                            GH Update for 04/18/97
                            By John R. Andrews, UIC

Scene 1
AJ slurps down another drink and jaws with the bartender about his lot in life.
Scene 2
Back at the Q's, Ned phones to police to look out for AJ then plans to search
himself. Before he leaves, he talks briefly to a bleary-eyed Emily, but as he
hits the door, he runs into Jax who demands to see him immediately.
Scene 3
In anger and frustration, Carly is on the verge of telling Tony that Bobbie is
her mother but can't do it. Instead, she rants on about Bobbie being a whore
who abandoned her child. Of course, Tony who is clueless about why she's so
rabidly anti-Bobbie reacts by calling her self-centered and threatening to
leave. After more arguing and mutual recriminations, Tony leaves to be with
Lucas, and Carly angrily shouts after him, but then decides to freshen up and
head out.
Scene 4
Jax tells Ned unless Ned acts now ELQ will be gone, so he relents and agrees to
talk to Jax as Emily listens in secretly. Jax tells him he wants his seat back
on the ELQ board or else he'll point out to the Feds that Ned's mother is now
the widow of a big-time mob member. This along with Sonny's reputation, he
says, will cause them to investigate ELQ and possibly invoke the RICO act.
When Ned calls his bluff saying he's got no proof, Jax produces an envelope.
Scene 5
Emily meets with the Matt-Hatter and spins her tale of Quartermain woe about
AJ, then she hits him up for a joint and a little "H".
Scene 6
Tony reads his spiteful spawn a story. The brat apologizes for yelling at Carly
and says he'll apologize to her too if Tony wants. After he heads to bed, Tom
shows up, and he and Tony discuss Carly a bit.
Scene 7
In the bar, AJ is still sucking them down when a very sexy looking Carly
saunters in (remember this is the bar below Jason's room) and flashes him a
smile [among other things]. She tells him she's looking for Jason; he says he
is too. AJ talks her into having a drink [not too difficult] at a table where
they flirt around shamelessly.
Scene 8
Tony explains to Tom about his fight with Carly. Tom says she is trying to
devalue Bobbie so Tony won't go back to her. Tony decides he has to see her and
apologize immediately, so he coerces Tom into babysitting Lucas.
Scene 9
Matt and Emily party with their friend Mary Jane. When he balks at giving her
some of the stuff which has been sweetened with PCP and heroin, she assures him
it's ok.
Scene 10
Back at the bar, the Lazy and the Tramp toss down a few more cocktails and
giggle up a storm. Eventually, he gets her to talk about Tony and lays down a
thick line before he kisses her like Tony wishes he could.
Scene 11
Emily displaying a barely adequate stereotypical stoned act sing-songs that she
can fly [I'm sorry, but I've never seen anyone act like that. Now, of course,
I'm not saying I ever smoked pot; in fact, not only didn't we inhale, we never
even lit it. We just walked around parties with joints hanging out of our
mouths.]
Scene 12
Ned reviews Jax's documents which he remarks are "vaguely incriminating". Ned
threatens to reveal the whole Miranda affair if Jax doesn't back off, but Jax
doesn't care.
Scene 13
Emily returns home, and Ned hears her saying she can fly. [What is she trying
out for a 5th Dimension comeback?]
Scene 14
AJ suggests a place very near by where they can be alone.
Scene 15
Emily, who is apparently studying Greek mythology, decides to act out the story
of Icarus' and Dedalus' escape from the tower; unfortunately, she seems
destined to play Icarus.
Scene 16
Tony returns to Carly's place, but unfortunately his little chickadee has flown
the coop.
Scene 17
Meanwhile, the errant Carly is lip-locked with AJ in Jason's room. After a few
minutes of petty passion, Carly pulls back and says she's not ready. AJ, the
sensitive new age guy that he is, replies, "That's all right, we have all
night."
Scene 18
Ned rushes upstairs and finds Emily about to take off without proper
authorization or plane for that matter. He tries desperately to reach her, but
she launches herself just as he approaches.

As I watched this scene, I kept flashing back to the following song.
Ok, so I changed it a little.

                         Up On the Roof
When the Quartermain world starts getting me down,
And the press are just too much for me to face,
I'll climb way up to the top of the stairs,
And all my cares just drift right into space.
On the roof, it's as peaceful as can be,
And there the world below won't bother me, no, no.

So when I come home after Matt and I meet,
I'll go up where the air is fresh and sweet,
I'll get far away from the hustling crowd,
And all the rat race noise down in PC.
On the roof, that's the only place I know,
Where you just have to wish to make it so.

Let's go up on the roof.

Slightly altered from Gerry Goffin & Carole King, 1962
