Update for General Hospital for Monday 9/22/97--

Previously on GH: Sonny tells Jason he won't be going to the
church/
AJ informs Carly that he won't spill to
Tony--yet

GH gym--
AJ tells Carly that he's not trying to protect her, but he
does want to protect the baby . He doesn't want the child to be
a scapegoat to Tony's doubts. Carly tells him"You're not going
to believe this, AJ, but I've always known you're a good
person." AJ answers "Well, you;ve got some way of showing it."
He tells her that she's going to have to prove that the baby is
not his.
Carly tries to talk him out of amniocentesis--too risky to the
baby. He knows that--instead they will go for a sonogram to
pinpoint the time of conception. Carly panics. They can't do
it at GH, Tony will find out! She will have it done secretly at
a private clinic. Right, AJ scoffs--and who will perform the
procedure, Mick the bartender? He hangs tough and tells her
it's going to be his way. And she better not get any smart
ideas about eloping with Tony to some far-off destination.
Because Tony will find some very interesting news from AJ when
he goes to check his message machine.

Jax's hideaway (in Malibu?)--
V is a bit tipsy on champagne. As she almost stumbles, Jax
catches her in his arms. Oops, they are almost about to kiss,
but then back off. V admits that it's not the possible kiss
that bothers her, but the idea of being using as a means for Jax
to "get through his ex-wife's wedding day." Jax confides that
he loved Brenda, but he's learned that you can't make other
people's choices for them. V wonders why any woman who could
have him would choose to be with someone like Sonny Corinthos.
JAx avoids an answer and gazes moodily out the window.

The Church--
Brenda walks down the aisle to the tunes of "dum dum de dum"
(the wedding march) but it probably should be to "dum de dum
dum" (the Dragnet theme) or maybe a funeral dirge considering
what's about to happen. She is wearing her other-worldly "Sonny
is god" expression. At the altar she turns to look at her
groom. But it is Jason who stands there rather than Sonny.
Brenda's face falls. "Is he hurt?" she wants to know. "He's
fine," the great stone-face answers. But he's not here.
Meanwhile we see Sonny in his limo. He tells the driver to
turn back and park across from St. Timothy's church. "Just for
a minute."
Tears form in Brenda's eyes. The truth begins to sink in.
The guests look embarrassed and sad. They file out of the
church casting worried looks at Brenda. "Just as well," Edward
harrumphs to his son. "This doesn't make sense," a worried Mike
says to Lucy. "Why? Because your son is such a nice person?"
Lucy chokes out through her tears.
Mike insists there must be an explanation. His eyes are moist
too. "Is he coming back? Don't stand there like a stone!" he
shouts at Jason, standing there impasssively. Lila tries to
gather most of the guests and invite them back to her home. A
rainstorm begins. Mac gets off a good line about how a person
could starve going to Brenda's weddings. He and Felicia decide
to skip the Qs and go elsewhere for a snack.
Jason offers to take Brenda home. She doesn't want to go
home, she wants to get married. She starts to leave. "You
won't find him," Jason tells her. "I am so sick of your stone
face!" she cries. "I will not conduct my relationship with
Sonny through you."
"You don't have one [a relationship] anymore. That's what I'm
here to tell you."
Brenda hauls off and slaps him soundly. (Yesss!)
She knows that he knows what happened. She's going to wait at
the penthouse for Sonny--she doesn't care if it takes a month.
Jason tells her she can wait til the day she dies--Sonny is
never coming back (famous last words).
Brenda begs for an explanation. There must be a reason. Is
Sonny in danger? Is he waiting somewhere for her? She wants
Jason to tell her, exactly, what Sonny said.
Jason answers: "He said to tell you it was a great ride."

Outside, Sonny stands in the rain waiting for a glimpse of
Brenda.

At the Qs--
Lila tries to console Mike. Alan remarks upon Mike's
departure that there's a kind of humiliation that only a son can
bestow. AJ arrives--Lila summoned him--she's been worried about
him ever since their talk. AJ comforts her. She was the only
one who answered truthfully the questions that had been
troubling him for so long.
Keesha comes in and finds AJ alone. She admits that she
recently "lost her cool" with Carly. AJ's not upset--Carly
bounced back just fine.
Nearby, Bobbie's eyebrows fly upward at the sound of Carly's
name. She finds Alan and warns him that Carly's been spending a
lot of time with his number one son.
Meanwhile, Keesha asks AJ what gives with Carly. Did he give
her an ultimatum? She can't understand why he's reluctant to
blow the whistle on her, considering that everyone in his family
thinks the worst of him.
Alan steps into the room and demands to know what AJ knows
about Carly Roberts. After all, Tony is his closest friend and
has the right to know what his fiancee is up to.

Back at the church--
Brenda asks Jason what she should do now. In a really sad and
painful scene to watch, she gives up the one shred of dignity
she had and makes it clear that she would gladly crawl through
broken glass for a chance to beg Sonny to take her back.
Jason again says he'll bring her home. "Sonny is my home,"
the broken-down wreck replies. She marshals enough nerve to
tell him to go to hell, ordering Sonny's goons out of her way.
She stands at the doorway, rain sluicing down. "He always
leaves me standing in the rain." She collapses and Jason helps
her to a nearby chair.
Sonny watches as the church doors close--that is his last look
at Brenda.

--end of show--
