General Hospital Update for Friday, 23-Jul-1999

The show opens with Jax and Chloe at the airport. He offers her a ride to New York on his private plane. He wants to teach her the fine art of negotiating as a team. She accepts the ride.
They go to New York and buy hot dogs in Central Park. They sit and talk about how well the negotiations went and Jax confides that every opponent that he's had lately has become Aunt Gertrude to him. Jax tells her that Ned should have married Alexis in Las Vegas because that would have been accepted and expected. Chloe says that she wouldn't want to have married the right person (hint, hint) because it would have been for the wrong reasons. (I'm glad they explained that because I didn't get why she didn't marry Jax either.) It closes out with them about to kiss.

Laura tells Stefan that she had it out with Katharine. Stefan tells Laura not to provoke her because it makes Katharine the victim in Nik's eyes. He feels sorry that he enmeshed Katharine in their lives when he shot her. Laura asks if the shooting was as Luke described it and Stefan admits to it. He goes on and on about how Katharine needed him and she became a refracted image of falling in love with Laura. He then tells Laura that she is the warden and he is her prisoner and he leans in close and says, "Don't think I don't see the poetic justice in that." (Yikes, who writes this stuff? Warden and prisoner??)

Juan has come out of surgery and Sonny is at his bedside. He tells Juan that he almost had a little brother. He wonders if his son would have looked like Juan. Would his boy have been as smart and fearless as Juan? He wishes he could have told him that he was his father. Emily comes in and they go into the hall to talk. She tells Sonny that she's never been afraid of him that he's so soft-spoken, not wanting to be noticed. She mentions Brenda's name and says, "I see in you what I saw before--how sad you are." Monica sees them and barges over to tell Sonny that she doesn't want him near her daughter. She tells Emily to go home or she will call security to have her taken to her car and driven home. Emily tells Monica if Juan dies she'll never forgive her. Monica starts in on Sonny. Sonny tries to explain that he doesn't know how Emily got there, etc. but Monica won't even listen. She says she is immune to his soulful looks (is there a woman alive who is immune??!) She's going to protect her daughter from him.
Mr. Santiago comes rushing in looking for Dr. Quartermaine and introduces himself. He says that is his son in there fighting for his life because of Sonny. He accuses Sonny of setting in motion this chain of events when he gave Juan Lily's cross. Sonny says he'll be the villain, but if life was so perfect with Santiago why did Juan come looking for him?
Emily comes back to talk to Juan and wonders if she did the right thing by calling the police. Juan wakes up and asks for Sonny. Sonny arrives home at the penthouse and pulls the pictures of Lily and Juan out. He pours himself a drink and then smashes it.

Luke and Felicia head over to Edward's to confront him. She comments on his new shaved 'do. Edward thinks they've come for money to fund the memoirs. They tell him this is about Elliot Thompson the man you murdered. She shows him photos and tell him they have a letter. They tell him their theory of what happened complete with the black and white acting. They show him the poker and he looks stricken. He admits he killed Elliot but wants Lila left out of the whole thing. He can't believe they'd go to the police after all these years. Lila comes in and says it's time they knew the whole story.

Faison also had a small scene where he's on the phone ordering two dozen white roses to be delivered to the usual place for Anna Devane.

The previews were: Jax telling Chloe he has the perfect wedding present for her. Emily telling Juan that Sonny told her he's not his father. Sonny breaking the glasses and throwing them off the table. Lila telling Felicia they've got it all wrong. And Hannah getting told that Sonny has asked you to stay away so give him that.
