General Hospital Update for Thursday, 26-Aug-1999

I. The Q’s

The show opens with Ned listening to the song he wrote for Alexis as Chloe enters. She is feeling better after her night out with Jax. They discuss the ramifications of Alexis posing as Chloe with the band manager the other day. They leave for a meeting.

Edward is on the phone with Gertrude telling her he has a fool-proof plan to expose the Ashton-Jax marriage sham. Jason walks in from the rose garden and Edward quickly hangs up. AJ enters and accuses Jason of trying to ruin his honeymoon by organizing a work slowdown at the docks.

Reginald enters frantically looking for Letitia. When he finds out she is still in Hawaii, he goes
off on AJ. Edward tells Reginald to call Letitia. Reginald tells Edward and AJ that they do not understand a person’s needs. He gives Jason his blessing if Jason is there to torture Edward and AJ; if Jason is not there to torture them, could he pencil them into his schedule? Reginald leaves.

Edward and AJ continue to try to get Jason to stop the work slowdown. Jason says he is not the cause of the problem. AJ and Jason have words about Carly and Michael that are the equivalent of AJ stamping his foot and saying “They’re my Carly and Michael dolls and you can’t play with them!” AJ says that he can beat the union; that he’s dealt with strikes before. Jason points out that it’s not a strike - it’s a slowdown and that means the union is willing to deal. AJ asks for a list of Jason’s demands. Jason points out that he is not the union rep and gives AJ the rep’s name. AJ says he hasn’t heard from the rep. Jason asks if he got the union wish list four months ago. AJ says it was a fantasy list. Jason explains how it works - circle the ones you can live with, cross out the ones you can’t, the rest you revise - it’s called negotiation. Edward asks to see the settlement Jason and Sonny came up with; Jason agrees. Ed tells AJ to call the rep and tell him that ELQ is willing to come up with a settlement similar to Jason and Sonny’s. AJ leaves. Edward tries to use Michael to get Jason to be more involved in ELQ. Jason calls his bluff, so Edward tries using Carly. Jason tells him off and leaves.

Later, Gertrude arrives. Lila tells Edward to leave Ned Dan Chloe alone and leaves after barely speaking to Gertrude. Edward briefly tries Lila’s approach, but is soon back to plotting with Gertrude - he has arranged to have the gatehouse videotaped. AJ interrupts to tell Edward that the union “thing” has been resolved and that he’ll call from the plane. Edward wants to hear about it now. He dismisses Gertrude and calls Reginald to show her out. Reginald enters in a Hawaiian shirt and wants to know when he and AJ leave. There’s no way I could do this scene justice; it was just too funny. Edward refuses to give Reginald time off to go with AJ, so AJ leaves alone. Reginald calls Edward a tyrant and lets him have it.

Ned and Chloe return to the gatehouse. Chloe admits that she has discovered a depth in Jax
that she did not expect to find. She tells Ned about how Jax opened up to her about Brenda. Ned tells her about Brenda’s illness. She thinks Jax was wonderful. They leave for dinner. The guy arrives to install the surveillance equipment.

II. The Kelly’s gang
Sonny and Hanna return from the island and talk outside Kelly’s. Inside, a distracted Liz overfills a glass of water. Juan and Emily dance (to the same song Lucky and Liz last danced to). Liz watches miserably remembering when she and Lucky danced. She makes excuses and leaves. Emily and Juan go outside to look for Liz and encounter Sonny and Hanna. Sonny asks to speak with Juan. “Been there, done that,” is Juan’s witty response. Emily tells Juan he should listen to what Sonny has to say. Sonny apologizes for his behavior the other day. Sonny tells Juan he’d like to tell Juan about his life with Lily. Juan agrees and they leave. Emily and Hanna bond over their men.

Sonny takes Juan to the cemetery. He tells Juan how much Lily wanted him. Juan tells Sonny how he found out he was adopted - he found a letter signed by Hernando Rivera. Sonny tells Juan again that he is not Juan’s father - he swears it on Lily’s grave. He tells Juan that Miguel Morez is his father. Sonny came to see him and give him Lily’s cross as a way to honor Lily. Sonny says that he wishes Juan were his son - he’d do just about anything for Juan. “Except ask me to hang around,” Juan says. Juan wants to know why Sonny won’t let him get closer. Sonny tells Juan about his marriage to Lily and her death. As Sonny intended, Juan blames him.

Felicia enters Kelly’s looking for Mac. Bobbie tries to get her to tell Mac about the possible alliance between Faison and Luke. They argue. Felicia thinks Faison is setting her up to turn Luke over to the police. Mac enters and says Faison has disappeared. Actually, Faison is in Zurich posing as a computer repairman. He easily finds Helena’s file, guesses the password, and finds the formula that will either cure or kill her. Mac and Felicia agree that they have to stick together to survive Faison - his MO is to divide and conquer.

Liz is at home drawing. She destroys the picture and listens to Lucky’s song about her. She puts on Lucky’s old shirt and lays on the bed thinking of him. She looks through the things they shared - the subway token, etc. She begins going through her clothes looking for just the right outfit and finds a black tanktop and pants, then begins doing her makeup. Turns out she’s going trolling at Jake’s.
