From: jyarnot@netcom.com (Jan Yarnot) Subject: GH: Update Thursday January 18, MaryMae remembered. Date: Wed, 24 Jan 1996 00:26:49 GMT Let's get the icky stories out of the way first... GOING UP THE RIVER At Dorman's cabin are Mac, Felicia, Katherine and Napoli, a PI. Katherine gets a weird look on her face at the doorway. Is she remembering? No, she just feels weirdness. And she's going nowhere near the kitchen (a definite first!!) Felicia sees the two drops of blood and thinks it's funny. Snotty Katherine makes a reappearance and doesn't like F's approach. Of course, PodMac agrees with his ladylove, cut KatyBlechh some slack. He refers to Felicia's irritating, condescending tone. Mac is heading for my MHGC list. Napoli is great, looking for clues and laughing at the scenario the cops have. Katherine goes outside. Where is a polar bear when you need one? Rats, she comes back. PodMac hugs her. Felicia comes in and then leaves to canvas the neighbors. Katherine actually thinks her. Napoli points out that the evidence is too specific, and he's going up the lake. Katherine gets hysterical "He's going up the lake and I'm going up the river!" THE BURNING TRIANGLE Brenda goes to see Mike. She tells him about burning the dress and it's obvious Mike thinks it's funny and that he doesn't believe it was an accident. Brenda tells him the truth about being in the room. He still thinks it's funny. Brenda says Lily will play up the "poor-me" thing (she has a nerve, does Lily, feeling sad about this!) Mike points out that Brenda is being a brat. But: "Sonny LOVES me. Not Lily. He loves ME." [Actually, Brenda, this updater got the feeling that Sonny is beginning to fall a bit for Lily. The sympathy over the dress and Brenda lying definitely took him aback!] Mike says yes, but he's marrying Lily! Sonny and Lily are at Ruby's. Lily says Brenda is sure thorough, and Ruby (now) stands up for Brenda and says it was an accident. Lily [Hooray!] yells at Ruby, who looks shocked that anyone would pick on her. She leaves. Lily asks Sonny how he could possibly ever have loved Brenda, when she was capable of this. He responds he didn't know Brenda that well. He rescues a scrap of the dress, which she can attach to whatever she does wear. "Whatever you wear, even jeans... the prescence of your mother will be with us, as mine will. And nobody can take that away from us. Not Brenda. Not anyone." And now for the main story: GET ON WITH DOING TODAY'S WORK At the Quartermaine's, Lois comes bursting in, all exclamation points!! "I wasn't even scared!!" Ned, however, looks somber... he has bad news for her. Mary Mae has died. Lois cries. Edward comes blustering in: "Is there ANY situation you can't get the better of?" They tell him about Mary Mae and he looks like he's taken a body blow [I love John Ingle, not to denigrate David Lewis in the least.] "I did love her, you know?" At Ward House, Justus is telling Luke, Keesha, and Simone about finding Mary Mae dead. Keesha points out "GrannyMae was never alone, there were always angels over her." Lucky comes racing in, hoping he's heard wrong. No, no mistake. The others leave and Lucky and Luke talk. Luke wants her singing in his club and rocking his baby. Lucky asks "When does it stop, man?" [Well, Lucky, you're in a soap opera!] Luke tells him "the dying never stops." Lucky wants to know what will happen with the Ward house and the children. Luke will be speaking at the funeral. He muses: "She was a true friend of our family. Y'know what I'm going to remember most about the woman who used to rock that chair? Loss and violent opposition never dragged her down, never stopped her from doing her work. She never hid behind pain. Or fear. She stood up to ignorance with dignity. And she made changes in our world. 'Today's work' is what she used to call it. 'Get on with doing today's work.' Remember that, Lucky. Remember her. She was --- extraordinary." Later, Lois, at Ward House, asks what will happen to it. Simone says it will continue, or the children will go into foster/alternative care. AJ comes in. He's always welcome, Justus says. AJ admired MaryMae. She was always straight with him and she was always funny. He will be a pallbearer. He takes the program to the printshop, and Keesha, who needs a break, goes with him. [Whoops!] A kid runs in looking for Mary Mae. Justus muses "I want her too. I want her too." Edward puts on a CD of MaryMae singing and reminisces about 51 years ago. *sniff*! -- Jan Yarnot, net.granny, RABbabe, Proud Mom to Stands-With-a-Book, the Booklist Boy, the IRS Guy, the Tycoon, and Sunbunny.
