General Hospital Update
Wednesday 3/27/96

Today's Theme: Lies, Lies, and More Lies

AJ, hungover from the previous night's dringing binge, comes down to
breakfast. Edward, Alan, Monica, Emily are just looking at him not
saying a word. He asks several times "What's going on?", but still
nobody answers him. Eventually, he says tells them that he got drunk
last night and tries to explain what happened. At this point Monica
tells Emily that she can leave, but Edward says that she's part of
the family now and she stays. Edward asks if that's what happened the
night of Jason's accident. Once the initial shock passes, AJ tries to
figure out who told them. He's talking out loud to himself. He figures
that it wasn't Ned because he had too much to lose. AJ keeps going on
until Alan finally says that it doesn't matter how they found out. Now
AJ tries feebly to explain that it was an accident and he's so sorry for
what happened. AJ tries to explain that he couldn't say anything
because Ned was forcing him to keep it a secret. Edward defends Ned's
actions saying that he, unlike AJ, cares what happens to the family.
Edward tells AJ "you are mothing but a misery." Alan tells Edward he
has no right to speak to either of his children like that. Edward asks
Alan which one can't he speak to like that - "the hopeless drunk or the
brain-damaged deliquent." Edward then makes a snide comment to Alan and
Monica about what kind of parents they've been. AJ tells Monica how
sorry he is and how he'd do anything to change what happened that night.
All she can say is that she is sure he is suffering. AJ asks Alan how
come he was able to forgive Ned but not him. Alan says it's because Ned
wasn't drunk. He tells AJ that he had no right to be driving a car and
if Jason had died, he'd be a murderer. Edward doesn't want another
scandal by AJ going to jail. He wants AJ to remain in the house and
witness every day what he had done to Jason. Edward orders to everyone
that the truth is not to leave the room.

Lois knocks on Brenda's door and ask how she would feel about having a
roommate. She comes in and tells Brenda that she and Ned had a major
fight and that he had been keeping a secret from her. On a scale of 1
to 10 it was a 20. She continues to tell Brenda the story about finding
out about the secret and then telling the family. She doesn't, however,
tell Brenda the secret. She also tells her about Ned saying that she
didn't understand the family and how they protect each other. She
wonders about who Ned really is, but she does realize, in retrospect,
that telling the family the secret might not have been the best thing
to do. Lois tells Brenda she needs some time, maybe 2 or 3 years, to
work things out in her head. Brenda replies that she is always welcome
at her place.

Later, Brenda goes to the gatehouse to talk to Ned. Brenda tries to
find out from him what the secret is, but he's not saying. He tells her
he is very mad at Lois. Brenda tries to make Ned understand that Lois
is really hurt and angry that he kept something from her. She reminds
him about the last time he kept a secret from Lois. He says that
eventually she forgave him, but Brenda tells him that he promised her
there would be no more secrets.

Later, Emily comes down to the gatehouse. She is confused about what's
going on between him and Lois. Ned explains why he lied and Emily seems
to understand and asks him why Lois can't understand. He reminds her
that she cannot tell anyone about what is going on. She says not to
worry - Grandfather already made it perfectly clear that she isn't to
say anything. She accepts this because "she's a Quartermaine now."

At the Foundation, Justus is at his desk busily working. Keesha tells
his she needs to talk to him, and after finishing up what he was working
on, he turns his attention toward her. She tells him that she'll stay
and help out until the recall election, but after that she is moving
back to Philadelphia because there's nothing left for her in Port
Charles. Realizing what she just said, she assures Justus that she
wouldn't have been able to make it this far without him. He asks
if moving back to Philadelphia is running away, and she says that it
probably is, but "what's wrong with that." She tells him that every
time she sees Jason it hurts so much that she just wants to cry and be
with Granny Mae, but she's not there either. Justus says he knows
exactly how she feels. Even though Simone still knows who he is, it's
like they are strangers. He tells Keesha he's going to be selfish and
ask her to stay for him. He needs her around and won't be able to
get along without her in Port Charles. She agrees to stay until Ward
House is rebuilt.

AJ arrives at the Foundation. Justus says he's glad he came by because
he had to leave but didn't want to leave Keesha alone. Justus leaves
and AJ remains with Keesha. AJ tells Keesha that he has something to
tell her about Jason. (He is planning to tell her that he was driving
the car.) She asks if Jason is hurt and AJ says no. She tells him that
she doesn't want to hear anything else about Jason. He asks if she is
still planning on going back to Philadelphia. She tells him that Justus
talked her into staying. She tells him how hard it is for her seeing
Jason because their future was destroyed when Jason got in the car with
Ned. AJ decides not to tell her the truth about the accident.

Monica and Alan arrive at the second floor of the hospital. With
everything that's happened, Monica isn't sure that she can make it
through the day. Alan assures her that she will be okay. Monica tells
Alan that it took everything she had not to put her arms around AJ this
morning and tell him everything was going to be okay. Alan tells her
that he really does love AJ but he has to work through his alcholism
alone.

Steve, Tony, and Tom who are in the middle of a debate over the
financial situation at the hospital, come down the hallway. Steve
says that half of the beds are empty which is a problem. He's worried
about the hospital shutting down. Tony and Tom don't think that the
problem is that bad, but Steve is not agreeing. Dr. Dorman, who has
been listening in on the conversation, comments that finally GH is
coming into the 90's. He says that in this era, cutbacks are the norm
and reducing the staff has to be done. Tony volunteers Dr. Dorman to be
the first one to voluntarily resign. Monica, however, agrees that when
times get tough you do what you have to to survive. Tony asks Alan for
his opinion, and he agrees with them in that it may be a bit too soon to
take such measures. Tom and Tony leave and Steve goes to check on "one
of the few remaining patients in the hospital." Dr. Dorman thanks
Monica for supporting him.

Later at the Nurse's Station, Amy tells Alan that a package arrived for
Monica from her "secret admirer." Alan asks Amy how she knew that and
she feebly tries to make up some explanation about the envelope falling
off the package and the card coming out of the envelope. Alan takes the
gift and tells her he will deliver it to Monica.

At the Brownstone, Bobbie tells Felicia that their trip to Opryland got
postponed. Felicia tells her she's sorry they didn't get to go, but
Bobbie says it was just a fantasy spur-of-the-moment trip that probably
wasn't meant to happen. On the subject of fantasies, Felicia tells
Bobbie all of the places she and Tom have gone on their rooftop fantasy
dates. Bobbie is surprised to find out about this side of Tom. The
subject changes to private investigation work, and Bobbie asks
Felica questions about client confidentiality. Felicia tells her that
unless it becomes a police matter, if the client requests
confidentiality, they get it.

Felicia leaves and Bobbie makes a phone call to a private detective and
sets up a meeting. Meanwhile, at the hospital, Tony tells Tom that he
and Bobbie weren't able to get away on their vacation. Tom tells Tony
that they can go anywhere they want to if they use their imaginations.
Tom begins to expound the wonders of fantasy dates, but realizing how it
must sound, stops and goes off to see a patient. Monica arrives and
asks Tony how they should handle Jason. Tony tells her to accept him
for who he is today.
