  General Hospital Update for Monday, August 25, 1997:

  Previously on GH--Carly knocks a drink out of AJ's hand/
                    Lizzie tells Lucky that Sarah is dating
Nik

  Ruby's Place:  LizzieBRAT gets snotty with Lucky, and he
tells her that she's a brat. (See, I'm not the only one who
thinks so!)He reveals that he and Nik are brothers, though he
hates Nik's guts.  Lizzie says she's sorry, she really didn't
know.  In her bassackward way she tries to comfort him as she
realizes how upset he is.  She tells him that Sarah always
falls for the jerks.
   Bobbie comes in and tries to talk to her nephew.  He tells
her he's not in a chatty mood.  Bobbie hits the nail on the
head when she guesses he's upset about Nik

  The Outback--
  AJ tells Carly that it's none of her business if he drinks.
He orders another, and she tells him that she won't let him
drink--it's her fault he's here, anyway.  If she hadn't sent
him to a bar that night, he never would have had that
"blackout".  AJ laughs bitterly--hasn't she heard that he's a
drunk?  The world is full of bars.  Carly asks why he's
feeling
sorry for himself.  AJ gets off his barstool and tells her
he's
going somewhere she won't be yapping at him.
  Dara comes in, nervous about her upcoming perfomrance.  Mac
encourages her and even gives her a good luck kiss (on the
cheek--bummer).  She sings a song with the refrain "Must be
an
angel watching over me".  V comes in during the song and sits
down.  Jax comes in a bit later, giving her a smile.  After
the
song, V tells him about her problems on the job front. As
they
talk, an altercation between waitress and bartender leaves
Mac
short one waitress.  Jax finagles a job for V.

  At the park--
  Nik and Sarah are just getting smoochy faced when Emily
bursts in on the scene. She's sorry, she didn't know anyone
was
there.  Nik sees she's about to burst into tears andtakes her
aside.  He urges her to talk to him--doesn't she realize that
he's her friend?
  She wishes that she could be strong like Nik--he'd never be
dumb enough to take drugs like she did.  Nik tells her that
she
is strong.  Sarah is impressed upon seeing how good Nik is
with
her.
  Nik calls the Qs, who have been having a meltdown over AJs
fall from grace and Emily's recent disappearance, and tells
them he is bringing Em home.
  When the three of them have left, AJ comes along and flops
onto a bench with a big bottle of vodka.  "Bombs away!" he
declares, but Carly stumbles upon him before he takes a
swallow.  "AJ, don't!"
  AJ is disgusted--just what does she get out of saving him,
anyway.  In a small voice, she answers "Forgiveness."
  She always wanted a nonjudgmental friend like him, and now
she feels that she has let him down.  She's not going to trun
away from him now.  They argue for a while, Carly pleads with
him, and finally, weeping, she takes the bottle from him and
throws it into the bushes.  They embrace and she leads him
away.
  Back at their building, AJ pauses outside his door.  What
did
he ever do to deserve a "guardian angel" like her?  After she
closes his door, she is intercepted by Mick the bartender.
Now
that he realizes he was helping to set up a Q, he feels their
original $100 agreement was too meager a sum.  He wants $500
by
tomorrow, or he'll go to the Quartermaines and spill the
beans.
