From: rika@netcom.com (Melissa Martin) Subject: GH: Update, Wed., 9/11/96 Date: Thu, 12 Sep 1996 04:35:55 GMT GENERAL HOSPITAL UPDATE Wednesday, September 11, 1996 TODAY'S STORYLINES: ------------------ * Too Sad for a Snappy Title * No, She's Not Okay * The Mothers-In-Law * Brenda Buys a Clue - Maybe TOO SAD FOR A SNAPPY TITLE -------------------------- Kevin is asleep in a room at GH while Lucy watches over him. There is a guard out in the hall. Mac stops by briefly, and soon after he leaves, Kevin awakens. He doesn't know where he is, and when he hears he is at GH, he asks why. When Lucy questions him, he remembers being on the island. He also remembers that Mac, Tom, Lucy, and Filly were there - and then he realizes that he must have been the stalker. When Lucy unintentionally confirms this, Kevin is devastated. He asks Lucy what happened on the island. She tells him that he had "a breakdown", that he wasn't responsible for his actions, and that everything will be okay. Kevin doesn't see how it can ever be okay. Lucy assures him that it may take time, but people will understand. Out in the hall, Mac listens. Later, Lucy mentions the Shakespeare citation Kevin left in the painting. He doesn't remember it, and this brings tears to his eyes. He is amazed that he passed himself off as a functioning adult. He is frightened to think that he was seeing patients - even Tom, after Steve's death. Lucy reminds him that he did help Tom. Only part of the time, remarks Kevin - the rest of the time he was trying to ruin Tom's life. Lucy insists that he was sick - it wasn't his fault, and Kevin responds, "Try telling that to that to Felicia." Lucy insists that Felicia already understands. Kevin suggests to Lucy that he still might be sick, but Lucy believes the worst is over. Kevin doesn't think so - he isn't sure who he is anymore, and he doesn't know how he is going to go on after this. (And you'll have to excuse your updater for a moment, because Jon Lindstrom's exquisitely painful reading of this line reduced me to a sniveling mass of tears in search of a tissue. Or two. Or a boxful.) Tom has entered the room unseen and is listening, and he remarks that this isn't the sort of thing one can do alone - perhaps he could help? Kevin can't figure out what to say to Tom - "Thank you" and "I'm sorry" seem inadequate, but Tom says that it is adequate if Kevin means it. "Oh, I mean it," replies Kevin, "but what about that other guy, the one that's been using my name? You might as well call him Ryan." Lucy sharply objects, telling Kevin that he was never Ryan - Ryan would never have left clues or cried out for help. Tom remarks that self-blame isn't productive - it's important to understand the forces that caused things to happen. Lucy tells Kevin that he does have a lot of things to deal with - like his mother - and Kevin interrupts her abruptly, asking, "What things?" Lucy starts to tell him, but Tom interrupts her and asks if she could leave for a couple of minutes. She promises to stop talking, but refuses to leave Kevin. Kevin seconds this - he needs Lucy to stay with him. Kevin realizes that some things from his past must have come out of which he is unaware. He knows that it won't help to have someone else tell him these things before he's ready to know them. Kevin asks Tom if he is willing to treat him. Tom asks if Kevin would be comfortable with that, and Kevin says he thinks so, but he wonders what Felicia thinks. Tom hasn't talked to her about it. Kevin asks how Filly is, and Tom says he's not sure, but it's lucky that Kevin didn't cause her any physical harm. Kevin sardonically runs down the catalog of things he *did* do to Felicia, closing by saying, "Yeah, she should be downright grateful to me." When we rejoin them, Kevin says he wants to sleep - and suggests that it's probably a classic avoidance tactic. Tom thinks sleep is a good idea - for Kevin and for Tom too. Kevin thinks that Lucy should rest too, but she insists that she is staying - if she went home, she would just want to be back with Kevin. Tom convinces her to get something to eat. Before she leaves, Lucy reminds Kevin that she loves him, and that "I was fighting for you when you didn't even know it. And I'm going to fight twice as hard now that you do." And together they'll make everything all right, she assures him. After she leaves, Tom tells him to "have a reality check with Lucy" if he has any doubts. Before Tom can leave, Kevin stops him, asking again if Felicia is really okay. "She will be, in a while," answers Tom. Kevin remarks that, of all the people he has to face, she has to come first. But he's afraid - it might not be over yet, something might set him off, and the whole nightmare will happen again. NO, SHE'S NOT OKAY ------------------ Felicia has another series of flashbacks (like Tuesday's) to the times Ryan terrorized her, and then to her ordeal with Kevin. Tom arrives and she pretends that everything is fine. Tom fills her in on what happened after she left the island, and he gives her a nonspecific account of Kevin's reasons for cracking up, adding that Kevin needs help and understanding. Filly asks if Kevin knows what he did, and Tom says that it is more as though another person did it. Filly thinks he means Ryan, but Tom explains that it is more complicated. Basically, he thinks Kevin did what he did in order to prove that he could be just as bad as Ryan, as a result of the survivor guilt he had, and so that he could take on a share of the blame. Felicia's response is cool, and Tom asks again if she is all right. Filly calls and arranges for her kids to come home. Tom asks her again about how she is - he doesn't believe she is okay; she needs someone to talk to. Filly says that's not her style - she wants to work on getting her life back to normal. Mac drops by. He explains that Kevin is awake but doesn't seem to remember much. Tom wants to go see him, and Mac offers to stay with her. Filly points out that she doesn't need a bodyguard now, but Mac suggests that he stay as a friend and partner, and then Tom heads for the hospital. Mac is worried about Filly too, but she insists that she just wants to get her life back to normal, without the need for vigilance. They discuss Robin's party; Mac says Robin is gone by now. Filly thanks Mac for what he did; Mac insists that she owes a lot to Lucy too - without her, they might not have found where Kevin and Filly were. He explains that Lucy figured out Kevin's clues, and Filly is obviously displeased to hear that Lucy suspected Kevin was the stalker. Filly asks if Lucy told anybody about the clues when she first found them, and Mac (with surprising insight, for Mac) explains that she probably didn't want to believe it. Filly suggests that it's likely that Lucy misled the rest of them to protect Kevin, and Mac agrees that it's possible. Filly asks what happens to Kevin now. Mac hopes that Tom will work with Kevin. Filly's response to this ("Tom, really?") is positively dripping with irony, but Mac doesn't hear it. She asks if Kevin will be in trouble, and Mac explains that he convinced Garcia to hush things up, since no physical harm was done, and since they got Kevin to GH to get treatment. And that means that Mac doesn't have to press charges, but he can be sure Kevin gets the help he needs. Felicia asks why Mac didn't go to see Kevin at the hospital. Mac offers some excuses, but then explains that he wasn't really ready to see Kevin - he's remembering himself with his best friend in the sights of his rifle, and he didn't want to bring that into the room. He tells Felicia how glad he is that she is safe, and to find him if she needs anything. As he leaves, she revisits some- thing he must have told her off-camera, asking about the resem- blance between the doll house and the house in Kevin's painting. Just a coincidence, says Mac - it was the house on Jasmine Island that Kevin was painting. After Mac leaves, Filly angrily sweeps the doll house off the table and onto the floor. THE MOTHERS-IN-LAW ------------------ Ned calls Lois from the ELQ jet - he is on his way home from his trip to New York. Someone is at the door. It's Gloria: Ned sent the limo to get her. Gloria came bearing gifts - peanut butter cookies and a family heirloom christening dress. Lois shows Gloria the pocket watch Edward gave her. Gloria can tell something is wrong, and Lois explains about Jax and Tracy's plot against ELQ. Gloria asks if Ned is as excited to be going to LA as Lois is. She assures Gloria that he is, but then we see Ned on the plane, glumly ripping up sheets of ELQ letterhead. Gloria came up to help Lois pack, and they discuss getting started with it. Gloria tells Lois how proud she and Carmine are of Lois and the things she has done. Lois is grateful for the start her parents gave her. There is a knock at the door - Lois hopes it is her father. But it's Tracy instead. She walks in, looking for Ned, sees Gloria, and says, "Are you the cleaning lady?" Lois introduces the women, and Tracy observes, "It's nice to meet the other side." Lois explains that Gloria came up in the limo. Tracy's response: "Oh, how sweet, he must have realized what a treat it would be for you." Gloria overlooks the implied insult and says she felt ritzy. Ned arrives home, and greets Lois and Gloria while Tracy looks on, impatient. "Okay, okay, if we're all done hugging, Ned, darling, where have you been?" she demands. Ned sidesteps the question. Tracy has brought a gift to replace the one they "threw back in her face" - it is a christening dress. She leaves, and Lois can't see how Ned could be so nice to Tracy after everything that has happened. Ned calls Edward and Justus to come to the gatehouse for a meeting. While awaiting them, Lois remarks that she can't believe Tracy would sabotage ELQ for her own purposes - and why is it so impor- tant for Tracy to be in power? Revenge, explains Ned - revenge on Edward for exiling her. Edward and Justus arrive, and Ned explains what he learned. Jax is mounting a campaign against ELQ, and Ned isn't sure ELQ can survive it. One of Jax's friends is suing Yagi Pharmaceuticals for patent infringement. Jax and friends have bought up suppliers of several ELQ subsidiaries, including Chamberton Brothers. Strikes are imminent at several ELQ plants, and Jax's government friends are causing regulatory problems at other plants. Edward is extremely upset, and remarks that "all of us" need to find a way to stop Jax. Ned bows out, reminding Edward that all he agreed to do was to find out what Jax was up to. Edward and Justus return to the house. Gloria leaves to start packing - unless Ned wants her to hold off. Ned assures Lois that this changes nothing: they will continue with the move as planned. Even if Edward loses ELQ, he is still a very wealthy man. BRENDA BUYS A CLUE - MAYBE -------------------------- Brenda is dressed and trying to get out of the house while Jax tries to start a shaving cream battle. This moves on to another type of activity. Later, on the sofa, Brenda reminisces about their trip to Australia, and despite Jax's attempts to distract her, she insists that she has to get up, asking, "Do you want me to be a mere plaything?" While Jax considers this possibility, Brenda assures him that he doesn't, "trust me." He does, he says, because he knows she will always come back to him. And she knows he will be there waiting for her - and it means a lot to her. She tears herself away from Jax, taking his robe with her and no doubt leaving the members of FGC Jax drooling and wishing for the camera to pan back a little bit. Brenda is dressed and ready to go, and they make plans for a late dinner at a restaurant in New York City (the location is Jax's suggestion. She leaves, telling Jax how much she loves her life. As soon as she's gone, Jax calls Tracy and asks her to come over to discuss the next phase of their plan. Brenda is at the Jacks Cosmetics offices, reviewing the planned photos for the ad campaign. She is unhappy about one of the photos for some reason. She calls Lois to cancel a meeting - she needs to see Jax right away to ask his opinion about the photos. Meanwhile, Jax and Tracy are together Chez Jax. (Wouldn't a mogul like Jax have an OFFICE for these kinds of meetings? Huh?) He knows that Ned was in New York checking up on them, and figures he found out a lot, but it's too late to make any difference. Tracy suggests that she and Jax would make a great team, but he thinks the only business she's interested in is whatever she can take away from Edward. She agrees that this is probably true, but she tells him not to patronize her - she would love to be given "one night" to wipe that smug smile off his face. Jax, though he seems to enjoy watching her come on to him, reminds her that he loves his wife. Tina - I mean, Tracy - asks "What's love got to do with it?" She's offering something far more exotic. But Jax is content with his life, mundane as it may seem. (Yeah, right, mundane, that's the word..... HA!) Tracy is impatient for progress in their plan; Jax assures her that Chamberton Brothers will "start the dominoes falling." As they bicker about this, Brenda arrives home and overhears some of what they say. Enough to figure out that 2+2=4? Stay tuned. ------------------- by Rika, 1/2 of the Wednesday Update Team
