General Hospital Update for Monday 5/12

Flashback count for today's show: 3

At the top of the show, we are reminded that on Friday, Jax was
arrested at the airport for carrying drugs; and that Luke and
Stefan had a Mexican standoff in Switzerland, with Stef
cold-cocking Luke and taking off with the Faberge egg

Scene--Quartermaine mansion--Edward Q and Emily

It's late at night. Emily comes into the living room, looking
for something. Ed questions if she's come for a midnight snack,
as she ate only a few spoonfuls of rice at dinner. He's worries
about her, hopes she hasn't come down with that illness where
girls starve themselves. She assures him she's not anorexic.
She came down to find the book she's been reading--"War and
Peace". He's surprised that a girl her age would be reading such
a serious book.

Emily confesses: "I mostly skip the war parts."

Ed: "Why? They're the best part."

Ed tries to have a heart to heart with her. He admits that
when he's concerned about someone, he usually shows it by
bellowing orders. She apologizes for letting him and the family
down. He tells her that he doesn't want her to harm herself
anymore: "You make Monica and Alan's life miserable. They
deserve it." But she mustn't do anything to hurt herself.

Ed: "I always wanted a daughter like you...instead I got
Tracy." He tells her that when she came into his life, he felt
as though his dream had come true. He does not want to lose her.
Everyone makes imstakes, and encounters potholes in life. You
just have to learn how to deal with them.

  Emily: "What about grandmother?"

Ed: "*I* was her main pothole."

Emily: "Do you love anyone in this family besides
grandmother?"

He assures her that he loves his family, but doesn't tell
them, because he just assumes that they know. Edward realizes
that he may be gruff, but he confides :"I have come to love you
very much...there is a special place in my heart that is very
much your own."

The two of them cement their newfound closeness by raiding
cook's kitchen for a midnight snack.

(Editorial note--I thought this was the best part of the show.)

  Scene--GH Lobby--Jason and Dorman

Jason is on one of the pay phones to Robin. He tells her that
she was somehow set-up and that she must not go anywhere alone.
"Something bad is coming down here--I don't want you involved."
It seems as though Robin does not want him involved either
(though we can't hear her end of the conversation), because he
seems to be having a bit of an argument with her. When their
discussion concludes, Dorman comes over and gets in his face.
The hospital phones are for the use of patients and visitors.
"We can't have every degenerate coming in off the street and
using them to facilitate their love life..."

Jason tells him to call security if he doesn't like it. Dorman
asks if Jason is going to beat him up like he threatened to do in
the courtroom with he was "showing off for his mommy." Before
Jason can answer, his beeper goes off. "That's probably your
mommy calling you home to dinner. Run along like a good boy."

Jason leaves. Dorman lingers and we have our first flashback
of the show: he remembers how he bribed Jax's driver to hide a
packet of drugs in Jax's bag. The driver got $100,000 for
slipping th packet into Jax's carrying case. Dorman warned the
man to keep his mouth shut and disappear fast, if he knew what
was good for him.

Scene--the airport--Jax, Brenda, Sonny & Taggert

Jax is arrested by Federal agents for drug trafficking. A
packet of heroin was found in his overnight case. Jax swears to
them that it was a set-up, he had no knowledge of such a thing.
Brenda horns in with "Do you who this man is?" She assures the
cops that he is innocent, he is a respected businessman, etc.
When Brenda turns to Jax and blathers that she will take care of
things, blah, blah, he looks at her and Sonny coldly. (Yay,
Jax!)
The feds take Jax to a private room at the airport for further
discussion. Brenda turns to Sonny and asks "Did you have
anything to do with his arrest?" Sonny tells her he won't
answer--either she trusts him or she doesn't. She wants his
assurances.

Sonny accuses her of playing with him--straddling the fence.
(Yay, Sonny!) Why didn't she tell Jax the truth about their
love-making? Did it mean anything to her? She tells him it was
very important to her--but Jax did not want any confessions from
her. Sonny tells her that when she said she needed more space,
he believed that when she got herself together, she would begin
to let Jax down easily.

In the private room, the DEA agents grill Jax. His
import/export business would be the perfect cover for drug
running. He insists he is a legitimate businessman and wants to
know who tipped them off about drugs. That's who planted the
drugs, to set him up. "I have a suggestion--talk to Sonny
Corinthos." The feds pick up on this--what's the beef with him
and Sonny? They opine that someone in Jax's own organization
set him up, so he could take the fall and they could take over
his drug empire. He asks them to contact Mac, and they tell him
that local cops have no say in the matter--this is a federal
matter.

Back in the airport lobby, Taggert (still played by Real)
arrives on the scene. "Who are we planning to kill today, boys?"
He has a friend in the DEA who gave him the low-down. Imagine
finding Sonny Corinthos on the scene of a drug-bust, he quips.
Jason arrives. "And everywhere that Sonny would go, his lamb is
sure to show," Taggert remarks. Brenda tells T that no one will
tell her anything--can he help? They go off to get more info.

Jason and Sonny talk. He explains that he had to drop the
tail on Dorman because he got a call that Robin was in trouble.
He hurried to Connecticut to find it was all a set-up. Sonny's
pretty sure that Dorman's behind it, and the set-up of Jax.
Dorman was feeling the pressure from Sonny and Jason, so he used
Jax to deflect attention from himself. In planting the drugs on
Jax, he also incriminates Sonny, since everyone knows of the
rivalry between them. Jason is furious at Dorman for using
Robin, and tells Sonny that he wants to kill Dr. D. Sonny
promises that Dorman will pay, but first he must lead them to
his suppliers. Jason must hold back his anger for the time
being.

Taggert returns. Sonny takes him off to speak privately.
Sonny tells him that Jax is only a decoy. Taggert wonders if
Sonny set Jax up, to get rid of his romantic rival. Sonny tells
him to shut up. He knows who is behind the drugs and wants to
tell Taggert, as long as he can be sure that T will not screw it
up.

scene--Chalet in Switzerland--Luke, Laura and Stefan

Luke has been knocked out by Stefan and lies unconcious with
Laura kneeling near him. "Take your damn heirloom and get out!"
Stef warns her (in one of those famous cryptic Cassadine remarks)
that certain boundaries cannot be crossed. Stefan leaves with
the egg and Luke wakes up. Getting knocked out was not part of
the plan, but everything else worked out as the Spencers hoped.
Luke plans to follow Stef down the mountain to learn his plans
for the computer chip.

Laura: "If I asked you to let him go, would you? For me?"

She tells Luke that she's afraid they'll push him too far.
Luke tells her Stefan is weak, now, and on the run. They can't
let him get away now.

Stefan in running down the mountain path like his pants are
on fire and bashes into someone coming up the slope. He hurries
away without looking back as the mysterious pedestrian topples
over the edge of the cliff.

Luke comes along the path and hears someone crying for help.
The traveler is clinging to the cliff and begs Luke to help him.
Luke grabs his arm and tries to pull him up. During this, the
mysterious guy's knitted hat (which covered everything but his
eyes) gets pulled off and *Nik* is revealed! (Were you
shocked?) Luke is--and Nik asks "You sure you want to save the
bastard's life?"

For half a second Luke looks like he's tempted to let the kid
fall, but he pulls him up to safety. He demands to know why Nik
is here. Nik was worried about his Grandmother and his sister,
and wanted to make sure Stef didn't hurt them. Luke laughs
contemptuously. "You telling me you schlepped all the way up
here to save *my* family?"

Luke wants to know how Nik ended came a header over the cliff.
Nik *flashes back* (fb #2) to Stef knocking him down, but just
tells Luke that the path was slippery, etc. Luke tells him hail
and farewell, but Nik insists on checking on Lesley and Lulu
himself. Luke asks "What about the woman between those two
generations? Aren't you interested in her? What about
Laura--what about your mother?"

On his private jet (I guess) Stefan **flashes back** (fb #3)
to his moment of triumph at the chalet when he conked Luke. He
fondles the egg.

Back at the ranch, Luke and the kid return to the chalet.
Laura hears sounds and calls from the other room: "Luke, are
you back already?" She enters the front room, and looks at Nik
in surprise.
