A Whining Update, Thursday December 19, 1996.

YOUNG FOLKS IN LOVE
Jason rants at Carly about Sonny's heroin overdose, angry he wasn't
there, feeling it's all his fault, how stupid Joseph was. He's unhappy
that he wasn't there for Sonny. He wants to call Robin. After the call,
Carly says his face changes when he talks to Robin, and he says "so does
yours, when you talk about Dr. Jones." [Fearless Updater whine: I like
Carly and Tony together, and think Bobbie SHOULD be out in the cold, but
I fear a B&T reconciliation is in the works and poor Carly (I know, I know,
but she's really in love with Tony) will be the suffering one.]

QUARTERMANIA
Justus is on the phone at the Q's doing business and Keesha comes in.
They discuss her decision to become a cop. Uncle Dave [Fearless Updater
whine #2: I wanted to SEE him!] actually is proud of her. And Justus?
He's losing his self-respect. Ned comes in, to overhear Keesha tell
Justus he doesn't belong at ELQ. Keesha confronts Ned about his attitude
about public service. They leave, and Ned sees Emily sitting out on the
porch. "When they find you frozen stiff out here, Grandmother's going to
be very upset." He asks if it's a "non-verbal protest, or were you
trying to get some fresh air?" She says it's both. She remembers that
Jason used to sit outside like that. "It's not the family, Ned, it's me.
I can't stop thinking things, like Lucky. I don't know where he is --
I want to call him or talk to him -- write him -- do something. I can't."
Ned certainly understands this. He tells her to "try to distract
yourself. Get through every day and pretty soon it will hurt less."
"When?" "I don't know." The phone rings and it's the press wanting a
comment about Sonny. Ned has no comment, but heads to the hospital,
where he finds out about Katherine's accident, and the writers drop it.

Keesha is annoyed that A.J. hasn't written her a recommendation for cop
school. They argue about this as a career choice. Yawn! Been there,
done that.

SIDAR, FOR A CHANGE [Fearless Updater Whine #3 - 300]
Taggart is questioning Sonny who is in his hospital bed. Taggart assures
Sonny they will send him to prison. Garcia's in L.A., but this would be
a great going-away gift. Sonny argues. He asks if there's a reason
Dara's there taking up space? She's assessing the case, she says, she
does't want to go to court with an unprovable case. [Uh-HUH. Unlike the
other times we've seen her in court? Has she actually learned
something?] Brenda is questioned. Dara finally listens and sends for a
sketch artist to draw the mystery woman who lured Sonny into ambush.
Alan doesn't know her.

Sonny complains to Brenda that "Mac put the only cop on the force who
hates me more than Garcia. I think my feelings are hurt." Jax peers in
at Sonny and Brenda.

WHO SHOT KATHERINE BELL?
Stefan is lurking at Katherine's bedside. She wakes up. He mutters a
tortured "hello." Nurse Laurie rushes in, asks Katherine if she knows
where she is, and goes for Alan. Alan chases Stefan out. Mac comes up
and asks Stefan why he was in the room. Bobbie comes up and asks what's
up. Mac announces he will make whoever did it pay.

Mac goes in to see Katherine and apologizes for being an insensitive
slob. [Not that that will stop him in the future.] Meanwhile, Alan and
Stefan discuss the case. Alan gets beeped so Stefan goes to the window
and watches Katherine. Nik sees them, and is glad to know she's awake.
Nik and Stefan talk, and Stefan assures Nik he did NOT kill Laura.

Mac questions Stefan and Alexis. Nik rages off, saying they should blame
Luke. Mac explains: "I have an APB out on Luke Spencer. When he's
found, he'll be arrested, and if he's found guilty, he'll be prosecuted."
Gotta love Port Charles Law Enforcement! Later, Mac is with Katherine, and
Stefan watches through the window, Nik watches Stefan, Alexis watches Nik.
Layers upon layers of Cassadines. Stefan tells Alexis he may need an
attorney.

THOSE INSIDIOUS CASSADINES!
Felicia is standing around and Tom comes up and asks why she is at the
hospital. She's waiting for Mac. He is investigating. "Since when are
you defending Luke and Sonny?" "Since Stefan Cassadine showed up.
They're the lesser of two evils." They discuss Stefan as the possible
source of Sonny's attack. Tom says if it weren't for the Cassadines,
"Laura would be here, and so would my father." Bobbie comes up and tells
Felicia that Katherine is awake. Tom is paged. Felicia and Bobbie agree
that "Luke wouldn't fire a gun without knowing who he was aiming for."
[Since when? OUR Luke?]

Mac talks to Tom and Felicia. She promises to help with the investigation.
[Whew! Stefan is safe now!]

TELL HER SOMETHING NICE
Lucy and Kevin are also waiting for news of Katherine. Lucy babbles: "I
hate this waiting. Like time out of time. Nothing gets accomplished,
you know, especially in a hospital. I mean, look at this place, this
light makes you feel so ugly, and all you hear is people saying 'shush'
and the squeak of cart wheels and these magazines are all out of date I
HATE this!" Kevin asks if she wants to go home. "Yes... you do too,
admit it." It's hard on him because people see him and don't know what
to say or what to do. He agrees. He keeps checking for his ID badge.
He wants to rush up to his office. However, right now he wants to stick
around for Mac. Lucy says that Katherine had supported Lucy and Kevin
all through the trial. "I just wish she'd been more despicable," because
now Lucy feels guilty for ill-wishing Katherine. "She's not my worst
enemy-- in fact, she's my best. I love to fight with her over money and
social position. I don't think I really hate her, and I don't think she
really hates me. [Think again, Lucy.] I don't want her as a friend,
though, ever."

Mac announces Katherine is conscious, and Lucy tells him to "tell Kathy
something nice you can say I said."
