GH: Update for Tuesday, April 7, 1998

ON THE DOCKS
Katherine and Nicholas are waiting for Stefan so they can return to the
island. He's late. Katherine's nerves are frayed because of the
Spencer/Cassadine feud. Nick is cool - the feud is just business as usual
for him. Their conversation moves to Helena and what she could possibly
want with Lucky. Nick laughs off Helena and her latest bit of news...that
Stefan has a secret passion for Laura. Katherine doesn't find it funny.

By the time Stefan arrives, Katherine has already left which gives the
Cassadine men time to talk about relationships. Nick doesn't know how to
break off his relationship with Sarah - a relationship he thought was so
right. Stefan has some words of wisdom. "The thing to remember is that
when something ends, that doesn't mean it never should have been." Even
Stefan's marriage to Barbara had some value. What seems like a great match
could turn out to be a prison. And now clearly talking about his
relationship with Laura, Stefan tells Nick that "the most important
attachment of your life could well be one that ends, even in anger but the
one without which you cannot imagine your life at all."

LUKE'S CLUB
Luke, in a booze induced sleep, is asleep at his desk at the Club. Bobbie
wakes him and he wants to know what's on fire. "Only your life Luke," she
tells him. Home to Luke these days is only the place he hangs his
neuroses. Laura couldn't get anyone at the house so she called Bobbie.
Bobbie didn't give her any of the details of what's going on in Port
Charles but she thinks it's time Laura came home. Evidently Laura thinks
Luke is avoiding her but Bobbie thinks that perhaps Laura is the one that
doesn't want to come home. Luke wants to know if Bobby has a purpose for
coming around and bugging him. Actually she does. She's pissed that Luke
didn't handle the Tony matter for her. But Luke (after losing Lucky) knows
that a man isn't going to just sign away his rights as father.... or that
if he does it actually means he just stop being a father. But in true
Spencer bonding fashion, as mad as Bobbie is at Luke, she can't quite
figure out how to stop caring about him. Katherine interrupts their visit.
Bobby exits.

Katherine acts like she's calming the waters in the Cassadine/Spencer feud
but she's really on a fishing expedition - trying to ascertain where Laura
fits in the scheme of things. Luke suspects Count Vlad sent her over to
fish out Laura's zip code. Katherine replies that Stefan would never harm
Laura because Laura is the only (other) woman that Stefan has ever loved.
(Wonder how long she'll get to keep her room on the island when Stefan
finds out she's been passing his secrets on to Luke.) Luke did not know
this little tidbit of info and he doesn't seem to believe it until
Katherine tells him that Stefan admitted it to her. (Tony Geary is
marvelous. His expression changes just slightly but it speaks volumes!)
Luke gets rid of Katherine, no longer having fun with the game, and he
looks like someone who has just realized a big truth or that a whole bunch
of stuff suddenly makes sense.

AT POLICE HEADQUARTERS

Jason is being questioned by Garcia and Taggart when Carly comes in
protecting her territory (Jason), loudly. Garcia and Taggart picked Jason
up from the airport after he tried to skip town or so they think. Carly
informs them that it was she who was leaving town to settle her mom's
things, if they had only bothered to follow them inside the airport.
Carly, as Jason's "mouthpiece" demands he be released and she's not leaving
without him. Well she does leave but with the warning..."I'll be back!"

Dara comes in the room, offering Jason tea or coffee...Taggart wonders
what's up. He's trying to get Jason to talk and she's offering him almost
everything but a wet towelette. But Dara knows he had no call to haul
Jason down there and she wants to makes things a bit more comfortable
before Justus gets there. Taggart just wants to get Jason talking since
he's not "right" in the brain. Taggart believes that once he starts talking
he'll incriminate himself.

Justus (to Taggart and Garcia): You made good time from the airport but I
guess you can do that when you take a shortcut through the constitution. (LOL)

Jason pulls Carly aside and asks her to go the hospital to see Robin
(evidently Robin had called earlier but he'd gotten hauled in to the
station). Carly isn't thrilled but she puts on a happy face -- for him
she'll do anything.

Justus wants his client released -- Dara stands behind Taggart. Justus
wants to know what the charges are - driving while under investigation?
Taggart and Justus have a spitting contest over who respects Lady Justus
most. Jason is a punk to Taggart...but Justus doesn't think Jason should
be hauled in off the street every time something happens in Port Charles.
Bottom line - the police can't tie Jason to the strike or the shooting.
But somebody on the Q board meeting has informed Taggart that Jason cast
the only vote against the docks project so his suspicions continue. (Jax?
Edward? AJ?) Other proof, Jason has been seen with local union bosses.
Justus is sick of the weekly roundups and the harassment. Time for them to
stop. The tension escalates. Justus slaps a restraining order on Taggart
( and boy did he enjoy doing it). Taggart isn't impressed, and continues
"harassing" Jason.

ASSASSINATION CENTRAL AKA JAX'S PENTHOUSE

Brenda arrives at Jax's penthouse in time to witness the mop up of the
assassination plot (or round one of it). Jimmy, Mac, Felicia, V, along
with Mitch (Jax's "former" partner), Mitch's lawyer, and a tied up Tess
are all in Îlet's make a deal" mode. The scene is kinda surreal for
Brenda, especially taking in the double Macs. V (ROTFL - I LOVE this girl)
slaps a ÎHello I"M MAC' sticker on the real Mac and an "I'm NOT MAC"
sticker on Jimmy. In an airy breezy way Jax tells Brenda since she almost
got killed it was time to let her in on the happenings and what he's going
to do next- let them all go. Brenda's reaction to almost getting killed,
everybody keeping secrets from her while she was put in the direct line of
fire is to just smile. (And Robin should stay away from Jason because?)

Jax asks Jimmy if he's willing to take immunity for his testimony against
Tess and Mitch. A resounding YES from Jimmy. There's only one problem. He
doesn't know Mitch, and only slightly more about Tess. He only did it for
the money and assassination never came up. Mac is not feeling so
charitable towards Jimmy - he wants him to put away for a long time. But
Jax has other ideas and Felicia wants to hear him out. Jax wants to turn
the tables on his enemies to get what he wants. To Mitch, his partner in
the shipping lines who wanted to kill Jax for his half of that line now
must willingly hand over his half to Jax. According to Solomon, uh Jax, the
punishment for Mitch is that he will be poor - and that's hell on earth.
Felicia doesn't want to hand James over to the police. Jimmy is happy
about that! And Felicia thinks that if Jimmy is turned over to the police
then V will be in trouble for keeping him under wraps against his will for
the past two months (only two months - it has felt like an eternity). Mac
doesn't like it...but Jax promises to grant him a wish as well.

Did I miss something? This stuff is kinda choppy. Jax decides that Tess
will get two years for embezzling and Jimmy gets a two year sentence in a
Jacks oil fields -- Mac isn't happy about this. Jimmy is ecstatic..he even
gets a new face - the one he has hasn't helped in show business. So
everybody jumps to Jax's ridiculous beat. Tess gets taken away. Jimmy
apologizes to Felicia but he asks her to remember what it was like at the
beginning. He's the man Mac could never be - the Mac of her dreams.
(Felicia has to separate Mac's fist from Jimmy's face at this point). But
then she speaks her mind. Yes, for awhile she thought Mac had all his
rough spots smoothed out but she's not a goddess - she's a woman. She
doesn't want a dream Mac - she wants one who will be with her when she's
wide awake. She missed that Mac when he was gone and thought he was lost
from her forever. Jimmy tells Felicia very sincerely(and sweetly) he loves
her, but she's not buying it. "Nah, I don't think so. I just think you
loved yourself for loving me." She says goodbye. And one last shot from
Jimmy, "does this mean you won't write?"

And now it's Mac's turn. Jax will arrange for him to get his old job back
as Police Commissioner. The city fathers will be so eager to smooth
things over to keep Jax and his docks project that they'll do anything he
wants. Felicia doesn't think Mac wants to be PC but she's wrong.. Felicia
can't believe it.

Felicia: This job was, and I quote, the most frustrating experience of my
life. Give me a beer, end of quote.

But as frustrating as the job was, especially the way he got canned, it's
who he is - he realized that when Robin was missing. But he will go back
only under his own terms -- and the main one is that he can't be fired!

Mac is not satisfied with this ending. He doesn't trust Jax. He could
have set the whole thing up ...considering he did walked away with a whole
shipping fleet. Felicia gives him her blessing.

Felicia: Mac if you really want this horrible awful job back, you have my
vote. I think you're a just a wonderful man and I think anybody would be
lucky to have you -- have you work for them, I mean.

Now comes the hard part - how to let folks know they aren't getting
married. Mac will handle it. He'll take out an ad in the paper if he has
too. Felicia can't believe him - that he can't stand the indignity of
being engaged to her. She gives him a nice friendly choke! (These two are
great together - they truly are already an old married couple - now, why
can't they get a better story).

IN ROBIN'S HOSPITAL ROOM
Carly arrives at Robin's hospital room and tells her that Jason sent her.
Does she need anything? Robin was just making sure Jason was ok (after the
shooting). Carly is snippety - and jumps on Robin really quick assuming
that Robin believed Jason had something to do with the shooting. Looks
like she's "trying" to restrain herself, but after inquiring about Robin's
health, Carly wants to know why Robin didn't call the police or Jason once
she realized Tony had Michael. She says somewhat sarcastically (but
softly) if she thought she was just going to waltz in there and ask Tony
nicely to give Michael back and he would just do it? She instantly
apologizes, knowing she should be thanking her and then tries to make a
graceful exit. Robin stops her -- she has a message for Jason --
everything Carly said about her was true. She has come to realize that she
could have spared everyone hours of hell if she had only called Jason. She
didn't call Jason because she was afraid of what he might do to get
Michael back. Carly hopes she now knows that she is NOT Jason's mother, or
his guardian angel. Finally showing a bit of spunk, Robin lets Carly know
that she won't sit by and let Jason get hurt. That's just a lesson she will
never learn. As Carly exits Robin's room she runs into Bobbie. It's the
first time they've seen each other since the "mama" episode and it's a
little awkward. Carly explains that she was very emotional and she doesn't
want Bobbie to take things she said the wrong way. They agree to forget
about it..but they both clearly have mixed emotions.

IN THE JAIL CELL

Jason and Taggart are now in the same cell. Taggart finally gets Jason one
on one -- and he wants to deal. He wants the name of a dirty union
official or else he'll be hassling every body until he finds something,
then he changes tact. Taggart wants to know what Jason will give him to go
work for him.

It's a little game of cat and mouse - who'll blink first? Taggart
suggest he could be a dirty cop - he'd go on Jason's payroll and give him
advance warning when stuff is going down and of course it would mean that
Jason had something on him. Jason ain't buying it, besides trust is a
whole lot cheaper. They're speaking softly but these are high stakes.
Taggart knows Jason wants everything to run smoothly now that he's a father
-- and as for himself, well, his needs are simple.

Jason: What do you call simple?
Taggart: What are you offering?
Jason: I'm not offering.
Taggart: I heard an offer.
Jason: You heard wrong.
Taggart: You don't trust me.
Jason: You're lying.

I loved that exchange - and neither gave an inch. Garcia arrives and breaks
it up just as it's getting good. Jason wonders aloud why Taggart's pockets
weren't emptied like all the other prisoners. Taggart pulls out a tape
recorder as Jason looks on knowingly (not quite as stupid as Taggart
thinks). Explaining the recorder:

Taggart: I like music?
Jason: I don't sing.

Jason is free to go, NOT Taggart. Jason walks out of the cells, turns
slowly and winks at Taggart. He has just a hint of a smile on his face.
This round goes to Jason but Taggart gets an A for effort!

Carly is back at the station. She passes on Robin's apology. Carly still
wants to go to Florida..and when Jason realizes that he needs to put
distance between himself and the strike...he tells Justus that he's going
to Florida with Carly. Justus thanks Dara for expediting Jason's release
and for sitting on a rouge cop who is out of control.. Dara says (about
Taggert), "there's still a decent man in there some where (and she's
talking about Justus too as - she caresses his expensive suit coat) - he
just can't find him. It's really sad isn't it."

In his cell Taggart is doing sit ups (weeeeee owwww). Dara comes in, she
wants to "witness a moment in local history - something she can tell her
kids about. He hopes they look like her because he was really ugly as a
kid. She smiles. Sexy banter time... He asks her for lunch - brown bag it
with him in his cell.... Then he asks her if she liked what she saw - he
saw her checking him out when she walked in. He thought it might be worth a
couple of hours off his sentence. (Shaping up to be a very nice
triangle...and I hate triangles)

WRAP UP:
Brenda was quite impressed with Jax the operator. Small talk that just
means she wants Jax to marry her and she'll get her way sooner or later.

Katherine arrives at the docks...she has accomplished all she wanted to
...and more.

At the club, Luke listens to a ringing phone as he continues to drown
himself in booze and sneaking suspicions.
