SEPTEMBER 12:

MARRIAGE AND THE FAMILY BUSINESS:
Ned, talking very very fast, is packing. Gloria figures they need time
to talk, and heads off to the kitchen to make a lasagna for an army.
Lois tells Ned she doesn't think he really wants to move. He denies it:
"Grandfather and Justus think they can run the company better without
me. Let them try." The phone rings and Ned is furious.

Meanwhile, Brenda walks in on Tracy and Jax plotting. She excuses
herself, and Tracy panics. Jax says the ball's already in play, and it's
too late for Ned to do anything about it. Brenda is eavesdropping. She
goes off to see Ned and Lois, but after telling them about the meeting,
she says she won't get all caught up in Jax's business: "I've done that
before and look where it got me." She leaves, and Jax calls to find her.

Lois and Gloria talk. Lois is worried that the family will self-destruct
if they lose ELQ. Gloria doesn't think that would necessarily be a BAD
thing.

Brenda goes to meet Sonny outside Kelly's. She wants him to tell her why
he would never talk about his business. Would he have felt the same if
he ran a legitimate conglomerate? Sonny answers her honestly, it was to
protect her. She says at last she understands. She goes home to talk to
Jax.

Lois tells Ned they should stay till he incapacitates his mother and gets
the company back.

GET OUT OF TOWN, KID (part 1)

Ruby is her usual warm welcoming self as Sonny comes in to Kelly's, but
when Luke comes in, she's all smiles. [How DOES Ruby stay in business?]
She wants to know how things are, and Luke asks her "do you see an iota
of mendacity in these baby blues?" [A Geary line, I do believe, that
"Sonny" picked up on.] To their surprise, Jason comes in, since Robin
wanted to say goodbye in person to Mac. Jason can't believe they'd eat
rare roast beef:"It's still alive." They ask how he is about Robin
leaving, and while he's not happy about it, he's OK with it. He then
accidently gives advice to Luke, which Sonny hears but Luke misses:
talking about the connection he and Robin have, "if it's strong enough,
the distance won't matter, and if it's not, we'll always have what we've
already had." Luke thinks he's refreshingly straighforward, and Sonny
comments that it was the accident. [These two should be together in more
stories, more than just Sonny offering to take care of someone for Luke.
They are FUNNY together!] Jason waits till the commercial break to leave.

Sonny asks what Luke will do when he finds Nikolas. Luke plans to get
him out of town. But what if Lulu needs another transplant? Luke
figures Nik would come back. But he needs to leave now. He'll find Nik
and be spontaneous. Sonny asks how Laura would react. And Stefan? Luke
figures if he doesn't admit to seeing Nik, they can just go back to life
as he knows it. Sonny gets a call ("embarrassing") and Nik was spotted
near the River. Luke heads off to the catacombs.

There, indeed, is Nik. Luke first points a gun at him, then
hail-fellow-well-mets him. "You find the bat cave yet?" A couple of
other good Luke lines: "You Cassadines rewrite history all the time" [so
THAT's the new writing staff!] and "I'm a grownup." [Your Fearless
Updater's jaw dropped on that one!] He strongly suggests Nik leave Port
Charles.

GET OUT OF TOWN, KID (part 2)
Katherine is pacing. I should wear my glasses to watch this, at first I
thought she was Felicia. (Surely Kevin and Ryan could have found a More
Deserving Blonde to terrorize? But I digress.) Mac comes in. He tells
her he nearly had to shoot his best friend, and how was Robin's party?
Robin has left him a note. He's reading it, Katherine having gone upstairs,
when Robin herself comes in. She couldn't leave without saying goodbye
in person. Besides, Mac needs to ship the Stuff [they don't say this,
but we just took Stands-With-a-Book back to school, and she's a sophomore
and left a lot there, and it took a very full van.] They discuss her
good medical news, and how much she'll miss Uncle Mac, etc. He says:
"Fly, Robin, just fly. [Wonder how long the writer's been sitting on that
one!] You spread your wings and soar. And don't let anyone or anything
ever hold you down." They hug, and there's a Mac-and-Robin-hug
retrospective. She's so TINY! Jason comes to fetch Robin and there's
the obligatory Sad Goodbye. When they get to Yale and say goodbye (she
didn't even take the teddybear on the bike) both Robin and Jason cry.
She doesn't think she'd have gotten there without him... he taught her to
move on with her life.

Katherine is telling Mac she'd like to get on with that vacation... maybe
not at an island this time [gee, why not? They had such a "ducky" time
at the last one!] but Paris or somewhere exotic. Mac puts it off... he
wants to be alone. Katherine is understanding and goes upstairs to pack,
just as the writers tease us with another near miss... Stefan is at the
door, wondering what they are doing in the search for Nikolas. And he
and Mac talk, with Katherine returning just after Stefan has gone. She
is really trying to become human. She leaves, and Mac stares at a
picture of himself with Robin.
