Subject: Sent: 5/27/96 3:45 PM From: Jan Yarnot, jyarnot@netcom.com Ah, the glimmer of a return of some characters who haven't been seen for weeks, months, or in one case, over a year (maybe). Nasty Ned in full spate. Real Brenda peeking out through the mantra-frame. [And kudos galore to Vanessa M. While this scene SHOULD have happened the day after the wedding, at least she finally got a chance to act it. Great stuff.] Signs of a proper GH-style mystery. The characters are still reacting to the heat in what this updater thinks of as uncharacteristic ways, since when Sacramento gets over 100 degrees, my husband and I need all our energy just to LOOK at each other, but then PC *is* a soap town, so I suppose libidos are charged up by excessive heat, cold, earthquakes, floods, words, silences, murders, etc. I rather wish it wasn't beginning to resemble DEBBIE DOES PORT CHARLES, but one can't have everything. Brenda finally getting a glimpse of reality is a good start. TICK...TICK...TICK... AT KELLY'S AJ is helping Keisha move into the amazing changeable Kelly's. (Only four rooms now: Brenda, Carly, Ruby and Keisha. Smaller than the 6 room days of Mike, Brenda, Ruby, Luke, Miguel, and Lily.) Ruby gives Keisha the fakiest smile I've ever seen. Then Lois comes panicking in, has Brenda appeared? No, and she didn't touch the soup Ruby left out for her, either. So Keisha asks: "Is something wrong?" and Ruby answers: "I sure hope not!" (but did she happen to look yesterday? Nope. If Brenda had attempted suicide, she'd be dead by now. Ruby definitely is still my MHGC) Lois comes back for Ruby's key, to get into Brenda's. When she does, Bren is standing by the window. It's really over with Sonny. She's in despair, she's really hit bottom, but she's going to face up to it and live with it. Lois: "What changed?" Brenda: "I did, I'm not kidding myself any more." [The effect of this was ruined by Friday's show, but it was certainly nice to see Real Brenda again!] Brenda starts to say everyone leaves her, but Lois won't let her indulge in that much self-pity. Brenda says: "We're just not meant to be together and I am going to find a way to live with that." Meanwhile, Nasty Ned sees AJ with boxes and voices the hope that AJ is moving out. [As he should have done months ago!] AJ tells him no, he's helping Keisha and Ned raves on about how awful AJ is and how Keisha could do better. AJ asks why Ned has to always pick on him: "The more you tear into me, the lamer you look, and in the end you demean yourself more than you could ever demean me.] Ned just looks smug, despite the fact that AJ is right, and continues when Keisha comes, calling her "Ophelia." Well, Keisha has had it, she's kept quiet long enough. She says: "Ned Ashton, you are the biggest jerk!" She calls him a bully and tells him he doesn't frighten her. Ned dares AJ to tell Keisha the truth. Ruby has to come break up the shouting. AJ continues to carry boxes. The fight has stirred Keisha and AJ up. He starts to tell her about his driving the car, but ends up just saying he liked that she stood up for him. They make love. AJ is remembering Jason (there's guilt in there, too) and Keisha says "Jason's dead, AJ. He said so himself." Lois has talked Brenda into appearing in public. She and Ned ask Brenda to be the godmother to baby Ashton. "I want your influence all over this baby." [She, too, can grow up to be obsessed and delusional!] TICK...TICK...TICK... AT THE HOSPITAL Lucy is beginning to plan for the Nurses' Ball. She snubs Bobbie, who did it first, and bubbles in to see Kevin. She's eager to tell him all about Katherine and the perfume. Kevin, however, is Not Pleased. How could she think he'd approve, he and Mac have been trying for peace between Katherine and Lucy for months! Lucy is definitely puzzled by this. Kevin doesn't remember anything at all about suggesting the trick. Felicia appears with Maxie, Georgie, and Tommy for their DT boosters. Unfortunately, Simone won't be able to give them the shots, as Felicia's insurance is no good. Felicia, puzzled, calls the company and Bobbie takes the children off to the day care center till it gets straightened out. Turns out her insurance is CANCELLED. Tom, Alan, Lucy and Kevin are there at this point, and Alan says they're happy to sort it out if Felicia will just go downstairs and fill out some paperwork. Well, at this point, Kevin flies off the handle. It's "antiquated fossils like you... bureaucratic stuffed shirts"... that are causing the problems with medicine today. [I think that Steve was really supposed to be in this scene.] He throws the papers all over the floor, and Alan tells him they will continue the conversation in his office. Lucy tries to get the Doc off on a walk, and he wants to know why everyone is staring at him. After they leave Simone says something about getting her jaw up off the floor, [but not the papers, I notice!] and Felicia wonders if the world is spinning off its axis. Tom comments: "It doesn't give one much confidence in the old psych department, does it?" Back in his office, Kevin tells Lucy she's overreacting, that nothing is wrong. When she leaves, he looks after her, with, can it be, a definite Ryanesque expression. [The twin study seems to be bringing the Ryan-part of him out. He's going to find it's neither nature nor nurture, but sheer soap-opera Fate!] The kids finally get their shots. Tommy wants to stay at the hospital, but when this doesn't elicit the attention he's after, he runs after the others. At home, Felicia finds her phone service has been discontinued "per your request."
