Subject: Date: 10/31/98 10:18 AM From: Jan Yarnot, jyarnot@netcom.com UPDATE THURSDAY OCTOBER 22 1.The Great Dress Robbery/My Fair Lady V. comes bopping into the guest house all ready to work on L&B business, but Ned has something else in mind. He's going to give her another free lesson on how to conduct herself in Monte Carlo. He thinks that "a woman who wears a man like Jax on her arm requires a very specific sense of style, which is not easy to acquire, and practice can only help." She says that other than the red dress she bought on sale for the Nurses' Ball, she doesn't have anything to practice in. He says "You do now" and points to a heap of clothes over the chair. He admits they are a little gauche for Monte Carlo, but thinks she'll get the general idea. He got them, he says, from an anonymous donor. Katherine comes running down the stairs, dangerous in her high heels, and sees Reginald (also dangerous). "It was YOU, I know it, and I want them back!" It turns out her evening dresses are missing. An entire section of her wardrobe has been wiped out. Reginald suggests she check with the fashion police. She threatens to have him fired immediately. Monica comes (much more gracefully) down the steps and asks Reginald what is going on. Monica suggests that Katherine should calm down, but KatyBell is in a rage. She has a very important reception to go to and she has nothing to wear. Reginald wants her to ask Cook. [Your Fearless Updater would pay money to see that!] Reginald leaves and Katherine turns on Monica. Monica doesn't believe it. She adds acute paranoia to the list of Katherine's many failings. Katherine foams at the mouth as Monica prepares to leave, coming up with the ultimate insult: "Perhaps you wanted them for yourself." Monica greets that with the contempt it deserves: "I wouldn't be caught DEAD in one of your dresses."Katherine looks in the living room, and when she turns, Monica is gone. AJ and Edward walk into the living room discussing Michael. AJ says that Robin seems sympathetic but it wouldn't hurt to explore other options so he's going to try to see Carly himself. Edward worries that he'll make Carly snap again. Katherine comes charging in, "something horrible has happened, and I need your help." She tells them about her stolen dresses. AJ and Edward start giggling. AJ leaves, chuckling. Edward says dress stealing will not be tolerated under his roof. He leaves while Katherine pours herself some tea. Katherine turns and he's gone. V. comes down the stairs in a blue and sequin number. Ned asks how she feels. She says the person who owns this dress has a little more "personality" (looking at her, uh, chestline) than she does and she feels terrible. "THIS is not me, Ned. Donning a dress does not a new identity make. I'm still in here. Me. V. The tomboy. The klutz." Ned tells her to get out of her own way and remember the rules of the game, which is to blend in. But first she has to get comfortable in the skin of her character. Go pick our another dress. She paws through the dresses and chooses one, runs off. Ned looks worried. V comes back in a slinky black number and drapes herself across the back of a chair, till she falls in and she says "It's not working." Ned is surprised. "You were almost there." He suggests she think of it as Hallowe'en. There's a knock on the door. It's Jax. He says "This is all wrong." V. turns, says "I knew it. Fraud, fraud, fraud." Jax says her only mistake was listening to Ned. "The dress she has on reeks of social climbing. (Naaah!) Anyone with real class could spot that in a minute." Ned told her the same thing. The men spar. Jax doesn't want Ned's help, but V appreciates it and wants them to help her together. Emily comes into the living room after school. Katherine slinks up, wants to hear about her day. Mostly, of course, she's not interested in geometry and pop quizzes. She's checking that Emily didn't borrow the dresses. "I'm sorry, Katherine, I didn't know they were yours." It turns out Emily means the pens, after Katherine gets supersnotty. Katherine fumes, thinking maybe Emily will help her get to the bottom of the mystery. She turns, and Emily is gone. V appears in the red number. Both men are impressed. Then she gets excited. Jax goes into refinements. The people will like to hear about things they never heard about before. [Your Fearless Updater was thinking about Eliza's uncle and the aunt whot done him in. _My Fair Lady_ reference, there.] He suggests the underwater Greek temples only known to the locals of Kronos. Ned suggests that V do some library research. Katherine has gathered the whole family in her room. She's going to pull the Great Detective trick and expose the thief. She doesn't suspect Lila, but thinks she should know there's a thief in the house. Lila asks if she's sure they're missing. Monica thinks Katherine made the whole thing up. Katherine stalks to the closet to show them. The dresses are back. Emily asks if she can go, she has homework. AJ leaves to "help" Emily. Lila says "Try to get some rest, dear. It's possible you're not quite as recovered as you think you are." She wheels off. Monica glares at Edward. "Have you had enough or do you want to wait till she locks us in the basement?" She stalks out. Edward tells Katherine he knows this was her way of reaching out, "next time, consult me first." He storms out. Katherine asks Reginald who put the dresses back. Reginald says it could be just the beginning, and perhaps Katherine shouldn't even leave the room. Ned and Jax toast V and successful education. And Katherine. Jax wants another hand, V says "have a little more confidence" and immediately spills her drink. 2. What to do about Michael? Robin is sitting alone in the cottage, looking sad. Jax comes by to see how they survived the rain. They talk about the furniture. Brenda had great taste. It turns out that Brenda only bought 7 couches before settling on that one. He thinks "furniture stores all over town had her picture on the bulletin board. 'Fear this woman!'" She wanted a garden, too, as she'd never had one before. She went to the library and read up on gardening, and bought all the tools and stuff and put the whole thing in herself. He gets all maudlin. Jason and Michael are at the shop. Mike comes in and asks if Jason has called Robin yet. They talk about Robin leaving Michael with AJ again. Mike tries to explain Robin's reasons. Jason is still angry. Mike points out that him being upset and Robin being upset is not good for their little boy."You've got a situation here that's that close to spinning out of control and you're not helping it one bit." Mike says Jason is not the problem but has to be the problem solver. Robin and Carly are waiting for him to make a decision, and he isn't making one. Carly is a loose cannon. Bobbie comes in. She came in to see Jason. She wants to tell him about the visit with Carly. They talk about pompous Evans the jerk. She wants to know what will happen when Carly comes home. Jason says he can't talk to Robin because they'll fight again. Bobbie warns him that if Carly doesn't think Jason is looking out for her, she'll come up with a plan of her own, and that will be trouble for everyone. Jason asks if Carly had said she was working on a plan of her own. Bobbie reminds him of how vicious Carly can be if she's crossed. Bobbie suggests joint custody. "If you don't (work out an arrangement with Carly) you know as well as I do that we will all be paying the price for years." Bobbie leaves. At the asylum, AJ comes in and introduces himself to Dr. Evans. He's hoping to see Carly Roberts. Evans, of course, corrects him. How does this man keep his job? Evans tells AJ to go away. Jax and Robin continue to talk about Brenda. The rain reminded him of their trip to New Orleans. It reminds YFU of her breakup with Sonny. He finds out about Jason and Robin's fight. He tells Robin not to waste time fixing it. They hug and Jax leaves. Robin puts her coat on and leaves as well. Mac comes in and tells Felicia about the awful night he and Garcia had patrolling the city. He wants to know if she's heard form Robin. Felicia tells him about the fight. After they talk about that for a while, Mac asks if Felicia got any work done that day. [Your Fearless Updater notes that Mac loves the role- playing connected with Felicia's book.] Mac thinks it's time that Robin and Jason live their own life. He's going to let them be. Felicia says the real Mac has been kidnapped again. He goes up to bed. Felicia sits down to write, but the doorbell rings. It's Robin. She doesn't think Jason will ever forgive her. They go over the fight again. Robin doesn't know what to do. She and Felicia hug. Robin decides to go back to the cottage and decide what kind of arrangement she can live with. She doesn't want to make any more promises she can't keep. "We've come too far to give up." Mac comes down. He invites Robin to stay for dinner. Mike comes back to see Jason and Michael. He plans to make a special red snapper dinner. Jason has decided to come up with a plan now Carly's released. Jason tells Michael "Carly's going to hate whatever I decide, and I will too, probably, but you're going to be OK."
