THE UPDATER'S BIRTHDAY UPDATE, THURSDAY OCT. 3
(52, since you ask. Sorry so late, things came up.)

DR. DORMAN SHOWS HIS CLAWS
In the motel room, Dorman tells Monica how he's missed her while she was
at the conference. She announces that she needed the time to think
things over. "Pierce, it's over." [Aw, Monica. He's like a Whole New
Man, are you sure? And if so, how come you went to the hotel room to
tell him, and how come you kissed him, and, and...?] He asks (sly gleam
in eye) "Alan found out?" Then he goes on: "You're afraid. Darling,
there's no need to be afraid...let me remind you how I made you feel
alive..." She admits, "The chemistry between us is great... [and then,
even in my severely-limited experience I could tell her this was a mistake!
But I suppose after experience with Sean and Ned and other soap-opera
folks, she doesn't know any better!] I hope we can continue to be friends."
[Men do NOT like to hear "let's just be friends"!] Dorman sees red
[besides, he knows The Plan Is Afoot and he must Make Haste anyway] and
returns: "I'm the last young lover you're ever going to have! [Your
Fearless Updater doubts this, BTW]... Don't you give me that crap.
You're a middle-aged woman who doesn't sleep with her husband... tomorrow
you'll be knocking on my door... it's a seller's market, baby, and I've
got what you need ... this affair ends when *I* end it, is that clear?"
[Makes one wonder why he can't get a woman his own age, doesn't it?]
Monica, justifiably stunned, retorts: "You do not own me. You don't
think for me and you don't presume to know what I need. I didn't think
you were that stupid!" Dorman growls, "Nobody walks out on me!" [Just
watch, Pierce, just watch!] and throws his crystal glass against the door
[PC Hotel will put him on the list!] and stalks out.
At the hospital, a groggy Alan is giving Amy last minute
instructions, and tells her his operation is confidential. Like SHE
would gossip, right? Dorman comes in and says that this will be a nice
surprise for Monica, and Alan, dropping off, says she hates surprises.
"DOES she now?" Dorman gloats. Meanwhile, Tom has come in and Amy lets
slip the news about Alan's operation. When Monica comes in and questions
Tom a little closely about Felicia and Kevin, Tom diverts the
conversation by wishing Alan well. Monica then scrubs and joins the
operation, where she brushes Alan's forehead. Dorman gets a "curses,
foiled again!" look in his eye.

QUARTERMANIA:
Edward is pacing in the living room [why were they doing business in NYC
at all, eh?] huffing about "why haven't we heard from Hong Kong?" with
Justus making ineffectual efforts to calm him. They only deal with Ned.
Lila wheels in, and Ned bounds in right behind her, eager to get a jump
start on the public relations before Katherine comes with her so-called
ideas. But first, Lila wants a word with him. He begins to put her off,
and she insists "it can wait!" Edward protests, but Justus drags him off
for a walk in the garden: "I understand your fear of coming off like a wimp."
"EH??"

Ned, now alone with his fearsome grandmother, says "You're going to bust
me, aren't you?" Lila tells him he can't mask his pain by talking of
squash (the game, not the veggie!), etc. "Don't lose your soul in the
process, darling." Ned says it's frightening to think of "who
Grandfather would have been without you" and she is about to spill the
beans on some of Edward's machinations when Katherine (hair up in old,
unflattering, severe, KatyBelle style) comes in with Edward and Justus.
Edward is glad to see her, since it means he escaped Justus'
power-walking. Justus protests, "I wasn't going to force you, I was
going to shame you." Katherine twinkles, "Well, Justus, you fit right in."
"Thank you," he says, "I think."

Lila goes off for coffee, and Katherine, back in KatyBelle appetite as well,
has lunch. She asks if Tracy is joining them. She likes Tracy. Ned says
she would. After lunch, Edward wants to know what she plans to do for
ELQ's image? "Make Sonny Corinthos look like a saint." There are
protests, especially from Edward. "You must be joking." No, she says,
they need to make the best of a bad situation. She points out that Sonny
has never been indicted on any crime and that he is a proven philanthropist.
Edward says not to make Sonny a saint, but "less life-threatening would
be acceptable."

So, then, what should they say about Ned's return as CEO? Ned says there
are no answers and no spin to be put on it. Katherine asks (slightly
cattily) about Lois, and Ned leaves the room. The others catch her up.
She gets a slight gloating look. [I said elsewhere, who could blame her?]
Ned returns and Katherine starts to leave. Edward wants to talk to her
about Deception, and before he does, Ned stops her. He doesn't want her
to gloat. She asks where Tracy is, and he says "Right where I want
her." "Good," she says, "Pulverize her."

Lila tells Edward off and retreats into her book. We see Tracy in a
motel room with (horrors!) no room service. Ned comes to the door.

MAC AND HIS TWO BEST FRIENDS
Before going to the Q's, Katherine was at the Outback, saying hi to Brian
(her main model? Another dangling plot-thread...) Mac comes in and she
says "Remember me?" They peck, and the phone rings. It's Lucy, telling
Mac about Kevin's transfer to the maximum security prison. "He needs
Gail, not isolation." Mac tells Katherine he gets to watch his two best
friends try to kill each other. Katherine comments that Felicia is on a
power trip, "vengeance with a vengeance." Katherine knows something
about power, and "once you start to need it, there's never enough." They
agree to meet later.

Outside, Tom and Felicia are at a table. Maxie had called wanting to
come home. Dara comes up with the good news about Kevin getting
transferred. Tom says Kevin won't get professional care, and Dara says
he won't get to see Lucy, either. Tom says Kevin needs help, and Dara
lists the criminal charges. Felicia wants to be sure the prison is high
security. [She didn't understand the words "maximum security", I suppose.]
Tom once more expresses his dismay about no therapist. After Dara
leaves, Tom says "So things are going our way, why aren't you smiling?"
Felicia: "Don't worry about me, why don't you just continue to worry
about Kevin. Maybe you could even pay him a visit, and analyze all the
repercussions on his psyche." Tom: "I've got a better idea. Why don't
you just relax since he's going out of town anyway and we can just put
this whole nasty thing into proper context for a while." He suggests a
long drive to Texas. Felicia can't possibly do that, she has put her
life on hold. Tom suggests she can choose not to live her life in fear
and anger, that she's paying the price for her anger. He wants to
protect her from herself. She responds, "I'm not the one who's sick,
it's Kevin, he's the one who's sick!" Tom: "Know you have the power to
take back your life." F: "Well, I guess I'm just not ready yet." Tom:
"I love you." F: "Even when you think I'm being stubborn?" T: "Even when
I KNOW you're being stubborn!"

At the county jail, Lucy is talking to Kevin. He tells her she doesn't
understand and that Mac despises him. Mac appears. He tells them he is
recommending that Kevin get psychiatric help. Lucy leaves. Mac asks
Kevin: "What's with you?" K: "Just hanging out." Mac asks if Kevin
wants him to leave, and Kevin says it might be best. Mac, instead,
bullies the guard into letting him into the cell. He is still trying to
figure out why he "despises Kevin." Kevin says it's because of what Mac
heard, what he knows about Kevin that Kevin doesn't even know about
himself. It's pretty horrible. Mac counters: "Is that why you think I
hate you? Because you hate yourself? Don't pin that on me!" Mac can't
talk about what he heard on the island, but he tells Kevin that "I see
men and women do brave things all the time, but they're adults and it's
their job." But Kevin was a kid --- and he survived and grew up to help
people, and if that isn't bravery, Mac doesn't know what is. He mentions
Robin, and Stone. "When we all needed help you were there, and now you
need us, and I'm here for you. Here I am, mate." He looks like he wants
to hug Kevin, but does put a hand on his shoulder. "We are best
friends. That's solid." Kevin is afraid of taking a long hard lood at
himself. As Mac leaves, he says, "next time bring burgers!"

When Lucy returns, Kevin admits he was wrong about Mac. He has a
flashback of himself terrorizing Felicia with the knife. "Oh my GOD, what
did I do to her?"

At the Outback, Mac demonstrates his new people-skills by grabbing Felicia,
recent hostage, and dragging her off to the office.

JASON LEARNS MORE ABOUT EMOTIONS

At LUKE'S, with Babe working in the background(!) Jason comes in and
tells Sonny that he did the business. He passed Sonny's "no drugs in my
territory" onto some other bad guys. Was this how he got the black eye?
[Golf, really, wasn't it?] No, he got into a fight protecting Antoinette
at Jake's. Sonny tells him that beating up every lowlife in town won't
bring Robin back. Jason says, "It's an ache that doesn't go away. I
can't eat, I can't sleep, I'm fighting too much." He tells Sonny he went
to the bridge once, but he won't go back, he's afraid of what he'd do.
Missing Robin is harder than he ever thought.

Lucy barges in. "Where's Luke? ... He's not here? Then why are YOU
here? This is a private place, you know, this is a private club and
YOU're not an owner any more, I am, so what are you doing here, y'know,
it's really been bothering me, what do you do, why do you come here and
just conduct your business here, you get on the phone and conduct your
business here, your awful, disgusting, illegal business for which you're
never going to get caught, are you, and you're not going to get punished
for it, and a wonderful innocent man is going to have to go to prison and
you're not going to have to do it, are you, YOU don't have to go!" She
breaks down and Sonny leads her to a table and sits her down and hugs her
and she cries and cries. Meanwhile, Jason is looking stunned.

Lucy finally regains her composure and Sonny asks if this might have
anything to do with Dr. Collins. She's worried Kevin will go insane.
Jason says "I thought he WAS" and Lucy, fairly calmly, tells him "I think
that when bad things happen to you when you're little, that sometimes
there's just a lot of damage that's done, and sometimes when you're an
adult you do things that you can't understand and you don't quite have
control over." Jason tells her Robin isn't mad at Kevin and Lucy says
that helps. She apologizes to Sonny for ruining his suit, and he says
"hey, it's only clothes". He offers to help, but can't while the
publicity is still raging. Sonny asks if it REALLY bothers her that he
does business there, and she weepily says of course not. She offers to
sell him back his part, since she may need the money and it really is
more his place. He asks for the same price and Lucy wants a 10% bump:
"I may be despondent and depressed but I'm certainly not a pushover."
[MORE SONNY & LUCY SCENES, please!] Sonny says he'll make up the papers,
but when she's feeling better if she doesn't want to do it, it's OK, "I
would never take advantage of a woman in distress". [Karen wasn't a
woman at the time, I guess, she was an underage minor!] "You are a
gentleman", says Lucy, which pleases Sonny: he's behaved around the Q's
and the only one to give him the time of day is Lila, but they fawn over
Jax.

Your Fearless Updater (the Late!) loved this scene, but it was a BEAR to
transcribe! I'm just glad I didn't get the Luke-Lucy one! Jason looked
so puzzled, and like he thought Sonny would tear Lucy apart, and Sonny
took all the insults and got his Italian silk wet as well, and ended up
"a gentleman."
