General Hospital Update for Tuesday, 27-Jul-1999

Today’s show opens with Ned asking Jax to help him pick a wedding band for Chloe.

On to Chloe and Carly in the Q’s den, where they chit-chat and make nice a bit. AJ comes in and agrees that Carly is right at home with the Q’s. Carly and AJ discuss business a bit, and she advises him to remember that everyone at ELQ works for him.

Laura and Stefan are having a day in the park with Lulu; she has grown! Then we see Luke calling and asking to see Lulu, and Faison comes in while he’s on the phone. Luke asks him for more money. They go back and forth a bit, and Luke offers to take the balance in diamonds. Faison calls Luke trying and says he’ll receive the balance of what he’s owed—in cash—by the end of the day.

Laura and Stefan are still in the park, he invites her and Lulu along on his next trip…she says no, she’s just getting settled into her routine, and wants to stick around town. (Can I just ask a question here: WHAT DID THIS SCENE CONTRIBUTE TO ANYTHING? How did it advance ANY plot? I hate these two! They’re BORING!!!!!)

Emily informs Monica that she won’t be going to Chloe’s shower. Monica tells her that she has to go apologize to Chloe and tell her why she’s not going. Chloe says she understands, she wouldn’t come either if she was Em’s age. They talk a bit, and Chloe asks the precarious question: what would your grandparents do? Em’s realization: Grandfather would pretend to do what you wanted, then go behind your back and do whatever he wanted! And promptly she runs out the door. Chloe looks perplexed…

While the boys are ring shopping, the jeweler is getting a little confused. The guys know WAY too much about each others’ wife/fiancée.

A nurse is reading to Helena, who looks REALLY bored. Katherine comes in. She tells Helena that she’s lost Nik, and asks for her advice. Stefan walks in and says that Helena’s advice-giving days are over.

Laura and Lulu arrive at Luke’s. Luke tells Lulu that he’s going away for a little while. Laura asks Lulu to leave the room, and then asks Luke if it worries him that they’re so out of touch. She recaps the crypt incident, asking what he was doing there. Luke recaps the story of what happened, and Laura comments that Lulu needs her daddy…and that this sounds like one of their own old adventures. Laura tries to manipulate him into staying, but he convinces her that he needs to go. Laura and Lulu go, and Faison walks in…and finds out that Lulu is Luke’s daughter, commenting, “you have a daughter too.” Luke makes an interesting face.

Stefan drives Kat off, and Stefan reminds Helena that Kat will never know the “true nature of your illness”…. Stefan fills Helena in on how he’s consolidating his holdings in the estate. He also comments that he should really pay closer attention to the development of the antidote to her condition. Laura comes in and Helena glares hard at the happy couple.

Faison and Luke talk about when Luke will be back in touch. Luke clearly resents being watched, and promises he’ll be in touch.

Ned worries that the band he’s picked is too plain. Jax reminds him about how Chloe likes simple and understated…and talks about how Alexis is the perfect wife.

Back to the shower: Chloe is getting a lot of lingerie…and Carly is getting more uncomfortable. Even Em got her some (very tasteful) lingerie, and told a sweet story about how she found it at an estate sale. Carly thinks that Chloe gets her lingerie because she’s a blushing bride, Carly gets it because she’s a tramp. Carly is clearly disappointed and jealous. Carly and Bobbie slip out and chat on the balcony, and Carly sounds like she is a little sad, but getting happy with her new life.

Monica passes around champagne like she’s going to propose a toast, but Carly steps up to the plate, doing a decent job: “Chloe, on behalf of Lila and the rest of the Quartermaines, welcome to the family.” Monica looks annoyed at being displaced…Chloe thanks her for a lovely shower and they have a big hug.

AJ comes in and asks to steal his wife away. AJ is busting with good news: he fired someone and everyone else fell into line.

Chloe and Alexis chat a bit more about how hopeless romantics always end up with the wrong people. Ned describes a perfect wedding as just him and his bride. Jax describes his perfect wedding: exactly what he and Brenda had on the yacht. (He didn’t say that, we’re supposed to remember.)

Laura tells Stefan that she’ll be thinking about him and their relationship while he’s gone. They share a deep kiss.

Luke looks longingly at a picture of Lucky as he packs his bag to leave his office, saying “See you around, Cowboy.” The camera pans in on the picture of Lucky that’s on his desk. Cut to Felicia playing jump rope with her girls in the park—pan to Faison in the bushes watching them.
