Subject: Sent: 2/5/97 9:14 AM From: Jan Yarnot, jyarnot@netcom.com UPDATE THURSDAY, JANUARY 30 THE CERTIFIABLE DOCTOR Robin comes to the Lighthouse to see Kevin. Lucy excuses herself and goes to the Outback, where Felicia is trying to do the books [and is upset about Tom, I think!] Lucy hopes that Felicia is relieved that Kevin won't be upstairs any more. She is. Lucy wants to start over, being friends. Felicia assures her they are friends, but "spare me the details" about Kevin. Lucy isn't satisfied, but she has to accept it. Robin talks to Kevin about the treatment. She's not sure she wants to worry all the time. She's not sure she can do it without Jason. She wants to be able to keep calling Kevin. They part with a hug. Lucy returns, and asks about Robin. The doorbell rings. It's a mail carrier, who has a certified letter for Dr. Kevin Collins. "Well, that's me, certifiable!" Turns out the Stefan Cassadine wants to hire Kevin as a personnel consultant for Cassadine, Inc. QUARTERMAINE FAMILY SOLIDARITY It is never satisfactorily explained to us why Alexis is at the airport, but there, indeed, she is, and sees Ned. She offers to drive him straight to court, where she will ask him to testify as a character witness for Monica. Ned responds: "Alexis, I'm a Quartermaine. Our skeletons rattle as we walk. I take it you didn't ask Monica?" Alexis gets the idea, and leaves for court. Meanwhile, at the Q's, Edward doesn't want to go. Alan asks why Emily isn't in school, and she claims to have a sore throat. Alan, however, is a doctor, and doesn't see anything. Since the trial could go on for weeks, Emily can't skip school. A.J. offers to drive her. Alan tells Edward he's going with or without him. He stops for a drink of juice, and Jason comes in. Jason asks a hypothetical question. What if he was HIV+ ? What would Alan recommend? Alan looks stricken, but tells him about the drug cocktail treatment. He's surprised that Jason really understands what he's been reading. "He knew how to read it before, didn't he?" "Who?" asks Alan. "Jason Quartermaine. He was pre-med, right?" Alan again looks stricken, but he finally understands. Keesha interrupts [her function of the day] and then goes off looking for A.J. Alan wants to know why Jason would want to wait 10 or 12 years for a cure that might never come. Then, fearfully, he asks if Jason has tested HIV+. Why didn't he just say it was about Robin? Well, Jason didn't figure he'd talk to him about a patient. Jason wants to know if he and Robin can ever have sex. Alan points out that no one can ever know enough, even if you know it all. He had tried to help when your mo- his wife got cancer. Jason says "It's so hard just to do nothing." Alan points out: "Well, it's what you ask of us." Jason thanks Alan and asks to use the phone. "Another request. Don't spoil me." Alan leaves for the courthouse, Jason makes his call. It's to Sonny. "We'll have to tell her now." They will meet in two hours at the bridge. He hangs up. Justus comes in. "Just leaving," Jason says. "Lucky you." Ned comes in. Justus says: "Ah, you're back. Burn a hole in that squash racket over there?" Ned is glad to see Justus, he wants to contribute to the rebuilding of Ward house. Justus is rightfully suspicious of Ned's motives. Ned wants to show Lois he's doing good. Edward comes in [I think he's due for a shock] and is delighted to hear there might be money in something. Again Edward puts off going to court. A.J. has had a convenient bout of "car trouble" and takes Emily to the Outback. He tells her he knows what school is like. Emily is dubious: "We should lie, ditch, and eat ice cream?" She asks why a bar. A.J., in deep denial, claims to have worked through all the AA stuff, and a drink or two occasionally doesn't hurt. Keesha comes in and interrupts [told you that was her job du jour!] Emily leaves and A.J. and Keesha talk about Jason. They finally leave for court as Jason comes in. A.J., who should be feeling guilty about his own disinterest, asks if Jason cares about his mother, and snarls off. Keesha decides to stay and confront Jason, she's way over him, he shouldn't expect her to scream and faint whenever she's around. [Where *does* she get these ideas?? This one was completely out of left field, as far as I could see!] Taggart, who appears to be following Jason, comes in and introduces himself to Felicia, the one he called by her first name last week. They talk about Mac. Robin comes in and gets Jason, and says goodbye to Felicia. Taggart watches them leave. So, finally at the Courthouse, where Monica pushes through the pushy PC press all on her own. Inside the courtroom, Dorman confronts her. "Did you ever think I'd make you famous?" She ripostes that it's quite the other way around, that no one would pay any attention to the little toad if it weren't for the Quartermaine name and fame. His lawyer comes in, but didn't, he says, see any violation of restraining order. Monica calls Alan, but he is talking to Jason, and she tells him to stay there. FINALLY Alexis arrives. Monica agrees that Ned would not be a good character witness. She tells Alexis about Dorman. "It is my goal to nail that smug smile right to the floor. Where's Alan?... The rest of your family? ... we're going to have to work on the Quartermaine show of solidarity." Monica has the Line of the Day: "Alexis, you are a lawyer, not a miracle worker!" Dorman's lawyer starts his presentation. The Quartermaines are powerful. He paints an ugly picture and Monica looks disbelieving. Alexis tells her: "They're just words, and they can't hurt you." Alexis says in her opening remarks that Dorman is a gambler, but he's neither lucky nor smart. Alan finally comes in. Pierce's lawyer calls him to the stand. Emily sneaks in. Dorman sees her and a smug smile plays across his face.
