From: Marina Wolf <fullsun@sonic.net> Subject: GH: UPDATE Monday 6/15 Date: Wed, 17 Jun 1998 20:24:57 -0800 GH Update Monday 6/15 -- Theatre in NYC Jax and Brenda walk into a theatre. It is empty. Brenda is confused why there are no other people there and Jax plays along. Just as they are about to leave, Jax yells out ătable for 2ä. All of a sudden the curtain rises to reveal a romantic dinner for two on stage. Jax tells Brenda: ădinner and the theatre, you said you liked that sort of thing.ä Brenda stares at him in amazement. Jax takes her hand and they walk onto the stage together toward their table. --PCPD - Stefanâs cell Taggert is antagonizing Stefan in his cell. Stefan tells him to stop trying to crack him with his comic book tactics and to tell him what he wants. Taggert replies that he wants to know the rest of what happened to Katherine. He says that Stefan gave the police a ăgentlemanlyä account of the nightâs events, but Taggert thinks that something is missing....Stefanâs reply is that Katherine leaned against the railing, thatâs all - it shouldnât have been the end of anything. He tells Taggert that if it sounds inconclusive, thatâs why. Taggert retorts: ăand nobody, not a soul, can back you up.ä Taggert then starts banging his nightstick against the cell bars, making lots of noise. Taggert says heâs having a problem believing that at such a large gathering, no one saw them together in those last minutes. Stefan just stares at him. Then Taggert begins speculating that maybe Stefan made a point of having no witnesses. Stefan continues to stare at him blankly. Taggert finally leaves him, saying that he will get the information out of Nikolas. --Spencer house Laura and Nik are sitting on the sofa, talking, while Lulu is playing nearby. Laura wonders why the police were questioning Nikolas about Katherine. He replies that everyone was being questioned, but he was the one who found Katherine first after she fell. Laura tells him that it must be difficult for him, but Nik says he wants to help, to let the police know that Stefan would never hurt Katherine and help arrest the person who is responsible for her death. Laura wonders why her name would have to come up. Nikâs response is that she knows very well why - Stefanâs feelings for her. Laura, a bit flustered at this statement, asks him if he is talking about the closeness her and Stefan had in Greece, because she already explained that to him.... Nik interjects that Stefan dressed Katherine in her gown, gave Katherine her ring. He had a portrait of her hidden in the house, a trunk full of her things... Laura replies that these were Cassidine things - family heirlooms - it is obvious that is why Stefan kept them. Nik doesnât agree. Laura asks him: ăWhat are you suggesting? You think that your uncle is in love with me?ä She goes on about how Stefan blames her for everything , has ridiculed and insulted her. Nik comes back at her with: ăYou can love someone and hate them at the same time...but what I think isnât the point - itâs how it seemed to Katherine at the time. Stefan and Katherine were fighting on the parapet before she fell.ä Then he asks Laura if they were fighting about her. Lauraâs reply is that Nikolas canât tell the police that; that he doesnât know what they were fighting about. Nik is getting angry now and tells Laura that she would let Stefan hang from the highest tree, rather than let the truth come out, because she knows that Luke would be asking her the same questions he is now. Nik tells her that Luke is the one person she will always protect. Laura looks at Nik, knowing he is right. -- Lukeâs office at the Club Bobbie is railing at Luke for endangering Lucasâs life by letting him be anywhere near Tony. Luke tries to reassure her that Lucas wasnât out of his sight for a second, but her reply is that Carly only looked away for a minute and then Michael was gone. Luke tries to explain to Bobbie that Tony did not want to kidnap Lucas, he just wanted to see him. Bobbie is really upset now and demands to know how he can know Tony better than her, after she spent 8 years living and working with him. She asks him angrily, what if he had been wrong and Lucas was kidnapped by Tony - would he have lied about it and said that he was dead, since it worked on her once before... Luke looks at her, guilt visible on his face. He tells her he needs help figuring out the groveling factor. Bobbie goes on about how lying to her about Carly was unforgivable, but that this was worse because it doesnât make any sense. Luke pours himself a drink [a brandy??]. Bobbie shows Luke a photo of his family [taken shortly after Lulu was born] and asks him if he recognizes the people in the photograph. She says: ăThey used to be your family. You used to care about them. Me too.ä Luke looks at the photo, then puts it face down on his desk. Bobbie tells him that they were the kids who didnât have anyone; that he made it his job to protect her and she goes on to say that , as wrong as it was, she knew that is what he was doing when he told her that her daughter had died. As she is talking Luke turns away from Bobbie. Bobbie is getting more upset and she tells him that this [Tony seeing Lucas] had only two possible outcomes, either she could have lost her son forever or Lukâs actions would have forced her to banish him from her home and wash her hands of him forever. She ponders his motivations - is that what he had in mind --- the last dance at Lukeâs big self-destruct party. He would have then succeeded at being rejected by everyone but the dog. Luke tells Bobbie that she should save the insight things for her patients. He says: ă As long as Iâve known you, you and Laura have been tugging at my shirttails, pulling me back from the point of no return..well, if Iâve finally reached that point, do yourself a favor and cut me loose, let me go, say good-bye.ä Luke then takes another drink. -- At the park, by the fountain Liz is standing by the fountain, waiting for Mr. Murty to show up. Lucky is hiding in the bushes with a baseball bat. As Liz sits down on one of the benches, Lucky is surprised in the bushes by a cop. Then, a car alarm goes off in the distance, startling Liz. She looks into the distance and sees a hazy Mr. Murty coming toward her. Her mind goes back to the night she was raped - itâs as if she is reliving it again. The cop decides to haul Lucky off to the police station, because maybe if they do it enough his parents will step and take responsibility for him. As he is getting dragged away by the cop, he yells to Elizabeth to get out of the park, but she doesnât hear him. Murty asks her why she asked to meet him, that itâs not really about the final. While he is talking to her, her mind is going back to the night she was raped - she doesnât hear anything he is saying. She just stares at him, fear and panic in her eyes. The only thing she can manage to say is: ăI canât do thisä and then runs into the bushes looking for Lucky, wondering where he could be. She then runs out of the park, leaving Mr. Murty standing there, confused. -- PCPD A cop is leading Lucky into the station to talk with Taggert. Taggert tells Lucky to sit down, but Lucky demands that he send someone to check on Liz in the park. Taggert wonders what Liz and the baseball bat could have in common and Lucky is furious at this point. He yells that she is out there alone and that he told her he would protect her. Taggert tells him again to sit down and when Lucky tries to get up to leave the other cop forces him back into the chair. Taggert insists that he can keep him at the station. Lucky is seething and distraught over what could be happening to Liz in the park. -- Hardy house Liz makes it home, hurriedly opens the door, gets inside, locks the door and runs to the safety of the sofa, rolling up in a ball. She lays down, breathing heavily. She is still visibly afraid after facing Murty alone. -- Spencer house Laura tells Nik that he doesnât understand her relationship with Luke. He retorts that this is an understatement, but not important. Laura thinks that maybe it is important for him to understand, since it is hard enough on her that Lucky is questioning Luke and Lauraâs relationship. Laura tells Nik that he hasnât even had the chance to know her husband. She does realize that Luke has treated him ăabominablyä and she says she wonât make excuses for him. Nikâs retort is of course she will, she has.. Laura then looks up apologetically at Nik. Nik continues: ăSometime I think I feel about this house the same way Lucky thinks of my house back in Greece - that you are a prisoner here. If you want to tell me about Luke, then maybe you should.ä Laura explains to Nik that Luke knows her and understands her - the good and the bad - but that she always lets the bad surprise him. She tells him that Luke is not a selfless person, but that he always thinks of her first, because he never thought that he would have a family, a wife and kids, so he never takes them for granted. She goes on to say that that one night, 20 years ago, was just one night and she doesnât punish him for it, doesnât throw it back in his face. She admits that she wasnât blameless and that Luke knows this too, but would never say it, even in his own defense. She admits that he did hurt her, but he was sorry and she forgave him, because she knew that she loved him anyway and she wanted them to move on with their lives. At this point Nik is visibly upset, tears welling up in his eyes. Laura asks him is he understands what she is saying and he replies that the only crimes that are unforgiven are the crimes of the Cassidines and thatâs him. That is why he is the Îotherâ child and they are her real family. Laura looks at Nik in shock. Nik continues: ăIf I can accept it, why canât you? I mean, thatâs what you have been saying all along about Luke.ä The phone rings, interrupting them. It is the PCPD telling her that Lucky was picked up in the park and that she needs to come get him. She asks Nik to stay with Lulu until she returns. Nik is a bit peeved at her request and replies: ăwhich one of your boys are the police entertaining today?ä Laura tells him that she doesnât consider their conversation to be over. Nik agrees to stay with Lulu and as Laura is leaving, Nik says: ăgo, go be with your Îfamilyâ.ä The hurt Nik feels is written all over his face, but it is not apparent if Laura realizes how much this really hurts him . She rushes out the door to bail out Lucky. --Theatre in NYC Jax and Brenda are sitting at their table, dinner has just finished. Brenda looks as if she is a million miles away and Jax asks her what she is thinking about. She tells him that she is remembering back to when she was little girl, how she was so self-conscious and she always thought that it was because there was something really wrong with her. She admits that she now knows it was because her dad was so disapproving of her and having a gorgeous sister didnât help. She really opens up to him, admitting that she would almost feel physical pain if someone looked at her. She felt that she had no skin, was totally exposed. So she would ăborrowä someone elseâs skin - like a character from a movie or play or from a book. She tells Jax how she would sit in her room and memorize monologues and shine a flashlight on herself like a spotlight and she would practice and practice. When she felt like she had the character down, she should take her downstairs with her to breakfast or to school or to her fatherâs study - that way everyone would be looking at the character and not at her. She could stay safe and invisible this way. Jax just smiles at her. -- PCPD Lucky is now handcuffed to a chair, the look on his face is one fear and dread. It is obvious that he is worrying about Liz and the fact that he isnât there to protect her from Murty, like he said he would. Lucky comes out of his daze when Taggert tells him that he sent a unit to the park to check on Liz and she wasnât there. Now the look on his face is even more scared and really worried that Murty has done something to Liz. At this point, Laura walks in, sees Lucky handcuffed to the chair and questions Taggert about it. Taggert asks her snidely whether she was dead or in Switzerland this whole time. Laura ignores Taggertâs remark and tells him to release Lucky. Taggert tells her that it will cost $100 since Lucky wasnât very cooperative and they issued him a citation. Laura agrees to pay and Taggert takes the handcuffs off of Lucky, telling Laura that she should consider investing in a pair to keep Lucky at home. Laura gives Taggert a nasty stare at this remark and then Lucky jumps up to leave. As Laura tries to stop him, Lucky tells her that Liz may be in trouble; that unlike her, Liz wants to punish the guy who raped her. Lucky says this within earshot of Taggert and the other officers and Laura looks at them, clearly embarrassed. --Lukeâs office Luke is telling Bobbie that she wonât need a restraining order to keep him away from her and Lucas. Bobbie replies that he doesnât have to never darken her door.. Luke gives Bobbie a half-smile and she asks him who is doing this to him, Laura? Luke says that Laura isnât to blame. Bobbie is visibly worried about Luke now and wants to know why he is acting this way, trying to drive her out of his life, as if he is trying to erase himself from his own life as well...Luke interrupts her saying that she always said that he and Laura didnât belong together; Bobbie concedes that after all of this time, she might have been wrong. Luke asks her: ăbut what if you werenât? What if all of this time, itâs just been the quiet before the storm? And now the storm has hit. Maybe it would be been better to lose her then? Clean...ä Bobbie replies that now, two children later , it is a moot point. She tells him not to drink, as she removes the bottle of liquor from his desk. Bobbie leaves and Luke picks up the photo of his family and stares at it. -- Hardy house The doorbell rings, startling Liz who is still lying on the sofa. She is panicking, thinking that it may be Murty or ?? Lucky calls to her through the closed door. She hears his voice and runs to open the door. Lucky takes her into his arms, telling her he is sorry [for not being there], asking her if she is alright. Liz asks what happened to him, as he caresses her face. He tells her that, in the park while he was hiding in the bushes, a cop mistook him for a mugger and he didnât have time to think. Lucky asks her what Murty said to her and if he hurt her. Liz replies: ăNo..I donât know..I donât think so..ä They walk over to the sofa and sit down. Liz continues: ăThere was this noise in my head, like a big wave breaking, and I canât even tell you..what he told me. It was like someone took me and threw me backwards into that night - and I did what I couldnât do then - I ran...before I could find anything out. Iâm such a coward!ä Liz gets up from the sofa and starts walking away from Lucky, upset with herself. Lucky tells her: ă Iâm glad you ran..ä Liz turns to look at him. Lucky continues: ă Elizabeth, if anything had happened to you...anything...I...ä He takes her into his arms, as tears stream down his face and he holds her, saying: ă Iâm sorry...ä --Lukeâs office Luke is asleep in a chair [from too much drink?]. Laura walks in, waking him up. He asks her in a groggy voice if she has business there. She tells him about Lucky getting picked up by the cops in the park, that he had a baseball bat and the cops thought he was going to use it. Luke replies that there are plenty of people around who need a head bashing.. Laura asks him if he thinks he is funny. He is flustered and yells: ăWhat do you want me to do? Lay down laws that he wonât listen to? Assert authority that I donât have anymore? Maybe I should just hurt him - in a way he wonât recover...seemed to work with you?ä Laura looks at Luke, confused. She tells him she doesnât understand his what is happening between them. She does understand the fact that Luckyâs faith was shaken, his image of them tarnished, but she canât understand why it is affecting them, since they knew about it already - lived through it, recovered from it, put it behind them , loved each other in spite of it - why does it make a difference now?? Luke looks at Laura, distraught, asking her why she loves him. Laura can plainly see that he is drunk and tells him she doesnât want to talk to him when he is in this state. She then asks him if she has ever given him any doubt that she loves him, does he want her to believe that there is something wrong with the way she loves him? Luke lets out a wail and Laura tells him that he is punishing her - for forgiving him and she thinks that is the most unfair thing of all. Luke looks at her, shrugs his shoulders and takes another drink. Laura tells him to call her when he is sober and she walks out of his office, Luke looking sadly at her. --Theatre in NYC Jax takes Brendaâs hand and walks her to the center of the stage. She is now standing under a spotlight and Jax asks her to do one of the speeches she had memorized as a child. She tells him she canât remember any, that it has been years, but Jax knows that she hasnât really forgotten them - he wants to meet the lonely little girl that he keeps hearing about - she agrees to do one, as long as Jax promises not to watch her. She starts telling a story about a woman [she tells it in the first person] who is going to leave her home, take a bus or a plane and ends up in a house by the ocean. Brenda stops, saying that is all she can remember, but Jax presses her to tell him why this woman wants to leave and what does the woman think will happen? She continues the story, telling him that no one will miss her, for days probably, and it wonât matter because sheâll be all alone in the house on the beach and sheâll be free of everything - disappointment - and years will pass and she wonât even notice. There will be no pain to mark the time, only the books that she will read and the characters will be her only acquaintances. The womanâs hair will have turned white and she will have lines on her face. The townspeople wonât notice that she has become an old woman. Brenda touches her face and tears are welling up in Jaxâs eyes. Brenda continues, saying that one day the woman will wake up and wonât even remember why she left, wonât remember if she took a bus or a plane - sheâll wake up and believe that she has always been there and that will be the day [Brenda starts crying] when sheâll walk out onto the sand and step into the water and the waves will just boil around her, the water will be warm and theyâll carry her and sheâll leave again and this time it will be forever. As soon as she finishes her ăperformanceä, she starts laughing and Jax applauds. --Spencer house Lucky walks in the door, finding Nikolas playing with Lulu. He walks over to her and picks her up, asking how she is and telling her that he has missed her. Nikolas tells him that Laura just left and that it sounded like it had something to do with him. Lucky, still holding Lulu in his arms, replies that he saw and tells Lulu that mommy had to pay for his bad behavior. Putting Lulu down, he walks over to the table, takes money out of his pocked and put it on the table, telling Nikolas that he thought he would pay her back. Then Lucky asks Nik if he has moved into his room yet. Nik tells him that he doesnât want to fight with him. Lucky thinks Nik is paranoid and goes on about how, since Stefan could be in prison for a long time, Nik may need a new place to live. Nik retorts that it is because of Luke that Stefan is even in jail. Lucky pretends to be surprised: ă Really? My dad framed your uncle? Oh!ä Then he reverts back to his usual self and tells him: ăYou donât see me arguing , do you?ä Lucky tells Nik that his Sherlock Holmes routine is in vain, because charges donât stick to Luke. Nikolas then starts in on Lucky about Laura, wondering why Lucky is upset with Laura when it is Luke who raped her. Lucky wonders why Nikolas cares. Nik responds by saying: ă...youâre the one she picked, youâre the one she made room for in her life, [Lucky is giving him a steely glare at this point] but because sheâs not in excruciating pain, you want to hurt her, is that it..?ä Just then Laura walks in the door. Lucky hands her the money and walks out the door without a word. He stands out on the porch for a bit, taking in Nikolasâ words. Laura tells Nik that he can come back anytime he wants to visit Lulu or her. She has been trying to please everyone and it hasnât worked, so she decides she is going to please herself now. -- Theatre in NYC Brenda is still sitting on stage and Jax tells her she is in the wrong career. He tells her that she impressed him and she tells him that he impresses her every hour of every day. Jax then snaps his fingers and music starts to play. Jax walks toward the stage, pulls Brenda toward him and they begin to dance all around the stage. -- Spencer house The doorbell rings, Laura goes to answer it. Liz is at the door, but Laura doesnât know who she is. Laura asks her if she is looking for Lucky, she shakes her head and then tells her that she wouldnât say that Lucky is everything to her, even though it might be true; he is smart and generous and respectful and gentle and honest, etc. and that is how she knows that Laura is all of these things too. Laura asks Liz inside and Liz tells Laura that they have something in common - her last name and Lauraâs maiden name. Laura realizes who is standing before her and then Liz tells her that they have more than a last name in common. Laura reaches out to Liz and hugs her. -------- Liz tells Laura that she needed to be with someone she wouldnât have to explain to and that she has been thinking about her a lot. Laura admits that she has been thinking about Liz too. Laura tells Liz that Lucky talks about her in a way he has never talked about anyone before. Liz tells her that she couldnât have survived without him. Laura tells her that Lucky was very worried about her. Liz than tells Laura: ăSometimes I scare myself. I get so angry I could make someone bleed, I really could -- but then something will happen and...ä Laura asks her if something happened tonight. Liz admits that something happened that took her back into the night she was raped, hard and fast and she could barely breathe. She asks Laura: ă Has that ever happened to you?ä Laura looks at Liz with tears in her eyes and reaches out to hug Liz again. -- PCPD Stefanâs cell Stefan is lying down reading when Luke shows up. Luke asks him how he got Laura to hate him and Stefan replies that Laura doesnât hate him - she never has. Luke smiles at Stefan and walks out without a word. Stefan is left standing with a satisfied smile on his face. --Theatre in NYC Brenda and Jax are still dancing, then they start to kiss and continue kissing, until Brenda breaks away, telling Jax that he better watch out, they are in a public place. Jax replies that there isnât any public there. Then Jax tells Brenda that they need a line to bring down the curtain. Jax: ăTo be..ä Brenda: ă...or not to be..ä Jax: ă...horizontal.ä The curtain goes down and laughter erupts behind the curtain. the end
