Our show opens with Jax and Chloe enjoying a morning in Rome…in disguises, of course. She’s got on some reading glasses and French braid pigtails; he’s in tourist shades, sleeveless shirt, and a camera around his neck. They’re playing German tourists to avoid Gertrude’s prying eyes.
Mac is working overtime to put Faison away. Faison is taunting his guards.
Emily wants to see Jason. She tells him how Juan is nice to her (Jason doesn’t agree), and Emily begs him to intercede and talk to Monica about how Juan is really okay.
There’s another party at the Q’s garden: Michael has been officially named Michael Alan Quartermaine. Michael is getting fussy, so Carly takes him up for a nap. When she returns, AJ proposes a toast that clearly upsets Carly, saying, “As of today, my son begins his new life. All of the mistakes of the past are over.” Edward talks about setting up Michael’s trust fund. Amanda Barrington makes some comments to Carly that clearly offend Carly’s sensibilities: how it’s important to have a last name to show who you belong to, and that Carly must be proud of Michael now. Carly points out she always has been proud of Michael. Lila steps in and privately tells Carly she’s very brave…Carly responds cheerfully, “Like mother, like daughter.” – and then turns around and is cruel to Bobbie.
Back to Chloe and Jax. I wish I could do this scene justice, but it was really cute. A tacky couple from Fort Worth came up and asked to see Chloe’s sketch. She shows it to them, and it’s a fountain that the couple threw coins into when they were on their honeymoon. Our kids are staying in their German tourist characters pretty firmly, pretending not to completely understand – but eventually Chloe gives them the sketch, and then they leave the sidewalk café, Choloe’s forgotten her shoes, which Jax smiles as he stops to pick up. (I have to whine a bit here: there was a major continuity issue in this scene! Jax and Chloe left, with the cute little shoes thing, we go to commercial, then the next scene the couple tries to buy the sketch…and Jax and Chloe leave again. It’s almost like they did the scene in two takes, and edited both in! OOOPS!)
Carly goes to Jason to tell him about Michael’s name change…it’s clearly hard for her. They have a long talk about how things could have been different and how Carly appreciates Jason being around. Jason is clearly falling for her…poor guy.
Just as Felicia convinces Mac that it’s okay for him to go home and get some sleep, Taggert bursts into his office, saying Faison wants to see Felicia. Mac wants to storm down and see him, but Taggert and Felicia stop him. It is also clear that none of the guards want to guard Faison – they are having a sick out.
Now off to Kelly’s – Bobbie tenderly tells Mike that they’ve renamed Michael, and he wasn’t invited to the party. They talk about how their kids are certainly not what they expected. (In case there are any newbies out there: Bobbie is Carly’s mom, and Mike is Sonny’s dad.)
Alan congratulates AJ, while Monica snipes. They recount the custody battle for new viewers :) Emily finally shows, but the party is over. They give her a hard time, accusing her of sneaking off to see Juan. She informs them she was really at Jason’s, and accuses them of mistreating Michael and stealing him from his only chance at a good life—Jason. Em also points out that Carly is not around…much to AJ’s dismay. Emily is on a roll, she just provokes Alan more and more standing up for Jason! They are doing a good job of writing this teenager :) And then Alan and Monica get into it over which son each loves more…Em tries to leave, Alan stops her, Monica tells her she can go to Jason’s…Emily is totally confused about why Alan is so upset.
Back to Carly and Jason, still rehashing their past. Carly tells Jason she’d do anything to be with him. He asks, “Even leave AJ?” She nods. He points out, “And drag Michael through another custody battle?” She doesn’t really react before the scene ends.
Felicia convinces Mac to let her see Faison…she has good instincts and besides, she’ll be on the other side of the bars, what can he do to her? (Can you say FORESHADOWING, people?)
Jax and Chloe return to the sidewalk café, fresh from their trip to the fountain. (In other words, they only built one set for “Rome”.) They talk about the magic of the day, yadda, yadda, yadda, and then he says “Kiss me.” She looks deep into his eyes, saying, “Translate, please.” He leans in and kisses her. Can I just remind all of you, she’s getting PAID to kiss him? Wish my job was this good! :)
Felicia goes down to see Faison. He starts with “I knew you would come,” and then stares into her eyes. She tries really hard not to look rattled.
Carly tells Jason she loves him, and that she knows that he loves her too, and she will always love him. She’s crying hard, and he holds her close and almost kisses her, they lean into each other for a moment, then back off into a big hug. The moment is lost, Jason tries to calm her down and sends her home (probably before he does something he’ll regret). In the hallway outside Sonny’s apartment, she asks him to loan her money for a cab, while the tears are streaming down her face. He puts the money in her hand, kisses it. She leans in to kiss him, still crying, he strokes her arm, as the elevator doors open behind her, and AJ comes out not looking very happy to see his wife almost kissing his brother…
