From: jyarnot@netcom.com (Jan Yarnot) Subject: GH: Update Thursday March 21 Date: Tue, 26 Mar 1996 00:54:42 GMT Thursday, March 21, 1996 RUST ON KNIGHTLY NEDLY'S SHINING ARMOR Ned and Lois are at the Big House reading dual copies of the paper. Lois sees that Justus is being praised as a hero, and Ned sees the low polls. AJ comes in just as Ned says Justus needs a new PR campaign, and asks for money for it. Nasty Nedly says he doesn't think Justus should have a drunk working for him in an official capacity. Lois looks stunned. Ned continues to berate AJ while he writes a check from the book conveniently kept in the desk at the Q's. AJ says "What can I say, Ned? Gosh, you're a prince." Ned ripostes with : "And you're a worthless excuse for a human being." Lois attempts to point out that if Justus doesn't have a problem with AJ's alcoholism, it is none of Ned's business. [She continually underestimates his need to control everything.] Lois leaves. Ned and AJ, forgetting that the Quartermaine den is Eavesdropper Central, carry on. And on. "The Jason we loved is gone, and who do we have left? You, a sniveling whining excuse for a human being, and you are MINE. Mine to punish however I want, whenever I want." [Doc Kevin would have a field day with this man. Was he deprived of GI Joe as a child?] "You better be careful, cousin, no one owns me!" "Like Hell I don't!" AJ threatens to tell Lois. "She has no idea what a sick, sadistic monster she married, does she? . . . How would those gorgeous eyes look on you then, Ned?" Ned calls the bluff, telling AJ to go ahead, and also tell Keesha, and Garcia, and break Monica's heart, etc. AJ goes to the Gatehouse to tell Lois, goodhearted Lois, who interrupts him to tell him she is on his side and angry with Ned and who is so shiningly good his resolve disappears. They hug and Ned comes in, making one last crack. AJ leaves and has six straight-up somethings (vodka? gin?) which is, it seems "the usual." Lois is steamed at Nedly but they at least talk about it. BOBBIE HAS A BAD, BAD DAY Bobbie is holding baby James when Tony comes in and asks her if she's called Social Services. She claims she has, though she might be lying. Just as she says they could handle another child so easily, the doorbell rings and it's Mrs. Stringfield from Social Services. Bobbie hates to give James up [in reality, I kept thinking that James is HIV+, right? So his life expectancy isn't too good? Surely SS would know better than to place him with someone who has already lost a child, for that person's sake.] She will cancel Betty [what about Lucas, eh?] for the will reading. More on the will reading later, but it didn't go well for Bobbie. Steve, who is looking MUCH better, and Tony talk at the hospital about Bobbie and her dreams and her mental state. Tony waits up for Bobbie that night, as she's volunteered for the night shift to help pass the time, and wants her to come to bed, but she's going to stay up a while. She has that dream again. DAMIAN GETS THE LAST WORD Mac, Katherine, Luke, Laura and Lucky are at the lawyer's office. They say Damian had no friends, so why are they invited to the will reading? Lucky especially doesn't understand why he is there. (Hey, it's a day off school, right?) Luke sees a theme: "Men who hated Damian and women who hated him too." [Stick to your day job, Luke, I don't think writing powerful prose is your true vocation.] Katherine thinks it's creepy, but she just bets Lucy is also involved. Sure enough, Lucy and Kevin are discussing the summons to the will-reading. Lucy thinks it's creepy and doesn't want to go (Lucy the incurably curious? I was surprised!)but Kevin wants to know what's going on. Lucy suggests that they leave the country. The phone rings and it's Steve, wanting Kevin's answer on the twin study. Lucy doesn't like it, it reminds her too much of, well... Kevin tells her "Ryan's dead, Lucy. Taking part in a twin study won't bring him back." Lucy thinks about the will-reading again, and they go. She is wearing a terrific dress for a will-reading, black with lots of bows. She looks around the room and thinks maybe everyone there is going to get money in atonement. As she's being talked out of this by Luke, the lawyer, Eugene Sandoval, comes in. Everyone is there, except for, ah, yes, Garcia, who is just going to stand in this corner over there so they won't even know he's there, and don't be nervous just because you're all suspects. The lawyer starts by announcing that Jennifer is not there, but her bequest is a portrait of their mother, as Damian figured if dear old dad had meant for her and BillyBob to have any money, he'd have left her some. Mr. Sandoval then plays a video, with Damian saying he hopes everyone likes their gifts. The lawyer then hands out packages. Katherine, trying not to look greedy, asks, "is there anything for me?" When told she'll be last, she gets a bit huffy. They all look at their packages like there might be bombs in them, but Kevin breaks the ice by opening his. The note says "Dear Norma, this is you, hope it's not too small" The bequest is a red and black teddy. Mac figures Eve is next. Note: "you're always clueless, so here's a hint. Consider the glass a mirror." It's a broken magnifying glass. Mac knows he's been made a fool of, and says "Damian is a lot funnier dead than he ever was alive." Laura is next, curious as to what's in the package. It's a Geiger counter. "For beachcombing when your husband's luck runs out, as it most certainly will." Luke explains this makes sense with the toxic waste disposal plant. Maybe to Luke it makes sense, Laura and Bobbie and I were still puzzled. Bobbie's note says "for those cold lonely wet nights when bedfellows become strangers." It's a dead rat. Bobbie is horrified. I thought it was really appropriate. Luke's note says "We owe you" and it's a picture of Frank. (To match the picture Jennifer got, I guess.) Luke breaks it over his knee. Lucy can't bear it, and opens hers. "Contact me any time." It's a crystal ball. Lucy wanted more. She hisses to Kevin "I was expecting something else." "Such as?" "MORE. MUCH more!" Meanwhile, Lucky is looking at his note: "This bequest is a late one, and it officially erases your debt of 700 dollars." Laura tears up the note, and they gather around the VCR once more. We watch Katherine's face (and Kevin and Lucy behind her) as Damian says he'd promised to always take care of Katherine, and he was leaving her everything, all the real estate, the stocks, bonds, and cash. Kevin is interested, Lucy disgusted. Katherine is totally stunned. She doesn't believe it. "He really DID love me." Mac looks disappointed. Back with Kevin and Lucy. She is fuming. She thought Damian was her soulmate, or at least that he thought he was. Kevin points out he'd have said anything to get into her pants, and Lucy keeps raving about how she should have gotten some of the money, not Kathy. "If Damian Smith weren't dead I would kill him myself with my bare hands!" As she shows no signs of running down any time soon, Kevin gives up and settles on the couch with a magazine. -- Jan Yarnot, net.granny, RABbabe, Proud Mom to Stands-With-a-Book, the Booklist Boy, the IRS Guy, the Tycoon, and Sunbunny.
