GH: Update for May 5, 1998

AT RUBY'S DINER OR IS IT STILL CALLED KELLY'S?

Robin meets Nick for breakfast. They make small talk until Robin spies a
newspaper headline -- CRIME LORD AND MODEL IN PLANE CRASH! Nick comforts
Robin (I'm sorry but I can't tell if Robin is mourning her missing
boyfriend who could be dead or she broke a nail. I know she can do it!
Where's the emotion!) She asks Nick to drive her somewhere -- she's too
upset. (You could fool me)

AT THE Q MANSION

Edward is already moving in on Michael before he even knows if there's a
body. One of his cronies, Judge Carter, has signed a court order giving
him temporary custody. It's for Michael's own good. Edward doesn't think
the baby is safe in Jason's penthouse. Monica agrees. Until they know
what's going on, Michael belongs with them.

Emily is upset. She believes that Edward wants Jason to be dead so that he
can get his hands on Michael. She warns him that Jason will NOT be happy
when he gets back and finds out his son is in the mansion. AJ takes
Edward's side but Emily is not swayed. She believes Laticia loves Michael
and can take care of him until Jason returns. As far as she's concerned
it's just another kidnapping. Monica reasons that they have room and
people to take care of Michael and she's sure Jason would like it that she
(Emily) is right down the hall. AJ adds that it's only temporary and that
Michael will go home with Jason as soon as he returns. (Yeah right). Alan
walks in, in a daze almost. Edward heads off to pick up his prized heir.

Monica notices that Alan is walking around like a zombie and calls him on
it. Alan is just mourning his missing son. Monica tells him he can't
wallow in grief. Other people need him. She storms off. Alan swallows down
a drink, after taking a look at his empty pill bottle.

AT THE PSYCH WARD

Carly is surprised when Bobby comes for a visit. As she tells Bobby that
Michael will be ok as long as he has Jason, Bobby has to tell her that
Jason's plane fell off radar and he is missing. Bobby tries to put on a
positive spin, pointing out that he may have survived as no crash site has
been found yet. Carly (in dramatic fashion and very effective) reacts
emotionally to the news. She cries and laments, "Not Jason." Carly looks
shell shocked and more than a little lost as Bobby puts her arms around her
in comfort. (Now SHE is in mourning!)

Bobby tries to give her hope. Carly takes comfort from the fact that
Brenda was on the plane with Jason otherwise everybody would just leave
Jason out there to rot. She talks about how Jason is her everything- the
only friend she ever had. He never judged her; he gave her everything she
needed. She was happy that Jason was the father because she knew Jason
would never teach her son to be ashamed of her. Carly's worries move to
Michael. What will happen to him? She wants to see him. But Bobby has
already petitioned for her to see Michael. It was rejected. Carly knows
the Quartermaines will used this opportunity to take Michael. Bobby
believes they are too upset about Jason to move in on Michael now but Carly
knows better. She wants Bobby to help her stop the Quartermaines from
taking her son.

Bobby calls the penthouse and reports that everything is fine with Michael
- the Q's haven't even called. Bobby assures her that if Jason is gone
then she'll be there for Michael - he can live with her and she won't let
the Q's cut Michael out of Carly's life. Besides, Bobby again assures her,
Edward is a lone wolf in that family. Monica would never let Edward file
for custody. (Poor Bobby, will she ever learn).

Carly wants to appoint Bobby as Michael's guardian but Bobby doesn't want
to scoop down on Michael while Jason is only missing. She seems to
understand that doing that would alienate him. But Carly thinks Jason
would appreciate her protecting Michael from the Q's. Carly worries that
Bobby just has second thoughts about keeping her son. Bobby, just thinks
Michael should be in familiar surroundings until they know for certain what
has happened to Jason. Bobby tells her that the important thing is to
work on getting home to her son.

Carly thanks Bobby for coming up to tell her about Jason.

Carly: He's the only person that ever stood by me, until you.

Carly asks Bobby is she will come back tomorrow to visit her. "Count on
it." Bobby tells her.

In The Mountains

Jack and Rose.... uh Jason and Brenda survive their water logged adventure.
They wake up on dry land. Their supplies are soaked through -- all but the
map, it looks pretty dry. Brenda "mourns" for the pilots kids while Jason
thinks only of survival...and thus their argu-fest begins. Of course,
Jason, the mobster has no feelings about the dead pilot, Brenda babbles.
Jason just wants to figure a way out. He wants Brenda to look at the map.
It's Greek to him, he can't read it. Brenda wants to sit and wait for Jax
to come find them.

Brenda can't read a map any better than Jason (and she doesn't have brain
damage as an excuse). She knows they're near a lake. A plane flies over
head..she wants a flare. Jason tells her not to waste it... it's a
passenger jet, too high to spot the flare...besides the flares are all wet.
So Brenda goes back to Plan A. Sit and wait for Jax. Jason is already sick
of her - he doesn't want to sit and wait for Jax when an interstate could
be only miles away. He's not waiting since he knows the Q's are already
moving in on Jason. Brenda tries o read the map, and figures out they MAY
be sixty miles from safety. Jason wants to walk. She still likes Plan A.
Jason wins. They decide North is the way they want to go.

Brenda: It's the morning. The sun rises in the east, sets in the west.
(Pointing) This is North. (Turns around looking confused and as if to
reassure herself...) This is North! (OK I admit it. I wouldn't know which
way was north either).

Later, Brenda sees a berry on a tree and wants to eat it. Jason won't let
her. It could be poisonous.

Brenda: Ooh, you trying to save my life.
Jason: You're the only one who can read a map - - - Which way?
Brenda: North!

Jason goes off on a scouting expedition. Brenda follows. They argue over
who will carry the bag and she - YES FOLKS - she falls down this teeeny
hill that tries to pass as a steep scary cliff. Moments of suspense (LOL)
as Brenda holds on to a root to keep from sliding down the slippery slope
and Jason desperately tries to save her. She screams. He pulls. She
collapses in his arms. She's saved! I'm so relieved!

Brenda has fallen and now she can't get up. She's re-injured her hip and
is in pain. There's pain pills in the emergency kit. A search plane flies
over head and Jason frantically tries to light a flare. But they're still
all wet. It passes. Jason wants to keep walking. He has no choice but to
carry her.

Jason: Ok which way?
Brenda: North!

LOL

(As silly as some of this was, Brenda was far more tolerable than she has
been lately. And no Jax!)

AT THE PENTHOUSE:

Edward arrives with his court order to get Michael. Justus is there and
tears it up. But Edward knows that isn't the last word. He storms off.
Monica stays and wants to see Michael.

Monica is pleading her case to Justus. She believes Michael would be better
off at the Quartermaines. She doesn't care about Edward's agenda, just
Michael and she thinks it best he come there. And she hopes Laticia will
come too.

Robin arrives at Jason's. She and Monica exchange well wishes. Robin
wants to see Michael and explain why his father isn't there. (Queen of the
manor! Carly would have a fit!). Justus thinks Nick needs to get Robin
out of there before she has to witness Michael being snatched from his home
by Edward Quartermaine.

AT THE Q MANSION

Emily and Jason are rooting through the Q toy collection when Alan comes
in. When he sees a stuffed bear that Jason used to play with, his sadness
overwhelms him. He calls the pharmacy and fills a prescription for
hydrocodone for a "patient." He ups the dosage for the "patient" in a lot
of pain.

Emily is worried about Alan. She thinks he's been drinking a lot lately.
She also notices that he gets angry for no reason and warns AJ against
saying anything to Alan about it. Emily leaves, leaving AJ and Alan alone.
AJ recalls how he had washed his hands of Jason when Michael was born. He
was tired of wondering if he was as good as Jason...and although he has
come to grips with that issue he hasn't gotten over missing Jason.

The delivery guy shows up with Alan's prescription. Em wants to know why
he has "Ms. Shotlands's" pills? Alan tells Em that the messenger made a
mistake but he'll take care of it.
Em thinks he's wonderful - a great doctor. Alan goes upstairs, pills in hand.

Monica and Justus have apparently come to some kind of agreement about
Michael but Edward arrives with Taggart and Dara. Edward says he's in no
position to negotiate. He wants the baby now. Justus cancels the agreement
with Monica but Taggart is there to enforce the court order. And Dara the
parrot mimics him. (Uh, why is she there). When Justus doesn't budge,
he's placed under arrest! (Oh yeah Edward, when Jason gets back you'll
really have generous visitation rights!) Edward demands to Laticia that
she hand over the baby. Michael, on cue, cries when Edward takes him...
Edward now has him, free to raise him so well like he did the rest of his
brood.
