtons make their pitch standing as the true couples, not the marrieds.] If Allan will marry Gertrude, Ned promises he will not return to ELQ and AJ will get to keep his job.

Sonny arrives. Edward tells AJ that Carly invited him. AJ tells Sonny that he is not welcome. Edward says that any board member is welcome and thanks him for taking the time out of his schedule to come to the party “considering the labor unrest at the docks.” Sonny says that his workers are fine. Edward is quite happy and wants to take him into the living room for a drink. Sonny goes over and introduces himself to the European guests. Lila enters. She welcomes Sonny.

Allan again says he’s not interested in marrying Gertrude. Allan threatens to go tell Gertrude, but doesn’t because Lila would be devastated if Chloe lost her company. Allan leaves.

Edward tries to get AJ to go find Carly, who has still not come downstairs. AJ is sure she’ll be there soon. Sonny flatters Lila. Jax comes over to greet Lila. Lila says he’s happy to have both Jax and Sonny at the party; each takes her hand. Edward tries to shoo them away from Lila.

Carly finally arrives.

[Warning: words cannot do this scene justice; it was just too funny. It must be seen to be fully appreciated.]

Carly makes her entrance by whistling loudly at the top of the stairs. She walks down yelling “Yo! Listen up everybody, glad you could make it. Anybody asks, I’m Mrs. AJ Quartermaine.” She is dressed in a black crop-top sweater, a light blue sequin very mini-skirt, and boots that come to just above her knees. The Q’s are mortified; Sonny tries to hide his amusement. Carly blows AJ a kiss, then blows a bubble with her gum.

II. Everyone else

Mac, with Dara in tow, taunts Faison about a Murder One charge. Faison does not know what Mac is talking about.

Helena runs into Luke and Roy on the dock. Luke taunts her about going to jail. Helena tells Luke that she is not going to jail – she “feels lucky.” Helena leaves. Luke tells Roy about the Spencer/Cassadine history.

Bobbie and Laura enter Laura’s house while Lulu and Lucas play outside in the snow. Bobbie is clearly looking for Roy. Laura tells Bobbie that he is not there. Bobbie playfully acts innocent. They vaguely discuss their past loves – Luke and Roy. Bobbie leaves. Laura stares at a Spencer family photo.

Luke is on the docks opening a box of cigars when Liz arrives. They talk about Lucky. Liz tells Luke about finding a friend who made her forget for a while, but she still misses Lucky. Liz leaves.

Helena bribes a cop to let her see Faison alone. She tells him he’s about to be charged with Katherine’s murder. He says he didn’t kill her. Helena admits that she did, but “why go to jail when I can send you?” Helena tells Faison how she framed him. Faison threatens to tell everyone that she has Lucky. She tells him that, if he tells, she cannot help him escape. She leaves.

Stefan has come to pick Laura up for dinner. Laura has to cancel because Lulu is sick. Stefan offers to have dinner brought to them. Laura tries to beg off, but Stefan won’t take no for an answer. He goes to call for food and finally gets it. He asks if she wants him there.

Helena and her current boy toy (whose name escapes me) meet on the dock. She send him to the place where Lucky is being kept to tell the people watching him that she will be arriving soon.

Stefan gets agitated that Laura is trying to send him away. Laura tells him that she loves him but still cannot forgive him for lying so easily. Stefan leaves and she looks a little relieved. Luke arrives and she looks happy to see him.

Faison is pacing in his cell when Mac arrives to taunt him some more.

Roy and Larkin are meeting on the dock. Larkin complains that Roy hasn’t given the FBI any more evidence against Sonny than Hannah did. Roy says that perhaps Hannah didn’t do such a bad job after all. Bobbie arrives.
