Today's theme is about gambling and other games of chance:

1. Brenda gambles with Jax:

Somewhere in Not.Monte.Carlo, Brenda leads Jax into a private
casino where they meet up with their old friend Theo [Updater's
note: I have no idea how to spell this guy's name--which rhymes with
Day-O--and his accent holds no clue as to his country of origin
(although I suspect he lives one castle over from Count Chocula)
so I'll experiment with a variety of spellings and you can choose
which one you like best.] They reminisce about how Jax won
Kronos (or is it Chronos?) back from Teo the last time they
gambled together, but that, ironically, it's Jerry who visits the
island most often now.

Enter The World's Most Annoying Rich Lady: Winnie (or is that
Whinney? <eg>) Sutton, a/k/a Countess Shlep-er-Sheppington.
She's most likely from England, judging from her very bad
British accent. She wants to join in the card game, but
Thaao warns Brenda that the Countess plays for high stakes.
Brenda says that's okay, because she intends to win.

After Tay-oh and Jax bow out of the game, Winnie asks
(in a overly-loud headache-inducing voice) for takers on the
next round--Brenda accepts her challenge. "Unfortunately,"
Winnie shrieks (note to Winnie: Brenda is less than 5 feet
away from you...) "there is 4 times as much cash in the bank
as you have chips in front of you..." and she playfully suggests
Jax as a wager to even the ante. Brenda states that Jax isn't hers
to bet with, but Jax volunteers for the job. Brenda then says that
the money in the bank is not enough to wager against Jax, so
Winnie throws in her ruby bracelet and they call it an even ante.

Jax offers to deal the cards, and in the most predictable,
anticlimactic moment since Dec 8th: Brenda wins.

2. Bobbie hedges her bets with Lucky:

Bobbie descends to the Brownstone basement and says to an
unseen Lucky that she knows he's staying down there, and if he
wants to sleep in a real bed to let her know. She leaves some
food money out for him and turns to leave, just as Lucky
comes out of hiding. Bobbie says he's welcome to stay and
that she agrees not discuss Luke.... but... she'd like to carefully
approach that topic one last time:

She reiterates that the rape happened to Laura and that she and
Luke were able to work through it. "So what?" Lucky responds.
He goes on to say that Bobbie was able to instantly forgive Luke
too when he lied to her about Carly. Bobbie counters: "When would you
have liked to have known? When you were six? Twelve?" Lucky
says that he would've at least liked to have known before Nik did; and
how for the last two years all he heard Luke talk about was how
Stavros raped Laura. Bobbie interjects that Luke is not Stavros.
Lucky agrees and adds: "Cassadine wasn't a hypocrite." Bobbie
says that he has a right to be angry, but not spiteful. Lucky repeats
that Luke should've owned up to it. "He'd still be sick, but at least
he wouldn't be a coward..."

Lucky turns to leave, as Bobbie says: "I know you think you lost
the father you adored and the family you believed in. Luke never
claimed to be perfect. You wanted him to be..." "I wanted him
to be honest," Lucky replies. Bobbie asks Lucky if he realizes
what Luke has been going through for the past 20 years: how he's
seen the worst of himself, and carries the fear of what he's capable
of with him. Lucky repeats that Luke raped a woman and got away
with it, and that Bobbie can't explain that away. Bobbie drops the
subject and extends her offer to have Lucky live at the Brownstone.
Lucky accepts.

3. Carly and Jason gamble on Taggert's good intentions:

Carly wakes up from a nap and tells Jason that she was dreaming
about Michael. She asks Jason if he dreams about Michael, and
Jason says that he does. Carly muses about how those dreams could
be messengers and that maybe it's Michael's way of telling them
that he's okay. Jason says that they're probably dreaming about him
because they want to see him. Carly responds: "It must be so
bleak living inside your head. You don't ever lie to yourself--or
make up things to make it okay, to pretend it's going to get better?"
Jason says that he can't make things up, and that he can only try
to do something about it... only he doesn't know what he can do
anymore.

They discuss how unfortunate it is that they don't even have a
picture of Michael to circulate in the community, because someone
might have seen the baby and not realized that it was him. Their
conversation segues briefly into how Carly is worried that she'll
eventually not be able to recognize him, just as Bobbie couldn't
recognize her. Jason decides to call Taggert and have him arrange
to have a sketch artist come over.

Taggert arrives with the artist and Dara. They have a brief
conversation about how, for now, Dara and Taggert will ignore
the fact that Jason's a racketeer and concentrate on the kidnapping.
Jason describes Michael to the sketch artist.

When the sketch is finished, Jason asks Carly to look at it, to
see if it's a good likeness, because it seems that Jason is
unable to read or draw maps... and drawings of that nature
are just meaningless lines on a page to him (hmmm... wasn't he
just looking at plans for Jax's dock renovation a couple of
weeks ago? He didn't have any trouble decipering those
'lines on the page'...) Carly adds a few finishing touches and
pronounces the sketch good.

Jason gets a call from Benny: Marino's 'made his move', he says
cryptically. Maybe he has Michael...

4. Nikolas calls Luke's bluff:

After Robin agrees to another lunch date, she leaves. Nik takes out
Laura's letter, just as Luke walks up behind him. Nik says: "If you're
here to threaten me, don't bother. I understand that I'm your enemy
and that you'd kill me without a second thought. The only reason
that you hesitate is because you know my Uncle would kill Lucky in
return." Luke insists that the park is a public place and that their
meeting was an accident.

Nik holds up Laura's note and comments on the lack of a return address.
He says it's better not being able to respond to her letters, because
he can't tell her that he almost died outside Luke's club and he
can't tell her that he told Lucky about Luke. "It must be difficult
for Laura," Nik says, "No matter what she does the people she loves
will always hate each other. Perhaps that's why she isn't here."
Luke says that Laura isn't here because her mother's mind was
destroyed by a Cassadine. Nik replies: "Oh, I know. You told me.
Why is it you can use my family's crimes against me, but you
expect me to keep your secrets?" Luke says that he didn't expect
Nik to keep secret a fact that he had no idea Nik was aware of.
Nik reponds by saying that his uncle had told him while trying to
explain the hold Luke had over Laura, how no matter what Luke
does to her, she'll choose Luke and Lucky over Nik every time. He
goes on to say that he understands why Luke despises him: Luke
thinks he's a child of rape and that reminds Luke of what he
did to Laura. Luke says that Nik is wrong: "You remind me of
nothing... apart from all the other Cassadines I've exterminated.
And if you remind me again, you just might join that hapless heap
of swarming insects..." And Nik interjects: "And Laura would
forgive that too..." and leaves.

Luke glances over to the bushes where Lizzie was found and
flashes back to Laura crawling by the fountain after he raped her...

5. Robin wagers that she knows Tony well enough to
rescue Michael without incident:

In a pre-Robin scene, we see Tony talking to Michael, ennumerating
his reasons for taking him away: Jason's a mob boss and Carly's
an unfit mother. He also says that he needs to move up his schedule
and take Michael out of town earlier than planned. He leaves to
call GH to get a doctor to substitute for him tonight, but not
before he turns on Michael's baby monitor.

Robin, armed with Tony's receipt for assorted baby items, appears
at the door to confront Tony with the information and talk him into
giving himself up.

Tony asks if she's told Jason that he kidnapped Michael. She says
no; she wanted to come to him first. Perhaps if Tony gives himself
up, she adds, he could get out of going to jail.

Tony reiterates his reasons for taking Michael and adds that Robin
should know how dangerous Jason's occupation is. He also points out
that Jason's incapable of forming a bond with anyone. Robin, of course,
disagrees with Tony's last statement. Tony says that he was his
doctor, and that Jason's emotional base was destroyed in the accident.
"Are you saying that Jason can't love Michael?" Robin asks. "He
can't," Tony replies. Robin disagrees and says that Jason loves Michael.

When Tony asks if Robin thinks that living in a bullet-proof mobster's
penthouse, surrounded by guards is a healthy environment, Robin
responds by saying that she was raised around guns and guards. And
while Tony agrees that Robin turned out well, he wouldn't wish her
childhood on anyone... and besides, he adds, Carly's a pathological
liar and Jason is amoral. Robin counters with the fact that Jason,
at least, doesn't try to justify what he knows is wrong... unlike
Tony, who kidnapped a child. "I saved a life," Tony says, and
goes on to describe how, for months, he watched Michael grow
inside of Carly and then watched him get taken away and put into
'that war zone'. He had to act. Robin says that she understands
that Tony had the best intentions, but that Michael is not Tony's
child and that she cannot leave him here with him. "I know..." Tony
says....

When Robin attempts to leave with Michael, Tony says he'll have to
lock her in Michael's room. And then, when he and the baby leave,
he'll call the police anonymously and have them rescue her. "You're
going to keep me prisoner?" Robin asks, and tries to talk him out of
it. Tony tells her not to worry, that he'll get her everything she needs,
and then he leaves her locked in the room...

Robin admits to Michael that she made a big mistake...

6. Lucky raises the stakes:

In an already much-talked-about, well-shot, well-played-out scene,
Luke walks into his club and offers to close up. The last employee
leaves. Luke takes a swig of whiskey and we hear 'Rise' start to play.
Lucky walks by without comment and leaves. Luke grabs a bat and
smashes the boombox... but the ruined CD continues to play a
fractured melody, as Luke smashes barstools, glasses, the bar,
and finally, his image in the mirror...
