This black border indicates I'm in mourning for the soon-to-be

loss of my fave character <sniffle> Keesha Ward.

This update is dedicated to Senait Ashenafi.

General Hospital Update for Monday 4/28/98--

An angry crowd mills about the courtroom. A shot rings out.

Someone falls...

But let's back up. In the courtroom, Tony's sentence has been

announced--one year of community service. The on-lookers gasp

in shock and react angrily. Robin and Felicia, Tony's sole

supporters, embrace but do not rejoice. Carly shakes her head in

outraged disbelief, tears glinting in her eyes. As Tony stands,

he can't resist giving her an exultant smirk. Carly raises

herself from her seat and heads toward him--Taggart steps in

front of her, holding her back.

"Taggart!" Mac calls out, causing the man to turn. Carly

grabs the gun from Tagg's holster, pulls it out and shoots. Tony

falls. Alexis and Monica rush to him, ripping open his shirt to

tend his wound. Jason grabs Carly's hand. She grips the gun in

shock.

"They were going to let him go, Jason." "Let go, Carly," he

tells her. "Let go of the gun." He pulls it from her hand.

Mac takes charge and clears the room. "Bobbie, I need you

now!" Monica shouts. Bobbie hesitates, then joins Monica, kneeling

over Tony's form. Alexis steps back, staring at the blood on her

hands.

Mac's first act as commisioner is to put all the Black folks in

their place (or did the writers do that?) He dresses down Tagg

for being careless with his gun, then gets on Dara's case for

letting Tony off so easy. Jason warns Carly to say nothing until

they talk to Justus. Bobbie asks Jason to look after her daughter.

Carly, in shock, murmurs that she must get home--she told

Michael that she would put him down for his nap. "I Promised him,

Jason, I promised..."

Justus suggests cooperation with the police. Mac asks Carly to

stand as he places her under arrest. Carly cries "no" hysterically.

Justus and Dara confer. Out of guilt, she treats him coldly,

informs him to call her "counselor", and tells him that all will

be done by the book--no special treatment. No bending the rules.

Dara and Alexis exchange a look that recognizes their mutual

guilt and self-blame.

Jason tells Carly to stay strong as Mac mirandizes her. Tagg

sticks it to Alexis for helping get a kidnapper off. She gets

him back with a dig that it was *his* gun that fired the shot.

Well, Tagg remarks, at least his part in the incident was not

purposeful.

The Qs mill about in the hallway. AJ angrily can understand

what motivated Carly--if anyone stole *his* child, he can't say

what he'd do! Ed thinks they should strike while the proverbial

iron is hot and make their move to take custody of Michael. Em

and Ned pledge their determination to undermine any such effort.

Robin overhears and of course has to interfere and tell everyone

what a wonderful father Jason is.

As Alexis leaves the courtroom Ned and Ed both take turns

berating her. HEr career is over at ELQ. Alexis barely pauses

as she hurries to the ladies' room, where she collapses in tears.

  At General Hospital--

Felicia has come to the hospital and waits by herself for news

of Tony. Alan enters and can only tell her that Tony's in

surgery. Fil remembers being in the waiting room four years ago,

when Tony made the most generous sacrifce that she ever experienced--

donating BJ's heart to Maxie. She can't believe that no one is

waiting for him now but her.

Alan tells her that he stopped caring about Tony when he turned

a gun on Alan's son. A teary Felicia can only remember good

things about Tony. What a great uncle to her kids, what a good

brother in law to her--she hopes that someday she'll see that

side of Tony again.

Alan's not sure about that. Losing a child is something you can

never get over. It changes you--like a light going out. No matter

how you try to fill the emptiness--with work, attention to other

children--nothing ever makes the pain go away.

All the same, Alan decides to wait with Felicia. After all,

Tony was once his best friend.

(I thought this scene was beautifully performed by both

actors. The quietest, but IMO the best scene of the show.)

Monica and Bobbie emerge from OR. Tony is doing fine. The Qs

have other business to attend to. Fil and Bobbie are left alone.

How's Bobbie doing? All right. She accomplished what she set out

to do--saving Tony's life. But she did not do it for Tony's

sake.

  The Outback--

Liz has been cornered into sitting with Mr. Murty, but she is

very nervous, trying to hide it. He sees her discomfort and offers

a sympathetic ear. Liz knocks over a glass of water and in the

flurry of cleaning it up, snatches and hides Murty's handkerchief.

She quickly makes up an excuse to get away.

Bren rushes in an demands to speak to Jax alone--she acts

pissed that he's still interfering in her life, but when Jerry

vamooses, she tells Jax the real deal--that Jerry was responsible

for the attempt on his life.

Jax explains the *real* real deal--that he and Jer conspired

for Jax to be the target (he thought) but Jer changed plans in

midstream. Jason was then Jer's target. Jason was supposed

be wounded so that the Jacks family could get more leverage on

the docks things. But boo-boos were made and Bren ended up

getting hurt. (Sorry if this is confusing, but I still don't

understand this whole deal.)

What is even more confusing is Bren's lack of reaction to all

this dirty dealing. Jax tells her that he has Jerry under control.

Bren tells him that she's responsible for Jax now that she saved

his life. (God help him!)

  Helena's yacht--

Helena spots the bug that Lucky has located, and she thinks he

planted it. She demands to know how many other are there. Luck's

pretty cool as he answers that he doesn't know. An extremely

pissed Hel orders her henchman to scour the place and dispose

of any transistors they find. While they're at it, dispose of

young Mr. Spencer as well.

At the same time, we see the earphone that Luke has been eavves-

dropping through dangling unused at the club, as Luke speeds away

to rescue his son.

The goon finds three bugs and Hel presses Lucky for the

rest of them. The kid has his father's foolhardiness--uh, that

is, gumption--and acts pretty cocky with Hel, considering his

life is at stake. If anything happens to him, his father will

see that Nikolas has an accident from which he will never recover.

Helena slaps him across the face. How *dare* he threaten her

grandson?

She looks up to see Luke pointing a gun at her. "Try that again...

I'll put a bullet in your face before you can lift your hand."

He disarms the goon as Hel congratulates him on using his son

as a spy. The two Spencers act as though that was the plan all

along. Hel smoothly offers Lucky his "payment" for his services--

a sealed envelope, which he picks up. Luke tells Helena that

he won't forget the slap she gave his son. "You know I won't."

He slips away.

The goon grovels for forgiveness, but Hel shushes him. Lucky

Spencer served his purpose. "And I've given him something to

remember me by."

On the docks, Lucky tells his dad that he no longer needs help.

Luke believes otherwise. Lucky opens the envelope to find photos

of Laura, post-rape and battered. He silently hands them to Luke.

"These are fake," Luke sputters. "The police never took

pictures of Laura. And she never looked like this."

"They may be fake," Lucky answers, "But what you did to her isn't."

For god's sake, can't Lucky see that Helena is playing him

like a violin? "I'm through with her," the boy responds. "And

with you."

"I'm your father, whether you like it or no." Luke grinds his

teeth. "You'll never be finished with me." He stalks off, taking

the photos with him.

End of show tidbits--

At the club, Luke throws down the photos and pours himself a

drink. The phone rings--it's Laura. He pretends everything's

just peachy.

At the docks, Liz finds Lucky. She tells him that she thinks

that Mr. Murty is the guy who raped her.

Jerry meets with the Mystery Guy again and promises him that

Jax will be no obstacle to their "plans".

CArly is taken away in handcuffs, but not before asking Jason

to "tell Michael I love him."

 The End!
