Subject: Date: 10/16/98 9:16 AM From: Jan Yarnot, jyarnot@netcom.com UPDATE THURSDAY SEPTEMBER 10 1. WELCOME TO THE FAMILY Monica and Alan are in the Quartermaines' living room for a family meeting. He knocks back a pill or 10 while her back is turned. Lila and Emily come in. Edward arrives, bubbling. He announces: "..." and just then Reginald yells that he won't carry Katherine's stuff. Edward presents Katherine to the family. She'll be staying with them, "knowing no one in this family would turn a cold shoulder to a woman in need." [What's he been drinking?] She'll be taking over the East Wing. Monica: "What?" Emily: "When?" Reginald: "Why?" Lila says she's glad to see Katherine alive and well. But Katherine needs peace and quiet now and this is not the place. Edward goes maudlin: "I only hope, if I am ever alone, that someone will reach out to me." Monica: "You may find out a lot sooner than later, Edward." Lila suggests: "Reginald and I will show Katherine to her room." Alan and Emily seem to like the idea. Monica, on the other hand, goes to throw Edward out. "You can't throw me out of my house!" "It's my house!" Alan drones his "I gave it to you" line. Edward: "The woman just came back from the dead. Monica: "So did the bride of Frankenstein. What are we, a Welcome Wagon?? Can you imagine her every morning gorging herself on croissants and picking up any information she can get? She thrives on gossip, she'll sell it to anybody." Edward: "That was the Old Katherine." Monica: "Well, how do we know she won't have an attack of nostalgia? Edward, guilelessly: "Besides, we don't have anything to hide any more! A.J. is sober and Alan's weaned himself from that narcotics addiction... and look, if she is here, she'll be safe from that hideous Helena and her oily offspring. Monica: "And how do you know that they won't follow her here? Before you can say 'Eurotrash' we'll be wall to wall Cassadines!" Emily wouldn't mind that at all! Katherine and Reginald come back. Edward gives her a hug. "Mi casa es su casa." Monica assures him that it is HER casa! Later Alan and Monica talk. She's admiring him again. She's missed him. They hug, but he backs off. He says he "wants to make it memorable." After Monica leaves, Alan phones for a Viagra prescription. 2. EUROTRASH Laura comes over to see Stefan. She is worried about Katherine. Stefan says Katherine has been unpleasant. If Katherine remembers that Nik is Stefan's son, then Helena will know as well. Stefan says Katherine can't blame Laura for the things he left unsaid. He never told Katherine he loved her, and the night of the ball she found out why. Nik comes in and greet Laura. Stefan flashes back to the Greek island. Nik and Laura talk about Katherine. Nik thanks his mother for putting his welfare first by testifying. He's sorry it caused trouble at home. He asks her to come back later with Lulu. Helena has been waiting for Katherine, but it's Stefan who visits. He says Katherine is entitled to her freedom as well as her life. Helena says that Katherine has become the daughter she never had. Stefan warns her off. Katherine comes in like an avenging angel. 3. A FATAL DISEASE? Brenda is looking at the shawl from her mother. Robin talks to her and Brenda tells her about Veronica's illness and herself. Robin, the Queen of Denial, says "I KNOW you're OK." Robin says Jax could find strength, based on her year with Stone. Brenda still has years, and look how much Robin's situation has improved! There's a phone call for Robin. Luther is "having another adventure." [Yet Another Example of Brenda's great business skills!] Robin goes to handle it on her own. Brenda starts to cry. Mike comes by and comforts her. She tells him about Veronica. He tries to explain the mother's side, like him and Sonny. Mike leaves and the hotel manager comes, telling her the theater tickets have come, but Veronica checked out on Tuesday. Brenda talks to a private investigator, and leaves a message for Jax. Meanwhile, Jax and Jerry are at the Docks. The future looks bright. [Ominous Knell of Doom rings.] Jax tells Jerry he won't manage Brenda's crisis. Jerry points out maybe the wedding is not a good idea. If she doesn't have the gene than can get married and never look back, but if she does, "Good God, you can still be the most important person in her life." He calls Jax a dumb Aussie for turning Brenda down when she offered to call the wedding off. "Brenda's MY world," says Jax. Later, Robin sees Jax. Jax wants to marry Brenda now and to hell with the results. Robin agrees even though "I really don't believe in running away from my problems." Jax runs off, and finds out that Brenda is off chasing Veronica.
