General Hospital Update for Tuesday, 10-Aug-1999

I. Nik and his women
The show opens with Laura bringing Nikolas cookies baked by LuLu. He looks preoccupied and she asks if he's okay. He tells her Katherine was over and still feels connected to him. Laura goes on a mini anti-Katherine tirade. Nik agrees and says he just wants Katherine out of his life. Laura confesses her run-in at Luke's to Nik and also tells him about her trip to the boxcar. She says him she has learned to value her living children. She tells him not to let Katherine back in his life. She makes some comments about how he always does what's right and he continues to try to look pensive over the pregnancy issue. Laura leaves.

Meanwhile, Katherine enters Kelly's and orders herbal tea from Liz while making comments about how "coffee's a little rough on the system" and rubbing her stomach. [Yes, but can she rub her stomach and pat her head at the same time???] As usual, Katherine tries to goad Liz into a confrontation.

Liz tries to ignore her, but tells Tammy she needs a break. Emily comes in and Liz drags her out. We hear Katherine on her cell phone ordering a maternity dress, but Liz does not hear her. Liz vents to Emily about Katherine. Emily suggests ignoring her. Emily is no longer grounded - Alan and Monica realized it was not doing any good and Emily blared her most obnoxious music till they gave in. However, she still cannot see Juan.

Later, Liz turns up at Nik's. She wanted to make sure he was okay. She tells him about her run-in with Katherine. Nik says Katherine is having a hard time dealing with their break-up. Before Liz can try to get him to open up more, he distracts her by saying he'll let her drive his Jag to go get ice cream.

Katherine visits Helena to tell her of the pregnancy. Naturally, Helena doesn't have anything to say about that.

II. Juan, part one
Tony is stumped over Juan's "medical condition". None of the tests can show a cause for the problem. (Apparently there's no test for lovesickness) Tony leaves. Juan's father asks if he's faking. Juan admits it and says he just wants to stay in PC. Juan says he doesn't feel like he belongs in Puerto Rico. His father agrees to speak to Laura.

Laura has returned to the hospital and speaks to Juan's father. She tells him that the best thing for Juan is to take him home and spend time loving and listening to him. Juan's father asks her what she would do if it were her child. Laura tells him that she cannot make the decision for him.

**News break about the shootings at the Jewish Community Center in LA.**
The show returns with Laura and Tony rehashing her behavior over Lucky's leaving home. They discuss Juan's situation.

III. Woe am I - more aftermath
Sonny remembers the confrontation with Hanna from yesterday and contemplates calling her. He does not do it.

Jason returns from the meeting with Carlos. The meeting went well, which means that Jason is back in the organization. Sonny does not understand why he wants back in when he was able to escape it. Jason says it's where he belongs, it's what he knows and there's no longer anything to lose. They shake on it.

Sonny and Jason are eating. Sonny tells him about Hanna's visit. He tells Jason that he kept telling her to leave, but wanted her back as soon as she left. Sonny asks Jason to go check on Hanna and Juan.

Mike comes by to check on Sonny. He tries talking to Jason about betting on the horses, but Jason leaves. Mike tells Sonny that Juan is doing better but has a leg problem. Sonny goes for a drink. Mike stops him and Sonny wants to know if he should fly in a specialist for Juan. Mike and Sonny have another go-'round about how nothing is Sonny's fault. [Mike might as well have been beating his head against a brick wall.] **This is when the news break started, so I may have missed more go-'round**

Sonny tells Mike that Juan thinks Sonny is his father. He tells Mike what has happened since Juan's arrival in PC. They revisit Lily's death. Sonny cries. He was supposed to have died with Lily and their unborn child and Mike was the one who prevented it by wanting to talk to Sonny that night. Mike cries. He is not sorry that Sonny is alive. Mike leaves.

Jason returns from his mission. He reports that Juan was faking the leg problem in an effort to stay in PC with Emily. Jason also reports that Tammy says Hanna is angry. Sonny says he can overcome her anger, that he'd like to keep her around.

IV. Juan, part two
After Kelly's, Emily sneaks into the hospital and is caught by Jason. Emily tells Jason about what happened to Juan. Jason tells her that Sonny said she was very brave. She tells Jason that she cannot see Juan and about how important Juan has become to her. They go into Juan's room. Jason tells Juan he came for Sonny, but Juan is not terribly impressed.

Jason has left and Juan tells Emily that he told his father the truth. They discuss his leaving. He promises to come back to her. Juan's father comes in and begins to tell them about his conversation with Laura when she enters. Laura tells Juan that she knows about his lie. He says he did it so he could have another chance at getting into the outreach program. Laura asks if he's using the program as a way to stay with Emily. He denies it and says he's really interested in the program and agrees to abide by all the rules. Laura says she'll let him into the program despite her reservations. Juan's father says he can stay in PC, but only for the rest of the summer then he must come home. Juan's father and Laura leave. Emily gushes that they will have more time together even if it is only a month. They kiss.
