From: jyarnot@netcom.com (Jan Yarnot) Subject: GH: Update Thursday October 26 Date: Sat, 28 Oct 1995 21:18:28 GMT I WANT MY MOMMY Amber Tamblyn really truly shone in today's episode! Emily, Lucky and Raoul are in the Quartermaine den, and Raoul has mastered the "give me your paw" trick, but that's all he knows. Lucky demonstrates a backward somersault to encourage the dog to roll over, and Raoul couldn't be more bored, but Emily laughs. She misses her Mom, they used to laugh all the time. She asks Lucky if his parents ever had affairs, and he says no, they find other things to fight about. Emily wonders what to tell the social worker. Monica overhears her wondering what it would be like to be a ward of the court. "Do they still have orphanages?" She would miss Raoul. And Lucky. Lucky starts off home and Monica smiles in, inviting him to dinner. It's salmon. No, he's the man of the house and is needed at home. He tells Emily that Raoul likes it when she laughs. He leaves, with Monica and Emily looking at each other. After the commercial break, Emily tells Monica it was nice of her to invite Lucky to dinner, and she starts to leave as Alan comes in and insists that she sit down and discuss the adoption. Monica has already explained the procedure and Alan reassures Emily that it will be easy. Monica says "If this is all happening too fast for you, Emily, please let us know." Emily wants to know what kinds of questions will the social worker ask, and Alan lists some: do you have your own room, do you like school, are you happy here, how do you feel about us, do you want the adoption. Monica asks: "How DO you feel, Emily? Honestly?" and Alan assures her: "you can talk to us." And at this point if they had let silence reign for more than 2 seconds, they might have actually managed a conversation, but of course, Monica had to push and Alan had to needle Monica, and soon enough they are in another Quartermaine fight. "It was NOT an affair!" "That's splitting hairs!" Emily finally cracks. "DONT! STOP IT! Now you're fighting over me! I don't understand this family! You blame each other for everything! You have affairs with each other's friends! Sometimes even your own inlaws! You bribe and cheat people to get your own way, and if that doesn't work, then you bully them to death! I *HATE* IT!" Edward comes in and says he's the only person allowed to talk like that. [!] This gives Emily slight pause, but HER backbone is quite intact, thank you very much, and she turns on him: "That's about as unfair as everything else around here!" [I think Emily's been into the Art Chick's supply of exclamation points, yes?] Edward huffs: "See here, young woman!" Emily explains: "You know, you're not the only one who can get mad & sad!! Other people have a right, too!" Lila has come in during this, and says: "You tell him, Emily!" Edward glares: "Now don't you encourage this, Lila!" Lila says: "If you are demanding to be treated with respect, Edward, I suggest that you refrain from using that particularly haughty tone of voice with the poor child." Alan jumps in here: "Mother! Father! PLEASE! Emily is trying to tell us why she may not want to be an official part of this family and I damn well think we better listen." AJ comes in at this point and helpfully says she should jump on that offer, kiddo, and Alan reacts, and there's another grand Quartermaine fight going, and once more Emily snaps. "STOP IT!! JUST ... STOP IT!! LISTEN TO YOURSELVES!! HOW CAN ANYBODY WANT TO BE A PART OF THIS FAMILY?" She runs off. She's just won Edward's heart. "Well. She's beginning to get the hang of it, isn't she?" Monica exclaims: "EDWARD!" The Qs wonder what to do now. Lila wants to change Emily's mind. Monica asks: "How? We are what we are." and Edward agrees, raising his glass: "And damn proud of it." Lila turns on him [Real proud to have this lady as my FGC today!] "Oh, don't be obtuse, Edward!" Edward claims that Emily is too young to know her own mind anyway, but Alan says she's more mature than any of them [not too hard, that!] Monica: "She thinks we're all liars, bullies, and adulterers." Edward, thinking what's wrong with that?, laughs and says "Heheheheh. that about sums it up." Alan asks Monica: "What was that about affairs with inlaws?" Monica: "Uhhhh ---throwing the whole kitchen sink at us." AJ is deputized to go to Emily. Emily is glad it's AJ. "Face it AJ, I'm a misfit." AJ assures her she'd be a perfect little sister, and so Emily says now she feels ungrateful. After all, the family "can't help being the way you are." He says she could be an inspiration and she says "I don't want to be an inspiration, I just want to be a little girl." "I want my mother." AJ leaves and reports to Alan and Monica, who wonder where they went wrong. Emily calls Lucky. She wants some information on how to find her aunt. Lucky tells her to sit tight till tomorrow, let him find out some things, and then they will go look. Emily says she doesn't feel so desperate any more. I WANT MY WIFE Emily is a lot saner than Tom, who is beginning to sound more and more "off." Steve and Audrey are wondering if they should go along to court to offer moral support to Tom during the divorce. "It's Tom's loss", Doc Steve pontificates. Tom stops by, refusing the offer, and he has plans for dinner. After he's left, Steve remarks: "He's completely our of touch with reality on this one." At court, Tom is predictably nasty. After the divorce is done, he follows Simone and Justus to the Outback where he glares at them till Justus is about to attack. Simone advises ignoring Tom, he can't stand that. Mac defuses their table while Felicia lures Tom off to dinner. Simone can't follow her own advice and ignore him. I WANT TO LIVE Stone is much happier without the steroids, in fact he's nearly punchy. Robin has brought scissors preparing for the surgery tomorrow, which Tony has set up with their "top resident" Dr. Dornan. [Razz points out this is the doctor they were so eager to get from New York: I say they should ship Stone off to Chicago and let Dr. Greene handle him!] Sonny finds out why the surgery is necessary. Then Stone and Robin cut his hair with "Changes" playing in the background. He's still punchy when it's over, and is that a song about "Miracles" in the background? Nice haircut. At the desk Tony and Dr. Dorman are discussing the case as Sonny comes in. Dr. Dorkman refuses to do the surgery. "Why bother?" "We both know it's probably lymphoma." "This is such a waste." Tony says he'll do the operation himself [Wow, that's a shocker!] and that Dr. Dorkman is fired. Dorky will take it up with Doc Steve. [Yeah, right, and Doc Steve will go against the last 30 years and agree with him, too. Ha.] Sonny thanks Tony. Later, in Stone's room, Sonny says "You find out who has guts and heart and who don't." Robin asks who does, and Sonny credits "Good old Dr. Tony Jones." I WANT A LIFE Laura has MaryMae over at the house. Lucky comes in and gets told not to spoil his supper, it's potroast. He tells her he gave up salmon at the Quartermaines. MM offers Laura the job with the Charles Street Foundation. Laura is trying to figure out how to juggle it with school and kids, and she'll need to talk about it with Luke [To see if he'll "let" her?] Lucky is eavesdropping and looks worried about Laura getting a life of her own. He talks to Mary Mae when Laura's out of the room. Mary Mae sees "manhood peeking through the gates of adolescence." -- Jan Yarnot, net.granny, RABbabe, Proud Mom to Stands-With-a-Book, the Booklist Boy, the IRS Guy, the Tycoon, and Sunbunny.
