Subject: Re: GH Update for Tuesday, 1/7/97 Sent: 1/9/97 1:58 PM From: wendy.doucette@octel.com GH Update for Tuesday, 1/7/97 Today's Show: "Weaving a Wondrous Web of Words" Appearing: Carly, Tony, Justus Edward, Ned, Alexis Emily, Creepy Drug Kid Monica, Alan, AJ, Keesha A Diatribe from the Scribe: Today's show contained something I've not seen in a long time: well-crafted, tightly-wrought scenes that flowed without awkward juxtaposition thanks to superb writing. No plot hinged on X gazing at Y upon emerging from the second-floor nurses' station elevator, nobody sat on the nurse's station couch, there was no montage of everyone in town staring out the window while music played in the foreground, there was *no* flashing back and nobody's presence was evoked by the mere mention of their name. Sheer bliss... At his and Carly's apartment, Tony rushes out on breakfast to see Justus about getting custody of Lucas. Yet again Tony leaves Carly in mid sentence, and this time she throws a fit, accompanied by a box of doughnuts, on the floor. Chez Q, Justus arrives per Edward's summons. Edward is delighted Ned has chosen to blackmail Jax in order to get him out of ELQ. Edward now hopes they can find something incriminating on Dorman. Emily's Creepy Drug Friend (hereafter Creepy Kid or Kid) pockets a fine cut-class bottle of the Q's liquor. Emily hides him behind a chair, and when Monica and Alan enter arguing, the kids sneak away unseen. Monica wants Jason back, and says his accident was the start of all the year's troubles. Monica [looking especially lovely lately, IMO] says she resents Alan for being Robin's doctor. With a bond like that, Jason can never cut Alan off entirely. Why is she the only one Jason shuns? Ned and Edward usher in Alexis to talk about Dorman. Justus meets with Tony in the other room. Justus asks Tony to write down chronologically everything that happened in Tony and Bobbie's relationship. At Jake's, Carly is looking for Jason. Two grungeoids playing pool give her the once-over, which she enjoys immensely. When she works the room with her bosom, swishing her hair walking over to the bar, they (surprise) follow her there, and tell a joke so tottering on the borderline of vulgarity I won't repeat it. Carly laughs. <opening credits roll> While one grungeoid is busy showing Carly the size of his "feet," Jason walks in. The grungeoids leave, and Jason, reading my mind, asks Carly how much trouble it takes to put on a bra. Carly says she was enjoying being noticed. AJ and Keesha show up for the Dorman meeting. Justus and Alexis trade intros. Edward says Lila is at the doctor's and has to miss the meeting. Emily slips out. On Emily's bed, Creepy Kid eats a big sandwich [I guess Cook allows take-out]. Kid says his family is all touchy-feely 90's, concerned about each other's "feelings." Kid pulls out a joint, and Emily blows away the smoke, saying it's too early. Kid says his parents don't care, and buy/give him everything. He turns on her stereo loud so Emily has to yell over it. Kid begins the process of taking her down the Bad Road. Alan, fed up with Dorman, wants him charged with assault for the bit in the parking garage. Alexis says she can't do it without evidence, but will try to get a restraining order processed. Edward wants to sue for defamation of Monica's character. AJ goes crazy, saying if they take the lead in a counter-suit, Monica will have to answer even more personal questions. Everyone shouts him down, and AJ and Alan square off. AJ wants to know why Alan isn't embarrassed about this, and Alan wants to know if AJ stole the vodka. Upstairs, Creepy drinks straight from the bottle, while Emily protests. He asks why the Q's have liquor out and how much they drink. Creepy says drinking is something friends do, and encourages Emily to try it. She recoils from the smell. In the downstairs foyer, Alan apologizes. AJ says he has no reason to stay sober. Ned begins to taunt him. [Ned is 100% jerk today]. Ned says Monica is crying in the other room and just told Alexis she wanted to resign from GH. Alan goes back inside, and Ned leans on AJ even harder, calling him selfish, the center of attention, and an alcoholic. Keesha defends AJ and says Ned is responsible for what happened today because of what he did to Jason a year ago. Ned gives AJ the eye. <ambulance races by> AJ is trying not to cry while Keesha keeps blaming Ned about Jason. Alexis listens in for a moment, then ducks back into the library. Ned holds it over AJ by *almost*, but not telling Keesha the truth. Ned leaves and AJ tells Keesha he hopes she'll never find out he's not worth defending. At Jake's, the bartendress gives Jason a stack of messages. Carly says she and Tony didn't fight, but Jason guesses better. Carly says she has to be patient, or she'll blow it with Tony. Carly blames Bobbie for torturing Tony with Lucas. When Jason says Bobbie isn't being unreasonable, Carly explodes. Alan finds Tony in the den and makes a dig about Tony and Bobbie breaking up their family. Alan says he's still got all his hair and most of his teeth, but he's lost his tact in middle age. Tony, on the other hand, woke up one morning and lost all his common sense. Tony says Alan sounds like him, a big know-it-all, a few years ago. [The Tony/Alan exchange here was delightful--just part of the excellent writing today]. Tony says Bobbie just wanted an imposing father-figure, and found one in Stefan. Tony says he's barely grown up himself [here my eyes nearly rolled out of my head]. Alan says he's tired of feeling like the adult watching the parade of young bodies (Carly and Dorman) enter into the lives of the people he loves most. Alan wanted Tony's confidence; Tony says he didn't give it because he knew how Alan would feel. Tony says Carly has no friends and he's lost most of his. Will Alan share his friendship with Carly? He'd better, because if it comes down to it, Tony will leave everyone for her. Alan: "Well, if you feel that way about it, bring the little homewrecker to dinner." [See what a classy guy Alan is, substituting "homewrecker" for "tramp"?] He and Tony smile. Back at Jake's, Carly asks: "Am I trashy?" Jason, maybe brain-damaged but no fool, says he doesn't know what "trashy" means. He does say that going out in your bar clothes means you're "looking." You should be able to be happy even when the Other isn't around. The grungeoids leave and Jason goes to work. Carly stays to finish her sandwich. Monica yells at Ned to leave AJ alone. Alexis got the retraining order signed. Ned tells Alexis about Jason's accident, and that he did it. He talks about what a cut-throat family he has. Alexis: "My uncles tried to freeze the world. Top that." She says that the Cassadines box up their problems and ship them away. Ned: "Not us. The Quartermaine motto is nobody gets out alive." Keesha can't take any more of Ned and leaves. She asks Justus if Ned has a secret he's saving, then says Justus is one of "them" now. Alan berates himself for not having stopped Dorman from hurting Monica. Monica says Alan is blaming everyone *but* her. Lovebirds, they head up to Emily's room. Both kids are drunk and Creepy grabs for Em's shirt. <grrrrr> Emily is throwing up in the bathroom when Monica opens the door to Em's room. AJ fondles a bottle of X and a glass from the ever-present dry bar downstairs. Carly leaves and she's (surprise again!) taken for a hooker by the grungeoids waiting out in the alley. [You'd think a former VR Trooper could kick a little a**, but Carly just waits to be saved. One big guess on who'll come to the rescue...] <the end>
