From: kbarry@cts.com (Kate Barry) Subject: GH: Update Tuesday 10/21 Date: Thu, 23 Oct 1997 19:37:31 GMT Hasty GH Update: Tuesday 10/21 Bren/Julia Jax tricks Brenda and Julia into having breakfast together and beats a hasty retreat. The siblings have a powerhouse confrontation that your updater regrets being unable to transcribe for you. Brenda takes a stance so defensive as to be offensive, giving no benefit of any doubt to Julia's every move. They discuss their father and their history with glorious consistency, illuminating both of their sides realistically and believably. [Marcil, BTW, was awesome.] Julia admits that she was Daddy's chosen heir to his world, but explains that she never asked for it, and would trade it all in to have her sister back. She admits to never having defended Brenda or pointed out her strengths to Harlan, gaining a little headway with Brenda by her honesty. She tells Brenda that she envies her, asks how it feels and tells her to imagine a lifetime of that feeling. Julia mentions more than once how the tables have turned [Your updater speculates that it is suggested that Julia once loved Jax]. Julia sez that she admires and envies B for her fierce independence, how she always did everything her way, not caring what anyone said. Bren sez she always always cared. Brenda argues hotly every step of the way, flashing her anger, and needling Julia to be honest, which Julia obliges even to the point of telling B that yes, sometimes she did think she did stupid things. But J very persuasively tries to make B see that they're grown up now, and it's time to get over it. She tells her that she's worked through how Harlan had controlled her own life, and that he no longer does, but that now he indeed controls B's life. B blusters denial, which J stops with 2 words: Sonny Corinthos. "You know nothing about Sonny, and nothing about me!" J arcs a brow and proceeds to describe him to a tee: self-made man...worked his way to the top from nothing... piecing together an empire with bits and pieces of others'...secretive... his way or the highway, no questions asked...etc. etc... B is speechless for a moment with recognition. [For those who missed him, this was Harlan as well.] J tries to reassure B that the pattern isn't permanently self-defeating, that she has hope because of Jax. Julia being a very astute woman, she proceeds to list Jax's finer qualities, concluding that he's everything B could want, that she can't understand why she'd throw him over for that dog Sonny, and that it's only by miracle that Jax is still single. Brenda glowers over Julia's shoulder at Jax, who has been standing in the doorway long enough to overhear. Tony/Carly Tony checks out Carly's denial that she had a sonogram at Mercy by calling Sister Mary Margaret Marshmallow Magdelena who has no record of a Carly Roberts. Relieved and guilty, Tony makes plans to take Carly out to paint the town maroon. "Are you having an affair?" she quips. Meanwhile, she had been conferring with Laraine not 10 feet away from Sister MMMM about the best medical excuse to fool Tony into believing that she'd have to be out of town for a couple of months helping a friend while the baby was born. The two connivers stage an emergency call from the friend to Carly, and a new fraud commences. During these scenes, Amy gets in some good sarcastic banter with Carly, and Monica delivers a look to kill. Q Drug-addicted Alan, amped and euphoric from his recent scrip refill, showers Monica with rose petals and affection while laughing away at his jam-packed schedule. She and Lila are charmed and delighted, but Edward wants to know who the imposter is. Outside, Alan's hands shake and Emily gives him love, trust and hugs. Later she asks Monica, Queen of Denial, what's wrong with him and is put off. Em seems to recognise this scenario. At GH, Alan thanks Tony for the Rx and amidst forced pleasantries finagles 3 more refills. Jax/V After catching up on business, vigilant V picks up on Jax's worry and teases him about how he'll be blamed if the two sisters tear each other up. As usual, he'll admit nothing but his eyes say that she's hit her target and he dashes off homeward. -Kate 1/2 of the Tuesday update team
